A beautifully presented family-run B & B that gives you all the privacy you want or engagement with other travelers in the well-appointed common areas. Funnily enough, they get quite a few bookings and then cancellations from Australian travelers who mistakenly think they were booking for Torquay, Victoria, Australia rather than on the Devon Coast, UK. The family is delightful with dad being an excellent chef (breakfast eggs benedict was cooked perfectly), mum was so hospitable with great directions and suggestions with our walk to the harbor front and dinner, and the daughter who looked after us with checking in and at breakfast was just a breath of fresh air (good luck with your uni studies). I would definitely stay there again but this time for a few more days so we could take advantage of that inviting-looking swimming pool.

we had a group of age and the property accommodate us to be able to sit and chat and plan our trips. we had a lot of paperwork to do in preparation for what we were doing next and the hotel was so helpful and so accommodating. Also, we left some important material in a room and when we called, they had it and it was shipped off to us. Fabulous service.

It’s an old hotel that has a lot of personal memories for me. The views across the bay are unparalleled. 50 years ago this hotel was high class and iconic. Today that has faded, and it is not the 5 star hotel of yesteryear, but it still has elegance, space, style and setting that is unbeatable in Torquay. Also, at the time of staying (Jan 2024), the restaurant underpromises and over delivers. I would describe the food as casual haute cuisine. Impeccable menu, well balanced, all sauces made with concentrated and crafted flavors that are clearly prepared by a high quality chef. Also, thoroughly enjoyed a mud pack and massage. All the staff were friendly, helpful, attentive. Not the place it was but still a great place to stay.

What Guests Said About Torquay:

The beach and parade is nice.

The beach and parade is nice. At night the ever changing colourful chain of lights along the whole length of bay is mesmerising and adds to flair. Like many towns some shops are closed and makes area look desolated. Lots of restaurants near beach. Good bus connections. Torre Abbey museum is worth a visit. Lots of spas in hotels to choose from.

We stayed in Torquay to visit the football ground and staying in the harbour area was only a 20-25 minute walk away, though uphill, from the ground. Would definitely recommend a trip to Plainmoor stadium, their hospitality was excellent value and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We met some fellow supporters who were visiting the drinking establishments afterwards and Torquay has plenty, including a Wetherspoons. The town is also well connected with a train station and frequent buses that take you throughout The Riviera. We stayed in Torquay for a reason(football) but the town is past it’s glory days and I would chose(for a general holiday), the charm of Brixham or for families(who don’t like the tackiness of Paignton), the delightful suburb of Goodrington (great beach). The excellent no 12 bus service covers all these areas so you would still be free to explore the other areas of The Riviera, without a car, if that was your wish.

Lovely seaside location. Some great restaurants.

Lovely seaside location. Some great restaurants. Would recommend the boat trip to one of the nearby towns. Promenade is great however, the High Street is a bit depressing. Saw a lot of drug abuse there in broad daylight, police and a man passed out on the street. All a bit bleak.

Location was amazing. Best views in Torquay in our opinion. Shops, restaurants, theatre all within easy walking distance but if less able, plenty of places for blue badge holders to park. Parks were lovely. Lights at night beautiful, not tacky. Breakfast in hotel very good, so much choice, and view whilst eating it is wonderful. Staff very attentive and friendly.

My third time staying at the Headlands hotel and I wouldn't stay anywhere else when I visit Torquay. Nice location over looking the sea, and only a short walk down to the harbour. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the hotel is smart and the rooms I've stayed in are always very clean. Definitely recommend the Headlands hotel as a place to stay in Torquay 😃
