You need a nice weather there to catch real vibe of this...

You need a nice weather there to catch real vibe of this small town. Take the paper guide in hotel and visit all of the attractions. They are well thought over but again, they are fair and without posh. Ludza has renovated place around castle ruins and church which has beautiful views from hill to lake. In all the lakes you can swim with no worries about cleanliness and this is not only in Ludza but around all the region as well. People are calm, polite but remember this is not a modern city where everyone runs around to indulge everyone. Take your time and enjoyment will be much nicer. If you have a car/bike I recommend you to go around the region toward the town Zilupe, Nirza, Raipole (their church), Pasiene, Vecslabada. All this region in terms of landscape is a bit like Italian region Tuscany before it became "Tuscany". Be aware the most of the roads will be gravel roads but you definitely may drive their with any regular type of car/bike.

I recommend visiting the city park, the castle ruins and the open-air museum. To enjoy the old country dishes in the Ludza artisans' center - must be booked in advance. Sunbathing and water swimming at the Ludza lakes.

Recommended for Latgale and East-Latvia tour with ruins and...

Recommended for Latgale and East-Latvia tour with ruins and views giving a good impression of the old West-East border line and border fortifications with great ruins at the mountain top. Lot of hidden ruins and sights just a short drive around the lake away. A good tourist infrastructure to experience Latgale and perhaps a better alternative to spend a night to Rezekne.

A small Latgalian town.

A small Latgalian town. If you are a catholic, there is a tall church for you. Stroll around ruins, then take a walk in a mixture of an early 20th century plus post soviet town, half a day is enough. If you are travelling around Latgale, Ludza is a good place to stay over night.

We'd booked the room just an hour before arrival, but when we came to the hotel we were informed that this was a booking mistake about availability. In fact all rooms of this type have been busy already. Nevertheless the lady on reception provided a free Lux room for us for the same money, that was really great. Good location for the hotel, almost in the city center. Lots of parking places just in front of the main entry.

Communication with the host was very friendly and he provided all the necessary information very quickly. The apartment is well equipped and clean. Perfect for couples and families too. The apartment is outside the city center, but since Ludza is a small town, everything is within walking distance. Must be ready to climb to the 5th floor! There is no elevator. We took it as evening and morning training ;)

We had an excellent stay. The apartment is clean, well designed, comfortable, in a quiet neighbourhood and has a great view on the park. The kitchen is fine, the bathroom is spacious. Ludza is a nice and attractive town located in the midst of several lakes. We loved it.

The beds were comfortable. We had our own bathroom with towels, shower gel, and hair dryer. The hotel was quiet and clean, and we had a nice and simple breakfast. Possibly late check-in, friendly staff.
