Centrally located in Longyearbyen, Basecamp Hotel is a traditional trapper's lodge-style property just 15 minutes’ drive from Longyearbyen Airport. The airport bus stops right outside. Basecamp was a fantastic way to spend the bright nights in Longyearbyen. The room was designed with a trapper's hut in mind with modern amenities and chic styling. Every inch of the property was immaculately clean. We LOVED the breakfast each day in the breakfast room. The common hangout area upstairs provided a comfortable place to hang out to have a drink or just look up at the sunny midnight sky. Reception was extremely helpful, courteous, and kind. I even rented a camera lens from a local guy and reception accepted it for me, and held it once I was done. Our stay at Basecamp was one of the most memorable of our lives and we are itching to come back.

This hotel is located on the island of Spitsbergen, in Norway’s Arctic Archipelago, Svalbard. It offers stunning views, free WiFi and free afternoon treats. Access to a relaxation area is also free. Funken Lodge is a fabulous place to stay. The style is what gives you the extra feeling of being at home, feeling cosy be it in the spacious lounge and bar area or in the rooms. I have been coming to Svalbard for ten years now and wanted to finally give this hotel a try. From now on it's going to be my first choice, that's how well it compares to the rest in town. Staff are friendly and try to do their best to make your stay enjoyable. Requests were always taken care of in a friendly way and many hotels could learn here. Breakfast has a fabulous tasty selection of food and front cooking of omelettes was very much appreciated.

Gateway to the Svalbard archipelago; lots of options to see wildlife, including birds, polar bears and walrus. The museum is definitely worth a visit. Lots of dining options for a small place. Enjoyed the food at Kroa.
It is catered to tourists in this northern most inhabited city. People were friendly and helpful. There are a lot of activities to do: dog sledding, snow mobile etc. The quality of shops selling arctic gear is top notch
Quaint little town with beautiful natural surroundings. Visible Northern Lights (if it's not cloudy, but it's not cloudy 24/7) and lots of REAL snow. I went here to get away from the bustling city life, and because of the polar winter, it really felt like I had reached the end of the world. 100% recommend if you want a chill, but exciting get-away. Reindeer burgers and pizza are also absolutely delicious! Still have to try some of the other local dishes, but so far, it looks promising!
to me it is a magical place, I have dreamt to go for several years, so finally i did. Beautiful breathtaking. I can never forget the moment when I landed i saw Longyearbyren from the plane, another world. The already behind us, we were entering the polar night. I had shivers. Just loved it.
Longyearbyen was for me the start and return of an expedition. The place is neat though but has limited possibilities for walks in the direct surroundings. To see a bit more excursions are available. For a better and more complete arctic experience a tour with a ship is probably the best option and seeing Longyearbyen then as part of the trip rather than final destination. Shopping facilities (all levels) have improved over the last few years and coffee in Fruen is good!
We just had a few days in late winter. We had a nice sledge tour and a snow mobile tour on a very cold day. One or two more days would have been nicer, or maybe later in the year to be able to go by boat to Pyramiden or Barentsburg. In the end we had a great experience and we want to come back for another trip!
Longyearbyen
Awesome place to stay with a warm and caring host. Super clean showers shared between rooms as well as a great kitchen set-up to help bring down the costs of staying in Svalbard, a normally very pricy place to eat out every meal at restaurants. Close to the airport bus stop. The host was super flexible with check-out time as well as providing fresh baking each day for the guests. Can't say enough about this place, and would choose to stay here again over any of the other hotels in the area.
Longyearbyen
The staff were incredibly friendly and helped me with all my questions, plus helped me book activities. You have everything you need, including a lovely breakfast, relaxing spaces and free baggage storage. It's by far the cheapest hotel in Svalbard but the service is top quality and I'd recommend it to anyone. The walk into town takes about 20 minutes, but it's a beautiful walk, so it flies by!
Funken Lodge is really an extraordinary hotel located in beautiful Longyearbyen. We had the most wonderful time there!!! Everything was great - the hotel, the room, the service, the food, the view from the breakfast/dining room, lots of space to just hang-out next to the cozy fireplace... an absolut recommendation!! :-)
Longyearbyen
It is really a nice and interesting place, with a lot of character. The rooms are clean and functional, breakfast are very good as well as the food in the restaurant (book it, as a lot of people are coming every day, not only hotel guests). Very friendly and helpful staff.
Longyearbyen
Great place to stay! We would always prefer these Appartements over a regular hotel room. Located in the heart of Longyearbyen, cosy and well equipped. There is a big table in the living room perfect for groups to eat and chat. We will be back!
We enjoy the healthy breakfast. The hotel location is very convenient to the restaurants and supermarkets. The staff is friendly. We found the blinds in the room a great help blocking the lights to sleep at night.
Longyearbyen
Very nice hotel with clean rooms and bathrooms. Facilities were great and the restaurant is really cozy. Staff is nice and the area is beautiful although a bit far from town which in my opinion was nice.
The hotel was located in the center of the town, the closets hotel to all the bars/ shops/ restaurants. Great breakfast, very diverse and rich. The hotel team was very nice and happy to help.
Breakfast, location, staff were very good. Most tours offer a pick-up from the hotel, which is an advantage. Rooms had a good size, were clean.
die Ausstattung des Hotels is der Hammer!
