Offering a range of accommodations options with garden and estuary views, Collingwood Park Motel borders the estuary and is 3 minutes' walk from the beach. I booked while on the road from Christchurch. The host rang me a little while later to check time of arrival and which unit I was in. I arrived late and tired and when I fell into the most comfortable bed there was also a hint of lavender and I drifted off to the best sleep.
Located within a historic building, Zatori Retreat features 180-degree sea and mountain views. Guests can take in the views from their private patio or the large terrace at the property. The staff were superb. The front of house lady was awesome, she was very receptive and responsive to our needs. We had a sharer evening meal and this was brilliant, good choice of drinks, and the view to eat from from the restaurant was superb. Ideally located
Westhaven Retreat offers luxury accommodations and access to a private beach and several activities throughout the remote Golden Bay Region. This was by far our best experience along our 3 weeks NZ journey👏👏👏 The location is supper unique... yes, it’s a long drive to arrive to “haven”... but it worthwhile every moment of the trip The facility is stunning and you can feel that the design and construction were well thought-off. The retreat is the most well maintained that I’ve seen in my travels The room was the best we had along the trip and the view from the room was like being in “Haven” Monica is a lovely lady and she and her daughter welcomed and served us in the best way one could imagine The breakfast and lunch were great and the 2 dinners we attended were like in a top Michelin restaurant - the Chef deserves big 👏👏👏 I wish already to be there again
Small friendly country town, Good cafes and local tavern, food was good. Good place to stay a couple days just to relax and have access to the walks and sights out that part of the Bay. Pass though the main town of Takaka which offers lots of cafes and plenty of shopping. To get the most out of Golden Bay and all its beaches and walks and rich History you need to spend a few days there. We opted to stay Collingwood way so as to explore fully that end as we mainly explore the other end of the Bay. Will be return visitors :)
Collingwood town itself was not too impressive apart from the chocolate shop, very quaint!! The area is great for access to farewell spit, the heafy track, 1 of the best beaches in new zealand, and the bird life, best apparently in febuary. The school house had great atmosphere and food.
Collingwood is a cool little town with warm and friendly people. We stayed at Heron's Rest which was awesome, with stunning views over Golden Bay. We ate in the Old Court House which served delicious pizzas and wine. The staff there were really friendly and they made excellent wine recommendations. The building was quirky and interesting. We did the Farewell Spit Eco Tour which was a highlight of our month long holiday. It was such a great day and we saw so many birds, seals and a stunning lighthouse. We really enjoyed the hilarious commentary from the driver too.
Collingwood is a convenient launch point for nearby attractions and a reasonable place to get a decent meal and get supplies. Otherwise it has little to offer. The Collingwood Tavern meals were good value the whitebait fritters delicious. Mussel inn nearby excellent craft beers and though no one played on the Tuesday we were there, the live music had entertainment potential. The Langford store in Bainham has excellent coffee.
Didn't stay in Collingwood for long, but loved that whole area. Favourite spot Wharariki Beach, the walk there was amazing, the baby seals adorable, also loved our accommodation at Innlet Hostel/cottages. Wonderful place, thoroughly recommend
a remote area but has everything you need... it's the stunning view of Wharariki Beach, Cape Farewell, Farewell Spit and nearby beaches /lakes which made our long - drive worthwhile❤️

I loved being there in the winter. The decks and large windows made it feel spacious and open. Views are great if you're inside due to weather (one morning of my stay) Log fire was a treat to have all the time. Central to Collingwood but also a lot of other activities further afield. Staff were lovely. Warm everywhere. Facilities were excellent.

Love love loved this place! We stayed in the garden cottage for a couple of nights over new year. Perfect. A great sheltered deck, off the main road, Collingwood is small so everything is on your doorstep. 5 minute walk to the beach. Warm welcome. Clean. Comfortable. Would love to come back some day. The ideal place to relax, unwind and rest.

We loved everything about the place from location to generous interesting hosts. The rooms and bathrooms are like staying in a great hotel. I particularly marvelled at the proximity to native bush whilst being on the seashore.

Collingwood is a must-do and there’s nowhere better to stay than here. Highly recommended. Do the Farewell Spit tour and also the bay with the seals. The Courthouse is the place for wine and food!!

It’s is in the Main Street close to the Farewell Spit departure point and across the road from the local hotel. It was great the room was serviced daily.
