Hotel in Pérouges
Hostellerie du Vieux Pérouges is located 1.2 mi from Meximieux and 3.1 mi from Etangs de la Dombes. It offers an on-site tea room and restaurant, which serves a range of local specialties. Spending the night in a medieval city is quite remarkable for an American! My room, "Aimable," was located in an ancient building up a tower staircase and made to look "royal" in a charming way with centuries-old furniture and a (comfortable) canopy bed with rounded pillows. The openable windows were diamond-shaped, wrought-iron panes with hand-blown glass. The in-suite, marble-walled bathroom was immaculate with two sinks and a tub/shower. Dinner was delicious and served by waitresses in maid's costumes from the past. Breakfast included coffee, croissants, bread, and pieces of galette, the town's famous cookie-like confection. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Pérouges is a fascinating village with a museum, souvenir shop, other restaurants, and an active art scene. Bill and Hillary Clinton visited the town and hostelry in 1996. Thoroughly delightful, a must see and stay!

We are mesmerized by the atmosphere of the hotel and the location. We arrived middle of the night but the owner welcomed us with a big smile he made us food because we where very hungry. he give us our hotel room key and the room was clean and comfortable. Big bonus on any hotel stay he provide a safe parking spot right at the property. for us was a big big help and appreciate it very much because we are traveling Europe and parking always hard to find this was so convenient we can just walk up to our room from out car. The hotel was a surprise destination little outside of Lyon we end up here because we couldn't find hotel in Lyon but what a beautiful surprise we stayed longer than we booked at first because we where mesmerized by the place . the little medieval town is walking distance from the hotel restaurants and coffee shops welcomed. We had to stay to discover the area, the town is still feels like you are back in the XIV century, absolutely beautiful for me was a peaceful paradise. I enjoyed the most this destination in our Europe trip. I felt like I am back in the middle ages and I fully able to enjoy just the magical part of it. What a place!!! I recommend to take your time to enjoy peace in this little paradise.
