Set within a Grade II Listed former coaching inn, this award-winning property occupies a prominent position opposite the church in the picturesque village of Wingham, just outside Canterbury. What was not to like?? The staff were fabulous, the venue and its surroundings were just perfect, my evening meal was exceptional and the same with the breakfast. Thank you
Located in Littlebourne, 15 mi from Margate, The Duke William provides a restaurant and free WiFi. Very beautiful location in a wonderful village. Spacious room with a very nice terrace. Very dog friendly. Breakfast was excellent as was dinner. Very helpful and attentive staff.
Set in Canterbury in the Kent region and Canterbury Cathedral reachable within 5.6 mi, The Quaives offers accommodations with free WiFi, BBQ facilities, a garden and free private parking. Such a friendly couple running the place. The location is amazing and so close to everywhere we wanted to go but felt like you werr beyond the horizon.
Boasting garden views, The Bell House - 500 year old town house in quiet country village offers accommodations with a patio and a kettle, around 5.6 mi from Canterbury Cathedral. A place with history. Located in a quaint village a bit away from the city. Cosy, comfortable and well provided. Easy check in.
The Anchor in Wingham is a family run pub which offers live music on certain days and has a great function room for hire upstairs. Would highly recommend The Duke in Ickham for food and ambience and the Rose Inn at nearby Wickambreaux which is another family run village pub with a very good menu of home cooked food - it is very welcoming and cosy with charming hops on the beams and a roaring fire. For morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea it is worth paying a visit to Gibson's farm shop which is about a mile outside of Wingham. Here you can purchase high quality meat from the on-site butcher which sells their home reared meat as well as a wide variety of wines, fresh vegetables, cheeses, bread, flowers, crafts and much more. If you are visiting with Children do not miss a visit to Wingham Wildlife Park which is set within 26 acres of parkland. If you have more time Howletts Wild Animal Zoo which is set in 90 acres is situated a short drive away.
Just a stopover for us as a base for playing golf, pretty but small Village, plenty to see in local Villages. Good restaurant in the Dog Inn if you are visiting this part of Kent. Close to Canterbury, about 30 mins from Margate/Ramsgate and not far to historic Sandwich.
Wingham is a charming village, it is close to Canterbury - with a regular bus service if you dont want the bother of driving there. It is also very close to the Channel ports so is great for an overnight stay either en route or on return from trips to Europe. The Dog is definitely the best place to eat in town ...
Personally, I was en route to Sandwich for a celebration. Staying at Wingham was just about as near as I could get as Sandwich was booked up for the Saturday. It's an interesting place to stroll around and has a wildlife park just up the road. I would have liked to have had more time to look around.
The village is quiet with local shops within walking distance of the pub. Car park was a good size and close to the bus stop which offered regular services into Canterbury and Deal. Howlett's Zoo and Wingham Animal Park are close by, and there were open fields for walking our two dogs. All in all this was a nice location if you are looking for a quiet couple of days away.
Unfortunately the Anchor was fully booked but the Salmar Indian restaurant was by no means a last resort and we would heartily recommend it. Wingham High Street has some lovely old cottages. Lots of pretty Kent villages nearby and Dover, Deal and Walmer Castles with easy reach. Walmer Castle is definitely worth a visit.
