Centrally located in Longyearbyen, Basecamp Hotel is a traditional trapper's lodge-style property just 15 minutes’ drive from Longyearbyen Airport. The airport bus stops right outside. Basecamp was a fantastic way to spend the bright nights in Longyearbyen. The room was designed with a trapper's hut in mind with modern amenities and chic styling. Every inch of the property was immaculately clean. We LOVED the breakfast each day in the breakfast room. The common hangout area upstairs provided a comfortable place to hang out to have a drink or just look up at the sunny midnight sky. Reception was extremely helpful, courteous, and kind. I even rented a camera lens from a local guy and reception accepted it for me, and held it once I was done. Our stay at Basecamp was one of the most memorable of our lives and we are itching to come back.

Longyearbyen is s truly unique experience. Small enough to explore on foot with amazing opportunities to explore outside. Saw Northern Lights outside our hotel, did a great highlights tour with a real character of a guide, a day on snowmobiles, dog sledding with Svalbard Husky AS who had small groups and lovely dogs, and a snow cat trip, all brilliant experiences with interesting and knowledgeable guides who really know their stuff. Food wise, as with anywhere in Norway, food and drink is expensive, we had great food and pastries in Rabalder cafe, they do a hot lunch from 11.00-14.00 and we had amazing food in here. The hot lunch we had was fantastic, full of flavour and a good sized portion and was relatively cheap in Norwegian terms , we wished they were open in the evenings but they close at 16.30. We had our first evening meal in Svalbar pub, moose and reindeer burger and pizza, good food but nothing special, attentive staff though. The supermarket sells cans of soft drinks for about a pound which beats the cost of soft drinks in the pubs and hotels so we took those back to our rooms. Souvenirs for the kids were also cheaper in there. I highly recommend a trip here, the people are fantastic and the experiences you can have are unique.
Every one is so friendly, nice tradition that you have to take off your shoes in every hotel Great reindeer burger at Cole Miner‘s Bar & Grill Great dog tour with Green Dog Tour Best place to stay: Funken Lodge Easy to reach by the airport bus
Gateway to the Svalbard archipelago; lots of options to see wildlife, including birds, polar bears and walrus. The museum is definitely worth a visit. Lots of dining options for a small place. Enjoyed the food at Kroa.
It is catered to tourists in this northern most inhabited city. People were friendly and helpful. There are a lot of activities to do: dog sledding, snow mobile etc. The quality of shops selling arctic gear is top notch
Quaint little town with beautiful natural surroundings. Visible Northern Lights (if it's not cloudy, but it's not cloudy 24/7) and lots of REAL snow. I went here to get away from the bustling city life, and because of the polar winter, it really felt like I had reached the end of the world. 100% recommend if you want a chill, but exciting get-away. Reindeer burgers and pizza are also absolutely delicious! Still have to try some of the other local dishes, but so far, it looks promising!
to me it is a magical place, I have dreamt to go for several years, so finally i did. Beautiful breathtaking. I can never forget the moment when I landed i saw Longyearbyren from the plane, another world. The already behind us, we were entering the polar night. I had shivers. Just loved it.
Considering the remoteness of the location, we were pleasantly surprised by how good the hotel and its facilities were. The rooms are fairly simple, but well appointed, comfy beds, great block out blinds for the 24hr sun and one of the best showers we had had all trip. We loved the shoes off policy and the fact that we were supplied with slippers to wear around the hotel. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast in the hotel and the food quality was just great. Dinner in particular was amazing, we highly recommend it.
Longyearbyen
Awesome place to stay with a warm and caring host. Super clean showers shared between rooms as well as a great kitchen set-up to help bring down the costs of staying in Svalbard, a normally very pricy place to eat out every meal at restaurants. Close to the airport bus stop. The host was super flexible with check-out time as well as providing fresh baking each day for the guests. Can't say enough about this place, and would choose to stay here again over any of the other hotels in the area.
Longyearbyen
everything was perfect. Felt like guests are a family. i met new people with whom i had a lot of activities : ice caves, hiking, barbecue, … If you’re coming to Longyearbyen for northern lights, hiking and fully living the adventure, this hotel is the best option you’ll get.
Longyearbyen
Second stay here - this should say all you need to know. Great staff, and an excellent breakfast. Shared bathrooms may not be for everyone, but in Longyearbyen value should be a bigger consideration. This is a great place to stay, and if I return it will be to here.
Longyearbyen
The Lodge 2 bedroom apartment had large rooms . Checkin was easy in the almost next door Svalbard Polferen Hotel. Was given a door code by the helpful staff .
Longyearbyen
Breakfast was good and varied. Staff always kind and helpful. Still the only affordable accomodation in Longyearbyen I enjoyed the common areas
A spacious and comfortable room. Reasonable breakfast and Hotel centre of town with easy access to buses, tours etc. Friendly and helpful staff.
different and not standard run of the mill hotel. time has been spent on the design and decor which is very nicely done.
Lovely views of mountains, nice restaurants, good heating in rooms and friendly helpful staff.
without any doubt one of the best option in Longyearbyen
