Svalbard Hotell | The Vault, hotel in Longyearbyen

Located in Longyearbyen, a 12-minute walk from Svalbard Church, Svalbard Hotell | The Vault provides accommodations with free bikes, free private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace.

The location is perfect if you'd like to be in the center, close to everything. Longyearbyen is a small town with a very small downtown. The hotel is right in the middle of it. The main grocery store is just on the opposite side of the road, 2 mins walking. Every activities offer transport to the hotel, airport bus also stops at the hotel. The room had a good heating, it wasn't cold inside. Windows have block out roll curtains. Room had a mini water heater and tea, mugs and glasses were very small though. The bathroom was nice. Breakfast was included in our reservation, it was really good (srcambled egg, beans, bread, pancackes, juices, yoghurt, etc.). The lobby offers hot water with tea. Prepare with inside shoes, there is a storage at the reception where you need to take off your outside shoes/boots. I think that was very efficient.

Coal Miners’ Cabins, hotel in Longyearbyen

This hotel offers budget accommodations on the Arctic Ocean island of Svalbard. Communal facilities include a kitchen and TV lounge. Snowmobile safaris, dog sledding and glacier walks can be arranged....

small but lovely room in a former miner's barrack - the toilets/showers were spotless clean - there was a common room and a kitchen where you could cook your meals and where there was a big fridge to store your foodstuff, well organized - the breakfast buffet in the morning was a blast! - very friendly and helpful staff - location is ideal for those who want to be closer to nature and a bit outside of the city, yet in walking distance to downtown - the fact that it is very quiet and air is very pure - the arctic reindeers grassing around the accommodation

We stayed in the Apartment with Mountain View - Annex, and it was perfect. It is in a nice, quiet location with stunning views of the mountains and the harbor. The beds are comfortable and we appreciated the blackout blinds. The apartment is a less than 10 min walk down the hill. Elena is an amazing and kind host, and she made our stay special.

The city offers everything for a standard quality life. Several companies offer great tours, for true arctic experiences, accompanied by knowledged guides. The supermarket is surprisingly well stocked, even with fresh fruits and vegetables. Plenty od restaurants for every taste. And don't forget to visit the museum!

If you are active and passionate about the stunning beauty of the Arctic, Longyearbyen should be on your list. By snowmobile, skis, or even by foot, you will discover extreme landscapes, dramatic snow-covered mountains, and glaciers. In March, the colors of the sunset and twilight hours are the dream of any photographer. Pack your stay with many activities and certainly do not miss out on all the great food that the many restaurants in town have to offer.

Friendly, clean, warm, welcoming and quirky.

Friendly, clean, warm, welcoming and quirky. Excellent home cooked breakfast. Close to town. So quirky it reminded me of Banksy’s Walled Off hotel on the West Bank. Great opportunity to stay in ex-mining accommodation.

This is a very interesting fully functional Cory located in the middle of the Arctic Ocean pretty close to the North Pole. (Closer to the north pile than any other major city in the world.) Anyone can visit Svalbard and stay here as long as you like, regardless of 'nationality' / passport(s). It's great if you have money, but even if you don't you can find inexpensive food at the store (if you look hard) and there's free food left at the hostel, plus they give you free breakfast. 🙂

For somebody from South India the place can only be described as otherworldly... like going to a different planet, almost. The weather was in the minus 20 s when i visited last week and it is essential that one prepares for this if visiting in the winter. It is not exactly easy to get around in this island of 2,000 people or so. I came to my hotel in the airport bus and was picked up by the organisers of my various activities like dog sledding etc. I believe there is a taxi but am not sure it can be hailed quickly. Apart from the city centre ( which is 3 streets) other places like the church, harbour etc are a bit of a walk and one has to be prepared for that. It is impossible to walk to these places in winter in the cold and pitch dark. Vegetarian food options were available but limited. Overall, it was a memorable experience, though.

The end of the earth, or so it feels... we arrived for snow on the ground in September and below freezing the whole time. The one big shop, the Co-op, in the town is great, has everything you need, plus the only alcohol shop is part of it selling a big range, you need to show a boarding pass for your flight to buy drink though! Liked the Svalbard brewery by the harbour, their beer is in every bar in town but on a Friday you can book a space in their taproom, really good. Karlsberger pub (in the shopping centre) is worth a go too, lots of mining decor and a huge range of spirits. For unusual food, Mary-Ann's Polarrigg has a restaurant attached with (so I heard) superb food, but the bar there will serve food too, we had the home smoked tasting plate of Minke whale, bearded seal and reindeer which was fascinating. Didn't see any polar bears, which was both good and bad, it's a strange feeling to be walking around and not to be the alpha predator...

Spacious and comfortable room, washroom/WC shared by two rooms only, so that's good and cleanliness is ensured. Well equipped kitchen, lounge to chill out. It feels truly like a home away from home. Walking distance (1km) to town and the airport bus stops just across the road at Funken Lodge. Definitely a gem and i highly recommend this place.

Funken Lodge is really an extraordinary hotel located in beautiful Longyearbyen. We had the most wonderful time there!!! Everything was great - the hotel, the room, the service, the food, the view from the breakfast/dining room, lots of space to just hang-out next to the cozy fireplace... an absolut recommendation!! :-)

Breakfast is wonderful. The hotel is full of character, a real unique experience. I loved it here. The shared bathrooms are not a problem, not once was I waiting to use the toilet or shower.
