Set in Hof at the foot of Vatnajökull National Park, Vesturhús Hostel provides a shared lounge and free WiFi throughout the property. Guests can enjoy mountain views. Our first hostel experience! Much better than expected. Clean, spacious kitchen and lounge area. Clean bathrooms, warm water, comfy beds. We had everything we needed. We met interesting people from Italy. The owner was friendly and helpful and very willing to accommodate our needs and keep us informed. We saw a great show of Northern Lights!
The amazing location of Hotel Skaftafell provides guests with stunning views of Iceland's highest mountain, Hvannadalshnjukur and the largest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull. Excellent service and food at the restaurant. Food quality was superb, waiters were very professional. Would highly recommend to have dinner there. Hotel was very clean and cozy.
With river views, Reynivellir is located in Gerdi and has a restaurant and a shared kitchen. Complimentary WiFi is featured. Quite remote cabins with amazing views of mountains and beautiful waterfall right behind them. Got a northern lights show out the front. Highly recommend.
Set a 10-minute drive from Jökulsárlón Glacier, this farm guest house offers bright and basic rooms with free Wi-Fi, wooden floors and mountain views. Iceland’s Ring Road is right next to the... The hosting lady was super welcoming and nice to us! We were offered some drinks and yogurt, home made cake and it all was delicious :) We also asked for the pill against headache and she found one for us. Thanks!
It's a very small community. Around 10 people live there (at least that's what the hotel manager told us). Don't expect to arrive at night for a bite, you need to bring your own food since the places around close really early. But hey, that's Iceland all over around. If you made it to Hof, you should know that already :)
Hof in itself has not much special, at the exception of the small half-buried house depicted among the pictures of the Hof 1 hotel. But while in the area, there's one thing you can't miss: Jökulsarlon, the place where icebergs literally escape from the glacier directly into the sea water, and reach the sea through a channel under the road bridge. The colours of these icebergs are amazing, and the contrast of the ice stones on the black-sand beach is very inspiring. A visit of an ice cave is not a must; or at least, not this year. It's expensive, and a bit disappointing. As the caves have to be re-discovered each year, "another year's cave" could be worth the waiting and the money. Check recent comments when considering going.
Hof is tiny (a few houses and the hotel) but it is a great base to do a variety of activities in the area. It is also spectacular scenery for short walks. If you want to try ice caving, go for "Local Guide of Vatnajökull" - they were really lovely and all grew up around the glaciers so they know the area best and willrun tours in more remote caves when other companies cancel.

In the house itself there are two bedrooms and just next to the house an extra guesthouse with its own entrence and bathroom. The hottub was great!! So...in short: Best place we had in Iceland! It's close to amazing locations in southern Iceland. The room was clean and had its own sink. The staff was very friendly.
