The house was spacious for our family of 4 (two of them teenagers), and it could fit up to 6 nicely. The kitchen was fully equipped, saving us money on eating out as we cooked at the house. It's just off a main road, but the house is well insulated and barely heard any traffic from inside. This was our first time renting a house for vacation, and I don't think I could go back. This was a great experience. Great location to New River Gorge and Summersville Lake.

The Hawks Nest Lodge offered excellent value and access to great hiking and water sports, but if you don’t like outdoor activities, you will run out of things to do fast. The restaurant in the lodge offered great views and affordabe and pretty decent meals. Prepare to drive to Fayetteville for alternate restaurants. The Cathedral Cafe is a great spot for lunch. For driving enthusiasts, the roads are a sports car challenge; a bit white knuckle driving for others.
I went to Hawks Nest in Ansted to photograph waterfalls and the mountains of West Virginia. Ansted is right in the heart of the New River and minutes away from so many attractions like the New River Gorge Bridge, Kanawha Falls, kayaking and rafting facilities, hiking and scenic drives in all directions!
Hawks Nest Lodge is a hidden gem in Ansted, WV. 20 minutes drive takes you to Fayetteville, WV home of fantastic restaurants like the Secret Sandwich Society and Pies and Pints. Bridge Brew Works in Fayetteville is also worth the drive. Great hiking trails!
We enjoyed the beautiful scenery. The towns around it have so much history to explore. I highly recommend going to the New River Gorge visitor center. They will give you a map and free CD that you follow along as you drive the Old Fayette Station Road. It was a beautiful tour with 11 pull offs to see views and learn the history of coal mining. We greatly enjoyed staying at Hawks Nest Lodge. Loved Eating at Pies and Pints and Secret Sandwich Society. Amazing waterfalls to see all around.
Love the views and isolation. So, this may not be for everyone because it is a ways from family activities. I highly recommend stopping in Fayetville, for a pizza at Pies and Pints , INCREDIBLE. Great for hiking and photography. In season famous for white water rafting
