Located just 1.2 mi from Volvic in the Auvergne Volcano Region, Hotel La Chatellenie offers free Wi-Fi access. This was a perfect stop over for our family on a road trip. The host was friendly. The room was simple but clean. Amazing views. The dinner was delicious and filling. Breakfast was typical of the region but generous portions. It sits right below the Turnoël castle and there are many walking trails.
Located on the motorway exit for Volvic from Riom, 15 minutes from Clermont-Ferrand, Le Moulin des Gardelles is a family-run Logis de France hotel. Staff were very friendly & helpful. The evening meal was well cooked and presented. Location is ideal for a stopover on the way to the south and access to the autoroute is very close.
Very limited facilities for restauration. Not much going on in the village. Needed to drive 10 miles to Châtel Guyon for diner. Also we struggle for getting breakfast in the morning. We Managed to get a coffee in the only local bar but we needed to buy our croissants in an nearby local grocery store...
Volvic is the famous source of spring water but the reason for staying was as a stop off on journey home. The town itself has little to recommend it, but the Hotel du Commerce, though unprepossessing from the outside was our favourite stay out of many famous cities.
There are a number of walks which start at the source of Volvic water which is about a 20 minutes walk from the hotel. Parking in Volvic park can be awkward during the week but is free and unlimited at weekends. The Volvic water source exhibition is quite interesting for those who like to drink bottled water.
