It is a fantastic town - very small so can seem very busy but totally worth the stay - way more steps than I had expected but if I had thought about it it is a town built on a cliff side - wouldn’t recommend for elderly people who have difficulty walking. As one waiter summed it up: “In Positano we have no belly but our knees are broken”!
One of the beautiful places I have ever been, I couldn't recommend it enough! The views are amazing but also loved all the little streets leading down to the beach. Our favourite restaurant was Bruno, which surprisingly was one of the most reasonably priced but had the best views! The easiest way to get here is definitely taxi, we ended up getting a bus from Naples airport to Naples train station, followed by a train to Sorrento and then a bus to Positano! This took about 3 hours but only cost around 15 euros each. One thing I will say is that Positano is extremely expensive - probably the most expensive place I have ever visited in Europe! I was charged 5 euros for a bottle of diet coke and 25 euros per person to hire a sunbed on the beach.
We stayed down at the beach, which I consider was the best way to go. Positano is a bit more expensive than the other surrounding towns. We took out scooters to go to the neighboring towns which we consider it’s a must. Loved the experience, the views and the stay
A picture postcard-perfect sea port, ideal for excursions by boat to Capri and Amalfi. Must love stairs! If you collect sea glass, take a bag and plenty of time to explore the local beaches. The water is glorious for swimming. There was a choice of many excellent restaurants with superb ocean views, especially Pupetto--should have a Michelin star--and Saracen d'Oro--top service and menu. If you have good balance, are not afraid of heights, enjoy two to three-hour walks, and can scramble down rocky sections of mountain trails, the Path of the Gods is an ideal outing for spectacular views. One recommendation is to carefully plan transportation. Bus trips are challenging for travelers who are prone to motion sickness. Train, boat, and taxi travel may be better options.
Out of season visit. Weather unpredictable. Storms / rough seas meant our excursions to capri / Amalfi cancelled. Sea was cold but as expected, still a lovely visit but trickier to organise transport as many ferries don’t run out of season & reliable transfer back to flight in Naples can be upwards of€150 in a taxi. Buses not always reliable/ on time. Apparently very southern Italy so don’t rely on those for airport transfer
A place with fantastic views. Be ready for endless stairs, but it is good if you want to do some sport:) Positano is placed in the hill where the height difference between the sea level and your stay could be significant. But don't worry, there are a lot of rest places in between, bars, restaurants are all over the place. Food is excellent, staff friendly, so no problems at all. If you are more sporty type, you can do some nice trials around Positano (Nocelle, Il Sentiero Degli Dei - Path of the Gods). You can take a bus to Nocelle and start there, for more though ones, you can start from Positano but be ready for some 1700 steps! So, just enjoy it. The view is fantastic!
Perfect spot and a great value within a short walk of downtown Positano. Beautiful balcony off the room. Nice sized room and a really nice bathroom. This is a family run hotel and as such, the service is very personable. Giovanni was the perfect host. He was kind, super helpful and very positive and friendly. The breakfast was awesome and boy can his sister make eggs!! It helps that they have their own chickens. It felt like saying goodbye to family when we finally checked out. Great value!!
Parking is a major problem throughout the Amalfi coast, so if you are planning on renting a car , this hotel is a great parking solution. The staff was delightful, pool service and waiters were happy and helpful. We had breakfasts on the terrace. Our room 5 had a nice patio with garden. No elevator. Walking distance to a couple of nice restaurants. Cafe Positano and Da Vincenzo. Best sandal shop called NaNa a couple doors up the mountain. We would return to this hotel.
Positano
Best view on the Positano. Terrace includes chaizlongs as well as cute table with chairs so you can have breakfast as well as laying and enjoy views. Cute jacuzzi is availbale 24h in the common terrace. Room equipped with everytings is necessary for the stay - bathroom is larger than tipical one in Italy and is a big plus! Breakfast is cooked by request and always freshest; fruites, water, yogurt, cheez are always available at receiption. Guys always keen to help.
This is a first class property. The breakfast staff, the front desk attendant, the cleaning staff were all absolutely first rate. The room was super clean and quiet. They had a porter help us with our bags up and down umpteen stairs - this is a major benefit, as all of Positano seems to be built on a stairway of some sort. This was the most expensive hotel of our entire vacation.....and it was worth it!
Good location, friendly staff, decent rooms and amenities. Some of the reviews are unfair. My friends and I read them before arriving and were expecting something dire, but actually were pleasantly surprised. If you are expecting a top tier 5 star hotel, then you will be disappointed, but that is not what this property claims to be, and if that is what you want, expect to cough up the extra 800 a night.
Highly recommend anyone going to Positano to stay at Hotel Villa Franca. Owner and staff were extremely friendly and professional from the moment we walked in the door. Beautiful artwork and high end boutique design makes this a heavenly spot. The food, wine and livations were exceptional. Spa facility and staff were 5 star treatments. Roof top pool is relaxing with stunning views abound.
Amazing place to stay, situated in the centre of Positano near the beach. The hotel staff were very friendly from start to finish. The rooms were spacious and clean. Restaurant set in the hotel gardens was beautiful and breakfast was extremely good with waiter service. Pool area was stunning with views over the bay, pool waiter was very attentive.
Positano
Fantastic property right in the centre of positano, the family who fun the hotel so helpful and kind. The view from our balcony was unbelievable and one of the best in Positano. Breakfast on the balcony was delicious. Everything was perfect.Highly recommend Residence Tavolozza and we will be returning next year! Thank you Francesca and family.
This hotel is perfect! Location can't be better, you are right in the beach so you don't need to climb stairs every time to get somewhere, only the car but that is something you will only need to get out of Positano (and there are boats too). The breakfast was amazing, great service, clean rooms, had all the 5 star perks
Positano
THis sweet little hotel is well located. My room and I think all of the rooms have a view down into Positano. Positano
Emanuela (host) was absolutely amazing! She was always on hand for assistance even via phone when exploring Positano. Hotel was excellent value for money for our 2 days in Positano, options to walk or take the bus to the main parts and took no longer than 15 minutes. Breakfast was included and was super tasty!
The restaurant in the hotel called Mirage was the best restaurant in the entire positano!!!! Handsdown.. the prawn and vegetable tempura is to dieeeeee for 😍 the rest of the food on the menu was equally fantastic. Guiseppe from the restaurant was amazing. Also Julio from reception was a reallly helpful.
A very nice hotel offering the best view of Positano, I have requested for a specific room and I was given just that, couldn't be happier. The location is a nice bonus as it is near the bus drop off point and the stair climbing was not a lot compared to other places. Service was very good.
It was very central. In the middle of everything. Was very easy to get around. The room was great, view was terrific, and the personnel were terrific. Always felt welcomed. Have stayed in Positano several times and this was the best hotel. Will stay here again.
- The hotel is one of the best value options to get the quintessential Positano experience, complete with the terrace and excellent views. - The staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet was a nice addition.
Positano
I stayed at a hotel in Amalfi, a hotel in Sorrento, two BnB’s in Positano. If I could do it over I’d spend the whole time at Casa María Grazia. It was TRUE Italy. The lodging, the views, the locals. It was amazing.
Amazing hotel on the beach in Positano! The room was immaculate, the staff were welcoming and accommodating, and the restaurant was phenomenal!
The best location! Right on the beach and with easy access to central Positano. The staff were also lovely - very helpful and accommodating.
