Beautiful old property with new modern lodging, additions… It’s obvious most of the money spent building the huge spa and new lodging with less attention to the older building.

The position is wonderful. The atmosphere easy and warm . The room was comfortable.
From our country house hotel by the sea, the only thing we overlook is the bay. Our spectacular clifftop location offers a 180 degree sea view over Carlyon Bay.

Nice and conveniently located to transportation and food shopping. One of few places with availability of heating during cooler weather. Enjoyed the homemade breakfast platter.

Peter and Helen were really friendly, the two dogs were always happy when you are around them.
The only downfall was that the drive way to the house, isn't suitable for large cars or vans. The gate was a bit awkward to turn in from the main road.

Charlestown is charming!
Charlestown is charming!
Unspoilt, good choice of restaurants although not extensive menus.
Good selection of art galleries and antiques.
A couple of clothes shop, it could do with an independent boutique
Not glamourous more of a seaside vibe, quite casual.
It has retained its charm and on an evening with festoon lighting along the quayside is very pretty.
Families, couples, solo traveller, you are made to feel welcome, especially four legged companions!
All eateries allow dogs and have a bowl of water for t hem.
Definitely no hens or stags!
Very safe in the evening, no nightclubs, after 11.30pm it is quiet with only the lapping of the waves.
We did not go into the town centre of St Austell ,my review is only of Charlestown, however there is a Tesco and Asda 5 minute drive away.

Town centre a little run down with lots of vacant shops, also some pubs also closed so a little restricted in choice but the White Hart Hotel is good for drinks and food. There's a Wetherspoons and an American diner which we used both worth a visit.

St Austell is clearly an economically depressed area of the country hi8ghly dependant on tourism. The main roads getting into Cornwall and Devon are excellent but I do not plan to return as the weather is unpredictable andthe price of accommodation is high for the standard offered. Restaurants are on the expensive side and this appears to be because of the area being so dependant on tourism.

We arrived in St Austell in the afternoon.
We arrived in St Austell in the afternoon. We went for a stroll around St Austell and were very surprised to find that there was very little choice of restaurants. We dined in the local Fish and Chip diner which was fine.
St Austell is close to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the lovely village of Mevagissey.

Location wonderful, a beautiful refurbishment, public rooms lovely. Nearby parking at Rashleigh Arms, but several teething issues became apparent.
Recommended nearby... Visit Steve inatThe Rum Sailor, amazing rum bar (hundreds of choices) in old clay loft; Charlestown Gallery art/cards; HBQ (Harbour BBQ) excellent street food fish taco (opposite hotel), Shipwreck Museum combined ticket option with Shackleton Exhibition (superb). Coastal path walk to Duporth beach, lovely quiet find.
We loved the beautiful view from the front of the Hotel..whilst sitting in the conservatory for breakfast and outside having a drink! The breakfast was cooked freshly to order and of very good quality...
The ease to get into Charles Town which we fell in love with...and to Carlyon Bay which was a lovely sandy beach with a nice beach bar ..this Hotel has a great location with beautiful views!
It was nice to have a friendly welcome on arrival. The hotel is lovely and quiet even though it's close to the town centre. I had a very comfortable, warm room and really comfortable bed I had a wonderful night's sleep and enjoyed a delicious well cooked English breakfast. Very friendly and helpful owner. I would definitely come again.
Stayed one night just as a stop over to travelling further on into Cornwall for a holiday . Same room as before ,booked an evening meal which was fantastic . Very nice breakfast before leaving . Friendly staff , lovely service from everyone and very clean and pleasant hotel . Good value . Thoroughly recommended.
Loved everything about this hotel. The room was massive, the location was great, very close to the town centre but very quiet at the same time. Very nice breakfast with buffet and hot plates.
