This was once a residential care facility that is being retro-fitted as seven individual flats, using modern fixtures and neat furniture - much from IKEA. And they really are self-contained and could be lived in long term - and come equipped with kitchen basics in terms of both tools and the kinds of ingredients you don't want to buy at every stop: pepper, oil, tea, coffee, milk, sugar. There's a full stove, dishwasher, and a smart TV. It's a very nice development and in a wonderful position, within walking distance to all that downtown Kirkcudbright has to offer - with two supermarkets, multiple take-out food outlets, countless galleries, and lovely gift and flower shops. If you're coming for a family occasion, call ahead to Lily Knowles Flowers and ask for Adele. Access is by easy electronic codes and a lockbox for the key, so arrival times are flexible - which can be a blessing given how hard it can be to predict cross country trips in Scotland. Kirkcudbright is also the home of Scottish Photography Hides which is well worth checking out for their award worthy professional photography opportunities. Just a neat location overall.

We loved the little town.

We loved the little town. There were cafes and small gift shops but not too many. The small harbour has an outdoors "pod" that sells snacks prepared from fish/seafood from the days catch. Kirkcudbright has visitor attractions but they don't spoil the atmosphere of this wonderful little gem. It keeps it's integrity! The repaired statue by the harbour was the subject of a TV programme. It's to remember those who lost loved ones at sea. Definitely worth a look. Would recommend visiting Kirkcudbright!

I liked the museums, galleries and individual shops.

I liked the museums, galleries and individual shops. As we were visiting out of season, some of these were closed on Sunday and Monday. We were disappointed the planetarium was only open at the weekend. It's a friendly little town and despite the inclement weather, we really enjoyed it. We had lunch in The Clan, dinner in The Selkirk Arms ( which was superb) and also tried out the sit in restaurant of the fish shop. It was very nice too. We only visited for a few days. It was very easy to get around, it's very compact little town. I will certainly visit again.

Easy town to walk around, right next to a small but lovely harbour . shops, cafes, restaurants, enough for the size of town. Very quiet in winter which was perfect. Perfect spot to go exploring further a field.

Broughton House, Kirkcudbright Art Gallery and Jessie King's Garden in Greengate Close (tucked away off the High Street) are all delightful places to visit for art lovers! A charming town with pretty houses and fascinating buildings, such as the Tolbooth, set on the attractive River Dee estuary, near picturesque countryside.

We stayed in room 4 at the front of the hotel.

We stayed in room 4 at the front of the hotel. The setup of the room was excellent, you get basically a double room, one half was the bed and on-suite the other half was the lounge eating area. Both areas were a fair size as well. There were plenty of sockets, good lighting, a full sized fridge, tea/ coffee facilities, with a good selection of Teas and coffee 2 TV's, thick curtains and the rooms were lovely and warm// The staff were very friendly and did their best to ensure you had a great stay, Everything was lovely and clean and considering your room is right over the pub, you were not disturbed by any noise. the bed was clean and comfortable. Like a lot of independent hotels it could do with a little updating and careful thought to certain things , such as the furniture in the bathroom eventually reacts with the moist atmosphere and that shows around the edges. the very large shower tray should either be ceramic or better supported underneath to stop any movement. Hot food was available if booked but we wanted to experience eating out in the town. Because it was a big event parking was a little bit of a problem but if you persevere you will get a good secure spot.

The location just off KIrkcudbright's historic High Street was first rate, albeit parking on arrival on a wet Friday evening was not straightforward. The layout of this mews-style refurbished cottage was good, and both the kitchen and the bathroom were thoroughly modern. Good water pressure in shower. The property was cool on arrival, but soon warmed up using the intuitive Nest control panel.

Great location, with all you need a short walk away. Kirkcudbright is a super centre for exploring this corner of Scotland. The garden is a bonus, although the weather when we stayed was not great for sitting outside. I wish we could have stayed longer! The host was very helpful when we had a couple of small problems which were easily solved.
