Just 6 miles from the historic city of Carlisle, The Crown Hotel is set in the picturesque village of Wetheral. It features leisure facilities that include a 12-yard pool and squash courts. Great friendly reception welcome, staff right down to the gardener lovely , Jean at breakfast lovely , would have liked gluten free option bread as the toast offered was lovely and I stupidly ate it and didn’t feel well , my fault !hotel very clean village beautiful , very comfy beds , really enjoyed it and will be back , didn’t have dinner as got a takeaway delivered from local Indian , but would and will eat in restaurant next time all in loved it , we stayed here as we flew into Newcastle airport so decided to stay somewhere to half the journey back home
Just 10 minutes’ walk from Carlisle city center with award-winning gardens, Cumbria Park Hotel is located in Carlisle’s quiet north suburbs. Free WiFi and free secure parking are available. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel very central. Great value.
The Crown and Miter Hotel is located in the center of Carlisle city center, with shops and local historic attraction such as Carlisle Cathedral and Castle just 2 minutes' walk from the hotel. Great staff - very warm & welcoming
Ideally located in the historic capital of Cumbria, the ibis Carlisle is just 215 yards from Carlisle Citadel Train Station. Close proximity to train station and historic area
Nestled amid acres of private woodland and glorious gardens, this magnificent Grade II listed castle is located on the northern edge of the Lake District, surrounded by a golf club. Great spot, looks like it's used primarily for weddings on weekends. Mostly business travelers during the week, but if you are looking for a spot to stop on the way from scotland to england and have a few kids, you could do a lot worse.
Only 1 mile from Carlisle city center, the Milton Hilltop Hotel is located in a peaceful location with easy access to the M6 and A69. It features an on-site restaurant and a bar. Hospitality was warm and welcoming

Lovely castle! As we were resting after our trip to England from the USA we were not able to give this town justice! There is so much to see and it is a great walking town! A real highlight was Evening Matins at the Cathedral.. we were welcomed to participate in the service and the Choir was just beautiful. The Spanish restaurant ‘Lorca’ was excellent. The food magnificent. The staff so helpful and kind. And with all that ... a great value.
Carlisle is a compact city with great transport links. Lots of great places to eat and drink. Loads of history, a great place to learn more is Tullie House Museum. Ate at Alexandros one evening, beautiful Greek restaurant with attentive staff and delightful food. There are lovely parks and green spaces in the city another of my favourite places is Carlisle Castle.
Carlisle needs to improve inner city traffic problems. Walking is the only way to see the historic areas. The Tullie House and Museum is the best we have seen, especially the Roman exhibit. Discovered Pizza Express, and despite its name, this is not just another pizza place. Menu selection is varied and includes Italian dishes such as lasagne and DOCG wines you would not expect to find. Carlisle was our jumping off point for exploring Hadrians Wall.
There's not a lot to do in Carlisle. The town center was cool, but not extensive in its attractions. The Hadrian's Wall tour was a draw for us, but one night was plenty of time to see the town center and do the tour.
A great location to stay in Carlisle to access Lake Districts to avoid crowds in peak season. It just take less than an hour to arrive Keswick. Carlisle is bit quiet. Almost all shops closed after 6pm except for restaurants. Weather also a mix with sun and rain in the morning and afternoon time during my stay in late July.
A Castle is always a good start even if it isn't the most attractive. Plenty of choice for eating out and pleasant shopping area. Traffic is pretty light and plenty of short term parking. I was there to play golf (Silloth on Solway which is a must for golfers) and I can also recommend Carlisle GC. Powfoot and Southerness are easily reached. There are other local courses but I haven't played them.
Clean, excellent location (around the corner from Tulley Museum and Carlisle Castle), good kitchen facilities, the owner Jono is great. This is the type of hostel you always hope to find. It’s NOT a clinical feeling chain hostel. It’s NOT a loud party hostel. It IS a hostel where you feel welcomed, a haven for travellers, where you can tell all the little details have been thought out, and you quickly feel like you belong.
Parking right at the back of the hotel. Very handy. Located on the liveliest street in Carlisle for nightlife. Excellent double glazing meant little noise from outside. Bed was very comfortable. Decent sized en-suite with a huge shower cubicle. Big enough for three !! Excellent price for 2 night stay. Well priced self-service breakfast.
Abby Court house hotel is a beautiful place to stay at Carlisle, although the room is a bit tiny but it is comfortable and clean and the hotel is overall cosy. The staff are so kind and helpful, the restaurant is nice and modern and breakfast is just fantastic.
The aparthotel is based right in the centre of Carlisle, easy walking distance from the train station. We were welcomed by friendly helpful staff on the desk. The apartment was well set up, clean and packed with useful bits.
Great location in the centre of Carlisle, with the cathedral just around the corner, and everything else a short walk away including train station, Tullie House Museum, and Carlisle Castle.
This is a class hotel, great rooms, restaurant for breakfast and dinner very nice. Very nice swimming pool and work out room. The little town is the place you wish to live.
Came down to carlisle and booked in here staff were welcoming rooms clean and fresh fab hotel would recomend to anyone
Love this hotel stay every time I come up to Carlisle either with family or by myself always feel safe here
It was a nice old hotel in central part of town. Good value. Close to resteraunts and shopping.
good base and price ideal if you aren't planning to stay in Hotel much
Good city hotel. Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Lovely lounge.
When we first arrived and went to the room no.17 the passage on the way was very stuffy and without fresh air,on entering the room it was worse,so stuffy that I had to open the window, the door and the nearby fire escape but it did not do much good as there was no breeze that day.Unfortunately it was too late to look else where as my wife had to get ready to go to a concert nearby.Beds very uncomfortable. My wife decided at about 2am.to sleep on the floor on top of the duvet. The breakfast was an experience I hope is never repeated. We both ordered and was looking forward to the full cooked. When it came I thought that it was a starter,as it was not enough for a child. It was all served luke warm.1 slice of bacon about 4ins.long,1 tasteless sausage,a cold over cooked fried egg, about 1 tablespoon of beans,3 mushrooms approx.15mm diameter, half a warmed up tomato, 3 pieces of fried potatoes that would totally fit in an eggcup, toast that was not "toasted".my wife asked for scrambled egg with hers, she could not figure out how it had been cooked as it was not scrambled, she suspects "the"egg had been put in a cup, stirred a bit, placed in a microwave then served without scrambling. In the twin room there was complimentary tea and coffee and "one"chocolate drink.May I add that all the staff (with the exception of the cook who we did not see )were very pleasant and professional throughout,so much so that it would of been unfair to put our complaint to them.
Kari was an excellent host and the large, historic home (and former girls school) was comfortable and spacious. Kari served a delicious full English breakfast or other options, as desired. We walked about 5 minutes into the town center to find a variety of restaurant options. As we were just stopping in Carlisle enroute from Scotland to London, the guest house was conveniently located just off of M6. We parked off the street in a small driveway in front of the house...very convenient.
I absolutely loved my stay at Warwick castle. The hosts went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and at home with their warm welcome and interesting conversations. The location of the hall was stunning as were the views from the room. Breakfast was great too. I will return for sure one day.
Very pleased with Truck stop, ideal location and as we just needed somewhere to stop for the night to break a journey to Scotland. Staff and Truckers friendly, facilities good, quiet night, beer before bedtime. Many thanks......ps our dog enjoyed her stay too.
The property is near the downtown area, and convenient for access to major highways. It's been attractively upgraded, but retains the charm of the original building.
The breakfast was fabulous. The location was so close to the town centre. The staff was so polite. I would recommend recommend it.
Dinner and breakfast were delicious. Hosts were very friendly and welcoming. Room was excellent.
All around great experience from the meals to the accommodations
Lovely room, very comfy bed and an amazing breakfast.
