Oldy villagey feel about the place which I love. Interesting little shops. Had lunch in the White Bear which was lovely. Red Lion is a lovely old pub...we were there most of the evening before our family wedding...service was good.
This was an overnight stop for us as we travelled to Carlisle. We arrived mid-afternoon and went for quite a long walk walk around the neat and tidy village centre. Being late on Saturday afternoon most of the shops were closed. My wife found Yasmine boutique in Market Place open and enjoyed the experience very much. We chose to eat in the Red Lion and were delighted with our choice. Good food, well presented, friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere made for a very pleasant evening. Sunday morning breakfast was cooked to order, plentiful and very tasty.
The room was nothing like any of the rooms on the website. Avoid Room 15 as there was cobwebs everywhere, poor furniture , uncomfortable bed and music till midnight followed by staff having a drink after work who kept me awake till after 1am !! Lights did not work. I felt that £70 for a room is robbery . Breakfast was amateurish so avoid this hostel.
Epworth is a fairly small village so easy to get around. The Queens head is a lovely pub with well kept real ale. We ate at the Curry Leaf restaurant which was outstanding. There are plenty of places to eat out and lots of takeaway outlets. The Rectory is an interesting place to visit.
