Just 20 minutes from the center of Belfast, The Strangford Arms is a renovated Victorian hotel, offering elegant rooms and free private parking. A "gem" of a find, tucked in behind the main road with a private car park and "tardis" like inside with extensive restaurant area, great food, very friendly staff and comfy spacious bedroom. Convenient location easily found and close to town centre.
The Hide is a detached holiday home in a rural location 3.7 mi from Newtownards, with lake views of Strangford Lough. Free private parking is available on site. Fantastic location with amazing views. Cosy a with the fireplace being the icing on the cake!
With a contemporary design and a cozy atmosphere, Clandeboye Lodge is just 5 minutes’ drive from Bangor. There are beautiful landscaped sculpture gardens and the stylish rooms have free Wi-Fi. The staff were great we had a wonderful family get together for a birthday dinner which was excellent!!!
Boasting accommodations with a patio, Coach Road Cottages is located in Comber. This apartment features a garden, barbecue facilities, free WiFi and free private parking. Spacious and cozy apartment in a peaceful area with lovely views. It was very clean, well equipped and overall very comfy. Ivan is a great host, friendly and welcoming. Very good location to explore the wonderful natural surroundings yet a stone-throw from Belfast. The kids and ourselves had a wonderful time here at Coach Road Cottages! Highly recommended.
Nice old buildings around Conway Sq. But some empty rundown ones too. Friendly lady in Arts Centre office. Handy bus to Somme Centre Museum, well worth the visit. Buses to and from Belfast finish too early, c 9 to 10 pm.
The food was lovely and the staff were friendly and helpful. Pity about the cold water in the bathroom which I did mention at reception and was told there were a few rooms with this problem but it was being rectified.
The tip I would give would be to step up on breakfast for celiac gluten free .breakfast was disappointing. As there is a lot that can be got now in breakfast foods also spaperate toaster needed for gluten free .
Newtownards is in most beautiful setting just a wee hop from Belfast and the coast. This is one of the most underrated and under visited parts of the island of Ireland. No one who comes for a visit will be disappointed.
Places to visit are many but I suggest the following, Scrabo Tower which overlooks Netownards, Helens Tower in the Clandeboye Estate which is copied as the Ulster Tower on the Somme is where the 36th Ulster Division trained before going to France in 1916. Have a coffee on Conway Square and have your photo taken next to Paddy Mayne's statue. Lt Col Blair "Paddy" Mayne was one of the founding officer's of the SAS in North Africa in WW2 and one of the most decorated officers of the war. He died in 1954 and his grave is located in Movilla Cemetary Newtownards is also the gateway to the Ards Peninsula, a place of inherent beauty and history.
A lovely place near many tourist attractions. Mount Stewart National Trust Gardens. Belfast. Titanic Exhibition. Strangford Lough. The mountains of Bourne. Newcastle. Coast. Close to airports and docks for travelling.
Fantastic hotel in a very convenient location. Ideal for the business traveller!
