This hotel is located on the island of Spitsbergen, in Norway’s Arctic Archipelago, Svalbard. It offers stunning views, free WiFi and free afternoon treats. Access to a relaxation area is also free. Funken Lodge is a fabulous place to stay. The style is what gives you the extra feeling of being at home, feeling cosy be it in the spacious lounge and bar area or in the rooms. I have been coming to Svalbard for ten years now and wanted to finally give this hotel a try. From now on it's going to be my first choice, that's how well it compares to the rest in town. Staff are friendly and try to do their best to make your stay enjoyable. Requests were always taken care of in a friendly way and many hotels could learn here. Breakfast has a fabulous tasty selection of food and front cooking of omelettes was very much appreciated.

Gjestehuset 102 offers accommodations in Longyearbyen. Guests at this small hostel can buy snacks and drinks. You can rent bicycles, and explore the town center which is located about 1.6 mi away. The staff here are kind and knowledgeable about the place. They can recommend the best tour company depending on the activity you want and they can book these activities for you too. The hotel is located in a quiet spot about 20-minute walk from the town center. This means that you will always have a chance to burn some calories while enjoying the beautiful scenery going to town. Being away from the light pollution in town also means viewing the northern lights is easier from this place. The room was spacious and comfortable and has a window with amazing views. The friendly staff gave me ref magnets during my last day as birthday gift. Thank you! :)

It is catered to tourists in this northern most inhabited city. People were friendly and helpful. There are a lot of activities to do: dog sledding, snow mobile etc. The quality of shops selling arctic gear is top notch
Quaint little town with beautiful natural surroundings. Visible Northern Lights (if it's not cloudy, but it's not cloudy 24/7) and lots of REAL snow. I went here to get away from the bustling city life, and because of the polar winter, it really felt like I had reached the end of the world. 100% recommend if you want a chill, but exciting get-away. Reindeer burgers and pizza are also absolutely delicious! Still have to try some of the other local dishes, but so far, it looks promising!
to me it is a magical place, I have dreamt to go for several years, so finally i did. Beautiful breathtaking. I can never forget the moment when I landed i saw Longyearbyren from the plane, another world. The already behind us, we were entering the polar night. I had shivers. Just loved it.
Longyearbyen was for me the start and return of an expedition. The place is neat though but has limited possibilities for walks in the direct surroundings. To see a bit more excursions are available. For a better and more complete arctic experience a tour with a ship is probably the best option and seeing Longyearbyen then as part of the trip rather than final destination. Shopping facilities (all levels) have improved over the last few years and coffee in Fruen is good!
We just had a few days in late winter. We had a nice sledge tour and a snow mobile tour on a very cold day. One or two more days would have been nicer, or maybe later in the year to be able to go by boat to Pyramiden or Barentsburg. In the end we had a great experience and we want to come back for another trip!
Longyearbyen is very specific place. Very expensive with all outdoor activities but it's worth for to survive it at least once per life. Dog sleeding, norhen lights, wildlife and exploring the city. People are so friendly - always say "hi" to you, even if they are strangers. Bars are open 24/7! Life is going slow and with smile on the faces, even if the weather is so low - everything is working well, without any problems. Just go and feel it. You will be charmed, how beautiful world is!
Longyearbyen
Awesome place to stay with a warm and caring host. Super clean showers shared between rooms as well as a great kitchen set-up to help bring down the costs of staying in Svalbard, a normally very pricy place to eat out every meal at restaurants. Close to the airport bus stop. The host was super flexible with check-out time as well as providing fresh baking each day for the guests. Can't say enough about this place, and would choose to stay here again over any of the other hotels in the area.
The Polfararen Svalbard hotel was perfect for us. The staff were very welcoming and also advised and arranged for additional tours and sites in the area we hoped to see. You're right in the center of Longyearbyen at this hotel and can walk to all things in town. The fireplace lobby was a relaxing area to kick back and sip coffee. The included breakfast was superb! And the restaurant for dinner I would also recommend!
Since our arrival till our departure everything was at exceptional level. The staff was amazing: helpful and very pleasant. The room was very comfortable, spacious and clean. Breakfasts were awesome with a good food selection. Hotel is in the heart of Longyearbyen so you could easily get to the shop, bar or restaurant nearby. Special thanks to Gustaf and Kristine for the excellent service provided!

Great place to stay! We would always prefer these Appartements over a regular hotel room. Located in the heart of Longyearbyen, cosy and well equipped. There is a big table in the living room perfect for groups to eat and chat. We will be back!
I have been in my many hotel’s in my life, but I never seen hotel staff like here. Very helpful, nice and always smile. Fantastic breakfast, and atmosphere was amazing. The best option in Longyearbyen.

A warm welcome from very friendly and hospitable staff. The hotel is a charming and eccentric place to spend time on a rainy day. The on-site restaurant and bar were both excellent.
