Meknès is a imperial city, still it is by far less visited than its rival, Fes. Which is a shame, because you'll still find your dose of morrocan culture, architecture and history - in a less crowed, turistic way, which explains the calm and relaxing athmosphere you'll witness there.
A great insight into a Moroccan city without being a typical touristic option. It has history, landmarks, traditional interests, modern options, great food, etc, without the crowds that Fes or Marrakech get. Since it's much smaller and quieter than other, more famous cities, prices are better and are less chaotic. It has a great "provincial" feeling and slow pace. The Medina and Imperial city have amazing landmarks, shops and restaurants. Everything is within walking distance and there are also plenty of taxis and even horse carriages. Meknès has a train station and is easy to get to from Fes, Tangier, Casablanca or Rabat.
Beautiful city! the people are nice and respectful, they did not annoy any tourist on focong them to buy or go somewhere. Many historical sites plus close to Moulay Idris and Volubilis the Roman Empire ruins. Good vibes and good food there.
A good place to relax - manageable and friendly. Volubilis is an absolute must - it’s worth getting a guide. The mosaics were astonishing. Do not bypass the museum there because there are some excellent bronzes.
Meknes it is often overlooked by tourists but it should not. It has some interesting sites, as Bab al Mansour (Morocco's best medieval gate) and the fine Madrasa Bou Inania in the Medina (easily accessed with a 5 minutes walk from the Gate). It also makes an excellent base to visit nearby Volubilis with its Roman ruins and to take a day trip to Fes or Rabat/Salé. A much better place to stay than the above, quieter and less crowded.
The city has a much different atmosphere than Fez. It is much less touristy so you can get a better picture of what average city life is like in Morocco. There is a lot of history in Meknes and plenty of unique sights.

After few months around Morocco, I can say this is the best Riad I've been (I've considered just the places where I've paid the same price). Perfect room, well arranged and super nicely decorated. Silent location with quite a nice view from the terrace. The manager gave me interesting advices on what to see and visit around the city. Finally, you don't risk to get lost in the Medina because it's really well situated and next to the main city attractions.

Personel is very friendly and willing to help. Breakfest is not a buffet, but is really good. The rooms are not that big, however, there is enough space around to relax. Our favorite spot was the roof terrace; shadow, wind, view on meknes. The hotel is build as a Marocaine house in traditional style. The number of rooms is limited. From the hotel is a 10 minutes walk to the entrance of the medina. Parking was easy, just next to the entrance.

This was a great stay! We unexpectedly had to stay in Meknes overnight and found this offer. The host is amazing, friendly and helpful - basically somebody you really want to deal with when traveling. We asked for a very early breakfast due to our morning bus and we were given amazing warm food even though this was totally off the scheduled breakfast hours! Thank you so much!!! If we are ever back in Meknes, we will come back!

This is a beautiful, well furnished property with a rooftop terrace garden and an amazing view. It's well furnished and decorated, and had definite charm. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the owner (who was out of town) still took time to talk with us by phone to make sure everything was ok. Breakfast was very tasty. We had a wonderful stay, and would book this property again if we ever return to Meknés.

Nicely decorated, very spacious room - one of the biggest rooms we had during our trip around Morocco. The staff were very attentive especially Mohammed who made sure we had a pleasant stay and helped us arrange trips to Volubilis & Moulay Idriss. Very good location, easy to find within the medina and walking distance to the main attractions around Meknes.

Omar, the owner was very friendly and helpful. Gave us a delicious dinner off menu. Room was a good size. Bed was comfortable. Location was great, Yousuf was a big help in finding great local food. Great rooftop views of the city. Had wine we could buy, a bit expensive, but a nice local Meknes wine.

Both the owner and Jaime were wonderful during our whole stay. We have traveled in Morocco for two weeks and this has been no doubt the best place we've been in. Exceptional service; the Riad had been open for only a few weeks, and breakfast was excellent and enormous. We will be glad to return.

The location was very good. It was off the main street in the old town and there were restaurants and it was very convenient walking around. The Riad itself is amazing. The best one I stayed at in Morocco. The intricate designs and the terrace was amazing especially during sunset.

The owners Simon and Mouna were simply wonderful people and could not have been more friendly or helpful. The dinner at the riad was superb. I was sorry our stay at riad Lahboul was so short but would definitely stay here again when I return to Meknes.
