Visiting some rental properties. Stockport is working hard to improve it's neglected image and doing it very well with the station development , Olympic 50 m swimming pool leisure complex and promotion of it's market Sq heritage trail. Bramhall hall and Park is a must see anytime of the year and only 3 miles from the Centre. A visit to Central Manchester is only 8 mins away on the train.
We didn't get around Stockport too much but what we saw was fine. Sure there'll be other parts like any other town, both good & bad. The old market area has some good on street seating for having a quiet beer or two while watching the world go by. The 'underbank' is novel and worht the trip down and back up via stairs or the winding roads! 21 Frog sculptures are currently there to be found and pictured
Easy access to the station and to the hotels which are very close by. Pleasant shopping arcade but unfortunately big stores like Debenhams, Marks and Spencer and BHS are no longer there . Now that these stores have gone I probably would not visit again as there is not much to look at within the town itself. There is a shuttle bus service which goes around the town starting from the bus station which is very handy. I had lunch in the Holiday Inn Express which is close to the station before boarding a train for home.
Stockport was much nicer than we thouight it would be as it gets a bad press however it has some lovely old buldings and the area is slowly being regenerated. There was a lot to do in Stockport The Staircase house is well worth a visit ,it looks bely its interior, The Air raid tunnels were also good .The Produce Hall was good for a drink and some food. The Robinsons Brewery was not open for visits yet (post covid) and the Hat works temporaily closed being refurbished, .We would come back to see these another time
In Stockport you should see the Hat Museum as Stockport is famous for hat making, or was. We went to Bramhall Hall this time which is out of town, a lovely old manor house and lots of grounds with play areas. There is also the brewery (Robinsons) to go round but may be shut due to Covid. Lots of pubs and restaurants and quite good shopping.
We like seeing our family. However the shops are good although a pity M & S now closed. It is interesting to go on the tour of Robinsons brewery. The Hat Museum is great. We have yet to go to the underground bunkers.
Staff were friendly. Family room was big. Location is good for Stockport centre. When shower didn't work, reception staff arranged for me to shower in another room. Hotel is dated, but that's a big part of its charm. (When did you last have a room with a real key, not a card?!) It's not an impersonal, corporate-designed space.
Stockport
Easy booking and process to get in on arrival. Nice rooms - tidy & clean. Quiet area. Parking provided for with coupons. Would stay again - it's on my list of places to stay in Stockport. No complaints :-).
Excellent breakfast, good ingredient, tasty. I also liked that there is real art on display - contrast with the samey nature of corporate hotels. It was clean and fresh.
The Holiday Inn in Stockport is my first choice of accommodation in the area usually. It's immaculately clean and the staff are professional and friendly.
