I liked the location because it was convenient to three different hiking areas. I had a sea view room which was clean and comfortable. The nightly dinners allowed me to sample many Japanese delicacies. Staff adapted well to my minimal Japanese language skills and were helpful in areas I needed help. There was good parking space for my rental car and it was convenient to a grocery store.

Many families visiting Yakushima loved staying at Yakushima Iwasaki Hotel, Hotel Yakushima, and Marine Blue Yakushima.
Hotel Yakushima, THE HOTEL YAKUSHIMA ocean & forest, and Marine Blue Yakushima are some of the popular hotels in Yakushima.
These hotels in Yakushima are highly rated by couples: Yakushima Iwasaki Hotel, Hotel Yakushima, and THE HOTEL YAKUSHIMA ocean & forest.
It is an amazing island with beautiful nature and scenery but not well developed infrastructure and scarce public transport system. Best to rent a car, otherweise it limits activity on the other side of the island. Realisticly speaking the one destination visit per day is maximum with public transport. It is also necessary to begin early, as there are not really activities just for a half day (due to bus schedules). Therefore a 3 days stay may be a bit too short considering travel time with a ferry. It is good idea to shop before reaching island as there is limited supermarket choice.
Very wild Island. Good for people liking forest and trails, not good for people liking beaches. Not touristic Island. Organic Island, locals people are nice and helping. No shops. 7 days is enough to stay and visit.
We loved being in nature every day. Almost wherever you go, you have a view of the mountains and ocean. There are beautiful flowers everywhere. The less demanding hiking trails are interesting and fun and the waterfalls are spectacular. The onsens--especially the ocean onsen--are varied. The residents are friendly and helpful.
Yakushima is a Japanese island with many more attractions than most others. Although small, it is very hilly, so unless you're a steely cycling maniac, you really need a car. There is forest hiking for all levels of ability, great museums, gardens, some awesome waterfalls, and you'll even encounter families of monkeys in the middle of the road busy grooming each other, and maybe a deer or two, as well! This ruggedly mountainous island is full of stunning scenery - although if you're a photographer, it's an advantage if you're also a steely cycling maniac, because that's the easiest way to stop when you like on the very narrow roads, when it would be dangerous to do so if driving. The people are are universally laid-back and friendly - we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. We've visited lots of small Japanese islands, and this is probably our favorite to date.
A great place to visit for nature and hiking fans. As a beginner, the trails were fairly doable. We hired a car for our stay so travelling around the island was easy. I did see a lot of schedules around town for the busses so I assume there is a good bus network going for those who won't be hiring a car. My favourite place from our visit was definitely Yakusugi land because I saw some of the most beautiful scenery that I've ever seen.
If you want an unspoilt, natural, unpolluted place and love to hike then this is the place for you. If you are looking for entertainment then stay on the mainland. Magical ancient forests, stunning waterfalls, crystal clear spring water, the freshest air, hot spring baths in the sea , stars so big and clear that you can almost touch them....... There is Yakushima time and everyone is laid back and friendly but nothing else but good clean healthy fun !
Yakushima
Very good location, very close to bus stop no 60 Isobe (2 min), walkable to local restaurants in the Anbo district (5~20 min) and supermarket Banchan (20 min), drive to Yakushima airport (10 min), Yakusugi Land (30 min) and Yodogawa trail entrance (55 min), surrounded by trees and natural sounds; extremely friendly and efficient staff; nice Japanese-style breakfast; nothing particular BUT cosy atmosphere!!!
Yakushima
The owner was so helpful that he even explained meticulously everything to me about going around Yakushima. As a first time tourist in the Island, I just did everything he told me especially going to Shiratani and it was perfect. I stayed only for a night but I felt like I've experienced a lot of things already. Thank you so much Hiro san. I hope to see you again soon maybe around August.
It has a great location overlooking a beautiful river which flows drom the mountains to the sea. The staff were so friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable about the area. All the equipment and amenities needed to explore the island are available there. Definitely recommend this hotel for your stay. Not far from all the major places you'll need to visit.
It is a walking distance from Miyanoura port and from airport bus directly goes to that port quite offen. The staff are very helpful, and they did they best to assist me when I needed help. Breakfast has a lot of options, and they offer lunch pack for people who want to go hiking very early and can not have breakfast at the hotel.
Yakushima
We had our own spacious cottage with a terrace facing a small garden. We had a shared bathroom that looked like a small onsen, big, extremely clean and with a hot bath, also facing the nature. We slept so well!! We didn't have a car and the host drove us and our friends to the ferry pier; this was very nice of them.
Yakushima
This was an ideal first stop in Yakushima - our host gave us a good sense of how to use public transportation, which of the hikes we were planning on he thought were extra special, and took precautions to help everyone feel safe during the pandemic. Definitely get the bentos for hiking - they were exceptional.
The lodge is absolutely beautiful and has everything one could need. The host is very friendly and gave us some very useful suggestions. The neighborhood is very green and peaceful and we enjoyed daily interactions with chickens and a very jumpy goat. We will definitely stay again if we visit Yakushima again.
Yakushima
Quiet location, beautiful house with nice artistic touches. Homemade desserts and local brews available. Yuki was so helpful on booking us the Miyazaki car ferry. The only place we stayed at in 3 weeks across Japan with REAL LINEN sheets!
Yakushima
The accommodation is 2min walking distance to the ferry. The staff was very kind and accommodating, providing all the necessary info to get around. 7 min walking distance from this place is a supermarket, which we used every day.
Yakushima
Friendly and warm host. Ready to provide you with local information, help make reservations, and share Yakushima's beauty. The space felt more homey as the owner was very warm and inviting. Thank you very much!
Because the property sits on a spit of land at the southern end of Yakushima, you can actually enjoy both sunrise and sunset from the rooms and/or the main terrace. Also, the food was delicious.
Excellent location, the hotel is very close to the beach and to the bus stop, and the accommodation is very confty and pretty. The owner is super nice, I highly recommend this place.
Yakushima
The staff was so nice and inviting and the house itself was beautiful. If I ever find myself in Yakushima again, I will definitely stay there again.
Yakushima
The breakfast was good, a semi-traditional Japanese style. The room was pleasant. Overall a good stay for a few days in Yakushima.
Yakushima
Nice hotel. Friendly staff, nicely presented dinner. There is a big supermarket 5minutes distance by walking.
