Kandy wasn’t as big as we thought seemed to do the centre easily in a day walking around . Definitely recommend the Botanical gardens really good and not as far as it looked , a short tuk tuk ride .The constant people asking do you want stuff can be a bit overwhelming at first but a polite no thank you was very effective .
A historical city in Sri Lanka, additional plus point is located in the hill country area where you can see picturesque sceneries abundantly. Mild or chilling weather compared to down south. Good for trekking, hiking, mountain climbing, cycling, photography etc.
Kandy, located in the central highlands of Sri Lanka, is a charming and picturesque city that is rich in history and culture. As someone who has had the pleasure of visiting Kandy, I can confidently say that it is a destination that should not be missed when travelling to Sri Lanka. One of the most notable attractions in Kandy is the Temple of the Tooth, which is said to house a sacred relic of Buddha's tooth. This temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the world. The temple is beautifully decorated with intricate carvings and colourful murals, and visitors can witness traditional ceremonies and rituals that take place within the temple. Kandy is also known for its scenic beauty, with lush green hills and stunning waterfalls. The Royal Botanical Gardens, located just outside of Kandy, is a must-visit destination for nature lovers. The gardens boast a vast collection of plant species, including rare and exotic orchids, and are a perfect place for a peaceful stroll or a picnic. Another attraction that should not be missed in Kandy is Kandy Lake. The lake is situated in the heart of the city and offers a serene atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely walk or boat ride. One of the highlights of my visit to Kandy was experiencing the city's vibrant cultural scene. Kandy is known for its traditional dance and music performances, which are a feast for the eyes and ears. The colourful costumes, graceful movements, and live music create an unforgettable experience that truly showcases the richness of Sri Lanka's cultural heritage. Overall, Kandy is a destination that offers something for everyone. Its historical and cultural significance, natural beauty, and vibrant atmosphere make it a must-visit destination in Sri Lanka. If you are planning a trip to Sri Lanka, be sure to include Kandy on your itinerary.
Kandy itself for us wasn’t that special. But you can get to many interesting places by scooter. See the elephant orphanage, waterfalls, temples that are out of tourists ways. What impressed us the most in Kandy was the Buddha statue on top of the hill with views of the city. If you want to see elephants then go either to Millennium Elephant Foundation (smaller and more intimate) or to Pinnawala (bigger and more elephants but also more people).
Kandy is last kingdom of Sri Lanka. It's set on a plateau surrounded by mountains, which are home to tea plantations and biodiverse rainforest. The city's heart is scenic Kandy Lake which is popular for strolling. Walking around Kandy lake is my favourite activity in morning during my stay.Kandy is famed for sacred Buddhist sites, including the Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) shrine, celebrated with the grand Esala Perahera annual procession.
Nice quiet place. Not too far from town and reachable. Friendly staff. Helpful and informative. I reached Kandy late evening. Not enough if you have to check out next day. So plan accordingly. There are enough places to see for a whole day. Tea factory, culture theatre, temple, all worth it. So research well and come with time on your hands.
Kandy
Feel Home is located a little bit outside Kandy but therefore it is quiet and you have a beautiful view from the terrace. You can reach the town with a tuktuk in 5-10min. Fazly is really nice and gave us Tipps for trips and helped us organise them. He really cares for his guests. The breakfast was delicious, we especially liked the Sri Lankan breakfast, but you can also choose western breakfast which was really nice as well. We can definitely recommend this accommodation.
Was a nice little hotel for a stopover in Kandy. Unfortunately I didn't make it to the pool area so not sure what that was like. They are eco friendly and don't provide plastic water bottles, but have a water jug where you can refill your bottles. They also have a generator and a solar panel that helps when there are power shortages. Room was basic, but clean. Nice hot water for the shower.
Kandy
Hanthana Rooms is the best place to stay if you want a quiet spot in busy Kandy. In the middle of the forest with a beautiful view you can relax and calm down. Ananda and his family are always available and will help where they can. The dinner is typically Sri Lankan and just a dream. All in all you can only feel good and be highly recommended 100%.
Everything. From the staff behaviour to location of the hotel to the rooms, everything was perfect. Special mentions to the Manager Mr. Tilak and Ruwan who helped, guided and served us with anything that we needed. Best place to stay in Kandy!
We stayed for a single night here. We loved the friendly staff, huge room with its modern interior and awesome buffet breakfast - our best hotel breakfast in Sri Lanka for a month for now!
