Freehand Chicago, hotel in Chicago

Featuring a restaurant, Freehand Chicago is located in Chicago's River North neighborhood. Free WiFi access is available.

It was a fantastic value! Only 3 blocks from the Magnificent Michigan Mile. It is in the heart of what's happening! Just 3 blocks north of the river and only about 7 or 8 blocks from Lake Michigan. Plenty of very nice bars, restaurants and nightclubs within a 1/2 mile. The price was VERY REASONABLE. Check-in was VERY PLEASANT. D.W. our receptionist was so cordial and had an engaging smile. The room was comfortable (not big) but nice for one person. Bathroom was big and spacious. The vibe was eclectic. The lobby had plenty of nice couches, lounge chairs and awesome for a relaxing conversation with a great bar. Bottom line...Great price for a nice place in a great location. PLUS...they offered a link for a great price for parking across the street and over one block.

The location on Diversy is fantastic. There are loads of sites and restaurants/entertainment within a one-mile radius. The hotel itself has a funky cool vibe in the common areas. The front desk staff were mostly pleasant. We arrived two hours before check-in and were able to get into our room. We were also offered another room type (switching from a king to two double beds) when the staffer noticed I was traveling with my teen daughter. OH, it was great to have a Nespresso machine in the room!

FAQs about hotels in Chicago

Our Kind of Town

Standing proud beside Lake Michigan, Chicago is down-to-earth, friendly, and full of culture. It has outdoor art by famous artists including Chagall and Picasso, and there are some fascinating architectural works from the Art Institute of Chicago.

Home to blues and house music, Chicago has an eclectic music scene that reflects its spirit. The Windy City is also a pioneer in a variety of Americanized dishes from it's European immigrant roots like deep-dish pizza and the Chicago hot dog.

The world’s first skyscraper and Ferris wheel were erected in Chicago. The latter, on Navy Pier, is one of the Midwest’s most visited sights. Also famed is the ‘L’ transport system, whose raised trains circle The Loop, the main business district. Check out its skyline reflection in the shiny bean sculpture in huge Millennium Park.

Home of the Bulls and Bears, Chicago is a stronghold of sport and has teams playing baseball, basketball, American football and hockey, to name a few. If you get a chance, try to catch a game.

Chicago Midway and Chicago O’Hare Airport are both on the outskirts of this vast city, so make sure to leave enough time for travel from your Booking.com hotel, apartment or hostel. And all that jazz.

    Been to Chicago many times.

Been to Chicago many times. Lake Michigan, the parks, Wrigleyville and many other nice areas. One area that I checked out this time was the riverwalk. Nice day to walk along the river, check out the boats and all of the restaurants, bars and sitting areas. As far as food, whatever your tastebuds are yearning for you can find.

I love Chicago! There is so much to see and do there. There is so much variety of price too. You can stay and do things relatively inexpensively, or you can spend a little more and have an equally good (but different) experience. One thing we did this time was take the architectural boat tour by Shoreline Sightseeing and LOVED it! It was an excellent tour and a great way to experience Chicago. I also love that so many things are accessible by walking and the central areas of downtown feel so safe (even at night).

Chicago is a truly well planned and beautiful, beautiful city in everyway. It is well worth visiting. It has no shortage of great restaurants, clubs, shopping facilities, public transit and attractions in every area of the central core or loop and other areas too. I highly recommend the places my husband and I visited. All worth doing, seeing and experiencing: The Griffon Museum of Science and Industry-----worth paying a little extra for the extra exhibits. In our case the German U-Boat info and tour and James Bond 007 exhibit showing all the cars used, jet ski, flight pack, boat used etc. and how all these things used real scientific engineering and also let to futuristic scientific developments. The Museum of Illusions ------ very interesting indeed and great for photo shots that are illusions as well. The Wellenda Co. Sunset Cruise---- it took two hours from the River Walk, 400 Michigan Ave. out onto Lake Michigan and Wednesdays and Saturdays there are great fireworks over the lake. The Ride and Walk Crimes and the Mob tour bus----- Very informative and interesting. Hope on and Off Big Bus ----- one day is enough to get your bearing of the city first. Blue Chicago ---- great Chicago Blues and Bar, the best club for blues on Grand street and West Ohio Street. $15-$20 entry fee. They open at 8:00 pm Wednesday - Saturdays If you find a Deli in any neighbourhood they are the best foods and best price values. Go up to the observation tower in the highest building The Willis Tower Building ( the former Sears Tower Building) magnificent views of all of Chicago and shorelines. All the River Walk is recommended to walk it all. The same with as much of the Lake Michigan Waterfront parks especially seeing the Clarence Buckingham Memorial Fountain. Take in a Cubs Game at Wrigley Stadium, it is exciting if you like baseball

We loved going on the boat tour of the river.

We loved going on the boat tour of the river. Our guide Ben was just the best. I wish I could name the line we used, but my husband booked that trip. Close to Wrigley Building? It was our anniversary, and we were treated like Royalty at Pierrot Gourmet. One of our favorite restaurants. They really treated us with a great deal of joy and honor. When we told him it was our anniversary, he brought us a sweet dessert and some champagne. It was so special. Went to Francesca's on Chestnut the next night for our actual anniversary meal. Had great food and service previously, but this time, the waiter made us feel like cattle, and the food was just so-so.

Chicago is an incredible city, the innovative evolution of rebuilding Chicago, from wood buildings after their great fire to brick builds then early tall buildings to the incredibly high and stable skyscrapers you see today. Through each of these stages, the architects and builders have developed land mark innovative solutions that have been incorporated on a global basis. The Big Red Tour Bus is an excellent solution in order to access all key areas in the city at a leisurely pace. There was no real downside to Chicago except the significant cost to access some key tourist sites. There are plenty of eateries, so spoilt for choice here. A very enjoyable city to visit.

Great boutique hotel in Downtown Chicago, just 5 min walk from the Navi Pier and the beach, as well as the Magnificent Mile with all its skyscrapers, bars and restaurants. The beds are comfy, the staff are friendly and helpful, it's very clean, the AC is working. Keep in mind as it's central location, the streets are loud and you can hear the emergency services sirens in the rooms, if you're a light sleeper.

The hotel is in a very good location, perfect for all activities in downtown Chicago. The room was nice and clean, and I did not hear the much sound from the street with the window closed. However, the door to the corridor did not block any noise, and one of the other doors made a kind of squeaking sound whenever opened or closed, often during the late evening, which was annoying.
