Dating back to 1620, Moresby Hall is one of only a few Grade I Listed buildings in Cumbria. A beautiful house, very historical. The breakfasts are amazing (especially the scrambled egg with smoked salmon!) The Saxons couldn't have gone to more trouble to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.

I was there for three days for work. Whitehaven is a beautiful town but has suffered neglect in some areas. Lots of shops and restaurants/pubs are closed permanently or at least through the week. sad to see. we ate at The Vagabond pub/restaurant and also The Peddler - both are excellent value and excellent food. we drank in The Waverley bar and that is a relaxing pub environment. Staff in The Waverley are so helpful.
I lived in Whitehaven for a short time 50 years ago. Then - frankly - it was a run down dump. The transformation to today's beautiful Georgian town, particularly around the harbour, is amazing. All achieved with EU money apparently. Well worth using Whitehaven as a base from which to tour the Lake District from the unspoiled west, particularly Crummock Water, Buttermere, and Wastwater. I had a superb homemade lunch at The Bridge Hotel in Buttermere, and a similarly excellent supper in the bar at The Wasdale Head Hotel. In Whitehaven itself, the Vagabond pub looked nothing from outside but was excellent within with superb food and real ale. If you're looking for a B&B, the Corner House in Whitehaven is unbeatably comfortable and welcoming with first rate breakfasts.
Whitehaven is a good base for doing walking days out. We used the coastal railway service each day. Our trip down to Ravenglass and then up to Eskdale on the railway was brilliant. Whitehaven has an interesting coastal history and good architecture. There is a gem of a local museum there and also one dedicated to rum. Quite limited in places to eat at night. Friendly folks all around.
Whitehaven itself is only worth a few days visit, but its location gives access to a wider area of Cumbria. The harbour area and the sea front are the best features. Some parts of the town, appear rather run down, with many empty shops (March 2022), although this could be a consequence of the pandemic.
Whitehaven is lovely, people very friendly. Nice to walk along the Harbour with a bag of fish n chips!! Very close to Ennerdale and not too far to Keswick and the lakes. If you want a good meal head slightly out of town to The Sunnyhill pub. 5☆ staff always very helpful and friendly, never had a bad meal. Excellent food and plenty of it. Steak cooked exactly as required 💯. Remember to book as its always busy.
It's a great place for older people but not really for the young. We love the waterfront, harbour and marina. It's a great place for walking dogs but there was a major issue with a lot of dog faeces being left by owners. Maybe there should be wardens patrolling the area and culprits should be named and shamed
Whitehaven
The location is perfect for access to the western part of the Lake District. The hotel was spotless, the mattresses nice and firm, and the bathrooms were incredibly clean. It was quite peaceful and quiet. Rooms are a bit small but I'm probably more used to American-sized rooms, which tend, on average, to be more spacious. The area where the hotel is located is also good for short dog walks for those traveling with a pet.
A little outside the town of Whitehaven itself but was no problem. Large car park with ample parking Great receptionist with a fantastic welcome. Rooms were as good as any Travelodge. Loads of hot water in the shower and a great tv and kettle with tea and coffee. The bed was very comfortable.Good towels too. All in all it was very good. We were able to keep our car there for the weekend while we rode the Coast to Coast.
Room very clean / tidy, breakfast very good, staff very helpful and friendly and couldn't do enough for you, easy walk into town, pleasant patio area outside to sit and have drinks, found everything great, with the added pressure that hotels must have during this Covid-19 time the hotel is doing a great job, would stay again.
Gorgeous hotel, all facilities were amazing. Breakfast was amazing! The location was great, 2 minute walk to bars and restaurants. We met a lovely couple from the local area who told us it was ‘the best place in town’ and I couldn’t agree more. I can’t rate the staff enough, they were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
