Charming shops. Excellent heritage museum in classic Thomas Telford building. Friendly people everywhere. Beautiful views. Fine places to eat such as the Seaforth which serves super fresh fish. Nearby laundromat where we had our dirty clothes washed for a reasonable price.
maybe it was sheer luck, but a ship was docked and the crew ended up in the hotel bar my first night. then I found them again the next night. all around, it's a fun little place with a few bars to pop into.
The north west of Scotland is the best place in the world, especially when the sun shines. The scenery is breath taking, the people are welcoming and the seafood is excellent, but don't tell everyone or there will be no hotel rooms to book!
My purpose for travelling to Ullapool was to catch the morning ferry to Stornoway. AS I arrived after 10pm and left the next morning on the ferry I can't really comment on Ullapool other than to generalise. It was clean and well suited for touring the Western Highlands with ferry connections for the Outer Hebrides. The people we came into contact with were friendly and helpful.
A beautiful picturesque little place to visit. Would certainly make a return. Lovely views, nice restaurants and bars and fantastic live entertainment. Would return just to see the Johnny cash guy playing at the Ferry Boat Inn, he was outstanding.
I like the many little shops and galleries where staff were always chatty and pleased to see you. I ate at the 'Ceilidh plac'e which had a wood burning fire and was warm and cosy with lovely food. Also the Ferry Boat Inn which again had a varied sea food menu and very cheery and welcoming staff. There was live music in my hotel in the evening, both traditional Scottish and modern.

It is unfortunate that the rooms with the best views of the loch front onto the road and are above the bar. On the night we were staying, the hotel had a singer booked. However, the manager very kindly moved us to another lovely room further back, still with a view of the loch, and we had a most enjoyable meal and stay. The Ferry Inn is very convenient if you catching a ferry out of Ullapool.

This hotel did not offer an evening meal, however the owner suggested The Arch on the main street, which was a 10 minute walk and boy was it a good place to eat. The food was outstanding and we will definitely be trying this restaurant again when we visit Ullapool again.
