Featuring a garden, Seaside Hotel Yakushima is located in Yakushima in the Kagoshima region, 22 miles from Yakusugi Land and 9 miles from Jomon Sugi. The staff understood english and were very helpful. The building looked rundown but the facilities were well kept and neat. The place was clean and the service was 10/10. They offered to bring us to the airport for free. The public bath was well equipped with toiletries and lotion.
Located 5 mi from Yakusugi Land in Yakushima, Yakushima Iwasaki Hotel features a restaurant, bar and free WiFi. The hotel has a hot spring bath and sauna, and guests can enjoy a meal at the... Super helpful staff, very efficient! Onsen is very good, room very comfortable. The hotel has a huge, beautiful park. The bus that goes around the island stops at the entrance of hotel, very convenient. For early trekking, they can replace breakfast with a packed breakfast+ bento lunch. We could rent electric bikes for a nice ride along the coast.
Featuring 5 different Japanese baths, traditional foods and 2 saunas, Jomon no Yado Manten is just 656 feet from Yakushima Airport and a 45-minute drive from the Shiratani Unsuikyo Ravine. Great service, staff always helpful. Luxurious place. Food was delicious! Also the car hire rate was better than the nearby rental places.
Located 6.2 mi from Shiratani Unsuikyo, Cottage Yakusugi features Yakusugi Japanese cedar in its architecture and decor, including its walls, ceiling, pillars and furniture. This is one of the most beautiful and comfortable places I have ever stayed at. The host picked me up from the boat dock, got me a bus pass, stopped at the grocery store, and then took me up the mountain to go hiking and returned four hours later! His place looks out to his large garden and then to the mountains. It is immaculate, huge, comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped, and there was a bicycle to use as well. Plus the location is great. It is a short distance out of town, a two minute walk to the bus stop, five minutes to the grocery store and fifteen minutes to town. Because it rained alot (rainy season), I spent a lot of time inside and loved every minute of it.
Newly opened in February 2014, Guest House Yakushima is located in the southern part of Yakushima. It offers free Wi-Fi throughout the property, free parking and a luggage storage service. Loved my private room. Very quiet at night. Owner spend lots of time with information and help to guests on buses, hiking trails and whatever you want to do. Kitchen well equipped for self catering. I bought all my food and beer from the owner. The guest house is positioned in a quiet picturous environment. Surrounded by mountains, waterfalls, a river and a forest. The owners care for his guests, his fluent English, the faultless facilities and hygiene and the position of the guesthouse makes this a number one.
Located a 15-minute drive from Yakushima Airport, La Isla Tasse is charming accommodations housed in a large American-style mansion. The host was amazing - she gave us really helpful tips and recommendations for restaurants and went out of her way to help us out. It was an amazing stay!
At Cottage Morinokokage, guests can rent out an entire wooden cottage with a hammock. Free WiFi is available in the guest rooms. Guests can enjoy a barbecue for an extra cost from March to September. Absolutely amazing! Don't miss the opportunity to stay with Mr. Nakashima! We stayed at cottage Morinokokage for 4 nights, Mr Nakashima took care for everything we needed and beyond. He helped us to rent a car with the best price, recommended us about great restaurants and nice places to see in the island. He even offered to take us to Anbo port at 6 am! The room was very clean, the bed was so comfortable - the best we had in our trip to Japan. Free laundry is available, The cottage located in a very nice place, great to calm and to enjoy nature.

A bit rural, and the main road routes the circumference of the island. There is a lot of construction along mountainous roads, creating long spans if one way roads. All worth it for an amazing time in nature.
We visited many places in Japan but Yakushima was by far the best experience. The trip to the island is where the adventure starts and where you leave the crowded cities of Japan behind you. Once on the island it's peaceful (during spring) and the nature is overwhelming. Hike through the beautiful ancient forests of Yakusugiland and Shiratani Unsuikyo ending at a mountaintop with a beautiful and very satisfying view. I would recommend to rent a car so that you can stay in the more beautiful hostels away from the harbours and drive around the west side of the island slaloming through monkeys and deers. Don't forget to treat yourself with a visit to one of the seaside onsens at the end of the day after a long hike.
A paradise for hikers and nature lovers! The citizens of Yakushima has done a fantastic job in preserving this piece of paradise on earth! We saw young deers roaming and enjoying themselves in the natural park area. Energetic monkeys with newborns to the chief were also happily enjoying their life there. Don't expect to dine out as there were much to offer from the island. Best is to stay and eat in the hotel. Do picnic during the day when out! We will go back next time perhaps during summer time to really enjoy the heat and the turtles returning to lay their eggs.
Yakushima is an amazing place, and I would highly recommend it to nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. There are hikes for all levels and lengths, and the people on the island were amazingly nice. I would love to go back.
Mythical island of enchanted forest of ancient trees, stunning natural beauty, waterfalls, clear flowing mountain streams, rainbows, beaches, towering granite peaks, carpet of flowers, organic gardens, ocean side hot springs, warm local people. Shangri-la.
One of the best islands I've visited in Japan. It was filled with nature but if we want to know many things about the island, we must hire a guide in trekking, at least one day, otherwise we miss so many things while trekking. Those famous old cedar trees are also marvelous but we shouldn't miss the other beautiful nature there. A car is definitely needed to travel in Yakushima. Driving on the main road is pretty easy but on the west side, we need to be careful with monkeys and deers as they don't move away even cars almost hit them. Food was pretty good such as flying fish and shochu etc... just this time we didn't try deer meat, but it should be good. Hopefully next time we'll visit in a warmer season so that we can swim on the beach.

Amazing! Although little English was spoken in the house, don't let that detour you. You'll make friends and have a great time! Great hiking base. If you're considering it, go for it! The price is great and the memories you'll make here will be invaluable. You'll feel welcome and want to come back annually. Seriously, do it! 15 minute bus ride from the port and a 3 minute walk from the airport.

It’s a really nice guesthouse on the south coast of Yakushima island. The owner is very friendly and helpful. All the facilities are very good and it’s particularly clean. Definitely recommend to stay here if you want a different location from Miyanoura! Anyone who would spend multiple days on Yakushima should consider staying on the south coast for some nights. It’s very beautiful down there!

Mayumi and Shiro are so kind and friendly, they drove us to different places on Yakushima and helped us with planning a lot of activities on the island. I had the best 4 days here, I will never forget their hospitality and kindness. Also; the home cooked food was really great, the view from the guesthouse is stunning. Overall; unforgettable thanks to these two great people

This is my first time in a minshuku AND my first trip to Japan, so I really appreciated the super friendly and helpful staff here! The family staff were super down to earth and knowledgeable about hiking trails/the island :) Do choose the meals option because the meals are exceptional! It will make you feel all warm and at home 😃 The Japanese bath is a very good experience, and they provide you with a yukata in your room. They also rent out hiking gears and provide tours, which is very convenient. I would've died without the rain gears :D The minshuku is located conveniently in front of the bus stop across from the local highschool. All in all, I have to say this was probably the best stay I've had!
