FAQs about hotels in Chicago

Our Kind of Town

Standing proud beside Lake Michigan, Chicago is down-to-earth, friendly, and full of culture. It has outdoor art by famous artists including Chagall and Picasso, and there are some fascinating architectural works from the Art Institute of Chicago.

Home to blues and house music, Chicago has an eclectic music scene that reflects its spirit. The Windy City is also a pioneer in a variety of Americanized dishes from it's European immigrant roots like deep-dish pizza and the Chicago hot dog.

The world’s first skyscraper and Ferris wheel were erected in Chicago. The latter, on Navy Pier, is one of the Midwest’s most visited sights. Also famed is the ‘L’ transport system, whose raised trains circle The Loop, the main business district. Check out its skyline reflection in the shiny bean sculpture in huge Millennium Park.

Home of the Bulls and Bears, Chicago is a stronghold of sport and has teams playing baseball, basketball, American football and hockey, to name a few. If you get a chance, try to catch a game.

Chicago Midway and Chicago O’Hare Airport are both on the outskirts of this vast city, so make sure to leave enough time for travel from your Booking.com hotel, apartment or hostel. And all that jazz.

This was our first trip to Chicago. We were so excited.

This was our first trip to Chicago. We were so excited. We used public transportation which was outstanding. The bus drivers were very helpful with directions. We met so many nice people who gave ideas of where to go and what to see. We went to the Navy Pier. That was great. Would've liked to have stayed longer but it was getting late. I wanted to ride the ferris wheel but hubby is not fond of heights so that was a no go. The Shedd Aquarium was neat although more geared towards the younger crowd. The one main impression we had of Chicago was how clean the streets and sidewalks are. Chicago is beautiful

I stayed in the Bronzeville area, near the Police Headquarters. The Chicago skyline is clearly visible in this quiet, residential area. This trip, I enjoyed free house music at the Beach on 31st, breakfast at the Original Pancake House and dinner at Asciento's.

Chicago is an essential destination if traveling in the U.S.

Chicago is an essential destination if traveling in the U.S. It has excellent public transportation, both by the "L" and the bus. For a very large city it is just beautiful, especially at locations near the lake. The "Bean" was closed in June 2024, disappointing but hopefully available for the future. There also are wonderful cultural events--We attended a concert by an Indie band from Australia (Hollow Coves) at Lincoln Auditorium. Then there is the food--a Thai restaurant for us, one of the best meals in many years. Be prepared to do LOTS of walking even while using public transportation. Costs are high: Aquarium was $50.00 (I skipped this and just walked around the beautiful area while waiting for my traveling companion who went in). DO NOT MISS CHICAGO AND STAY AS MANY DAYS AS POSSIBLE.

If you're ever in Chicago, you must stay at the London House Hotel as it's a beautiful hotel. Very close to Navy Pier, which is a must, Chicago theater, Dinner sunset cruise, architectural cruise and the double decker tour bus. We went to the Science and Technology Museum, the Art...

We went to the Science and Technology Museum, the Art Institute, and the Field Museum. All were expensive to get into, but the Science and Technology museum nickel and dimed you (to the tune of $17-19) for each special exhibit (i.e., 007, the U boat), and in my opinion was too expensive. If you want to go to museums, go to Washington DC. The museum is free, and there are more of them. We did the architecture tour. Most of the buildings are newer (post-2000). I was hoping to hear more about the historical buildings, but it was a nice tour. We also went to Navy Pier - there as a good band playing on Sunday evening. I hit the record for how much I have ever paid for a meal. I don't need to go back to Chicago.

I took the 45 minute architecture cruise. As a disabled person, I found that the dock access for disabled people was virtually unmarked, so I had to ask people along the way and it took me three times as long as it would have if there were signs directing disabled people to the dock

Location can't be better, right next to where the river boat tours start, next door to the best roof top bar in Chicago and next to Michigan ave which has all the best shops! There are ice machines and vending machines in the hotel as well as a coffee station on the second floor (I only found that on my second and last day :-( would have been nice to know before). Easy enough to get to and from the airport using the blue line - it cost $3 vs Uber which was around $60-120 depending on the time of day.

Excellent location right outside the Loop in downtown Chicago and a quick walk to the train. The room wasn't cheap but it was competitively priced for the area. Also, we saved a lot on transit because we could take the train where we needed to go. The room was big, clean, and surprisingly quiet. The bed was quite comfortable.
