Most everyone I encountered were friendly and helpful. The historical tours I went on include Gorée Island and the guides were helpful and even apologetic when a toubab tourists acted a fool towards me. Riding the Gorée ferry was cool, as well. The food is amazing! I am a pescatarian but it was easy to get fish everywhere I went. Thieboudienne was my constant, both in Toubab Dialaw and in Dakar. Getting to the African Renaissance Monument has been a life-long goal!
Clean city, no dirts on the streets. Few people are fluent in English, almost everyone is French speaking. Food seems affordable. The airport is very far from the city centre, about an hour and a half. Sadanga market is the biggest shopping area, but the prices are a bit high. Ensure you bargain. Lots of beaches. Taxis are everywhere. Its like any other African city, but a bit orderly with a strong francophone presence. Poverty is apparent, but the people are friendly. It was surprising cold in March, ensure you check the weather before travelling.
Senegal is filled with little gems, you have to go out and discover a great city for authentic cultures day and night, Shopping, Beaches, discovering arts and crafts, it depends how much you want to know information is endless.
Dakar is the safest African capital that I have ever been to. We were two ladies walking on the streets and getting taxis alone and nothing close to sketchy happened. I would highly recommend it. Go to: Goree Island (worth it I swear) The rennaisance monument The Bandia reserve The markets (especially the art village) maybe fit in a few nights in Saly too
One of the prettiest and safest cities in West Africa. Senegalese pride themselves on being gracious hosts and they even have a special term in the woloff language for it - teranga ! When in Senegal you must try the local cuisine. Thiebou Djenne (fish and rice) is a standard lunch prepared and consumed all across Senegal, although my favourite is Thiebou Yapp (beef and rice). Taxis and private cars are easily available, while the adventurous can also try the minibuses called car rapides. Like any bustling city, tourists need to be careful about touts and pickpockets. They are insistent but almost never violent. A firm no should usually do the trick.
I absolutely loved Gorée island, so beautiful with such tragic history. Hire a guide to take you around they really know their stuff. I also loved the fabric district, but there was a man who followed us the whole time which detracted from the situation so don’t be afraid to say no to people who are hawkers. I could have stayed far longer, La Lagoon 1 and Beluga are lovely restaurants which I highly recommend and Hotel Jardin Savana and Rysara are lovely hotels.
The hotel is located on the corniche, offering beautiful ocean views (towards Gorée Island) from all it's rooms. It is equipped with a big pool that is ideal for swimming (50 m) as well as suitable for kids. The staff in all areas is absolutely charming, helpful and welcoming. The manager makes his round at breakfast to greet the guests personally and any request is immediately taken care of. From the location of the hotel you can either take a walk to the city center or take one of the taxis that are available at all times.
The special lunch (available only on certain days) was fantastic and the price very reasonable! It was beef, fish and some veges in peanut sauce (similar to satay sauce, but more fragrant and delicious!). The hotel manager, Ms Aicha Ndiaye was very friendly and most helpful in arranging a car and driver for my day trips to places of interest. I would definitely stay in this hotel again if I am to visit Dakar again.
Dakar
The property was clean, the staff were great, and the food was delicious! The decorations are so befitting of a Senegal travel experience. The staff made our stay inviting! However, be prepared to have water over the entire bathroom floor due to no shower doors. Showering was a tad difficult because water was everywhere. An important missing detail to a pleasurable stay!
I realized that everything was ready and right in place. The receptionist was very friendly. I had to take an early morning flight and the whittle bus transported me to the airport at 3:00 AM!!! Great facility. I will hesitate to use it again and would recommend it to any one looking for a great hotel in Dakar and close to the airport (AIBD)
Our family of four had a great time at Terrou-Bi. The entire staff (reception, restaurants, pool) was very friendly and helpful. The hotel granted us a late check out time. we had booked two adjacent rooms with a view of the sea and the rooms were spacious, the beds very comfortable and the bathrooms had everything we needed.
Hann Bel-Air, Dakar
For Senegal standards, the room was above average. Of course it was simple, but the building was new and the bed comfortable, and the price was similar to other properties. Conveniently located in between Dakar and the airport (I gained around 20 minutes by staying there instead of in the city in my last night in Senegal).
Dakar
Fann Hock is a nice residential district, There is a super nice tipical Senegal Restaurant just across the street called Chez Amina, where you can eat , also a good bar le Khorbi. The gardien Papus is excellent, and Hadi, who is doing the cleaning is super nice as well. Overall lovely people, I enjoyed staying there!
I booked this hotel for my husband as he had to stay in Dakar a couple nights. He was very happy with everything. A hotel staff even went out his way to show my husband where to go for his meeting which he was very grateful for. So thank you casa mara for a pleasant stay and making my husband comfortable
This is a very nice budget hotel in Dakar. The staff are particularly friendly. I had a lot of help from the guy in reception who helps visitors. He showed me where to draw money, where to get food and helped me to get a taxi.
The hotel is in good location in a quiet neighborhood in Ngor area. Big room, clean, and the huge bathroom is a plus. Accepted a credit card for payment.
