Located in Gorebridge in the Lothian region, The Arches, Borthwick Mains Farm, features a balcony. Lovely barn in a very quite location. The place was very cosy and spacious. Both Jude and Phil were very accommodating, they gave us tips on restaurants and local amenities. The drive to this location via the A roads is mesmerising, the views are stunning! If you live in the city and want to be in the right spot this location is great as your 30 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh. Loads of country parks nearby to keep you fit!
Borthwick Castle View is located in North Middleton. The accommodation is 13 miles from Edinburgh, and guests benefit from private parking available on site and free WiFi. Enjoyed the quiet location yet proximity to edinburgh the annex is well thought out and cosy with the log burner on enjoyable relaxing stay
On acres of wooded parkland, this fascinating 13th-century fortress is on the banks of the River Esk. The property was excellent. Wonderful castle atmosphere. The only downfall, no lift. We had a four poster bed room on the forth floor which was lovely but lots of stairs...
The Arches was a comfortable place to stay. The hosts, Jude and Phil, were friendly, helpful and well informed about local amenities and sites of interest. Check out the Ormskirk Yew-truly amazing. And the great cafe and shop in Humbie. The Italian eatery in Gorebridge is authentic and the food and staff are so good-we went twice (119). Direlton is a sedate village and nearby Yellowcraig has a gorgeous beach and nature reserve.
The cabins are extremely dissertations inside and poorly cleaned much like the shower and toilets which felt very unstable. Our cabin did not have outside seating or fencing like the pictures suggest, we were also forced to walk 40 mins to the nearest pub as their was no bbq to cook the food we had bought. My partner and i had booked two nights however we left after the first, i have since tried to contact the owners for a refund on our second night however they have not replied. They have been extremely unhelpful throughout our experience and did not reply to texts or calls when we were trying to find the site. Would not recommend
The cabin and toilets could have been cleaner. We had cobwebs inside our cabin. Toilets were smelly, not clean and there were no bins in the toilet. There is a huge potential for the place to be lovely. Even a wee trim of the grass would have made the place look better. Lots of biting insects, so take insect repellent. I would recommend eating at Miss Woo's in Leith and we got a good voucher for the zoo. It's about a 25 minute drive to both.
Gorebridge can meet a tourists essential needs in that there is a little train station (we parked the car there all day whilst we caught a train to Edinburgh). There are convenience stores, take aways and also a lovely pub where we had an evening meal. Everyone we met in gorebridge were nice and welcoming.
Gorebridge its self is nice. ..the location for the pods is nice but there is just junk all over the place...toilets were being painted while we were there i didn't realise at the time and got paint over me...the walk from the car to the pods with all your bags is ridiculous the pod well it's like staying on a bus seat
