Lexington offers so much, we have not been here for thirty years and wondered why have we waited so long to come back. A return visit will be in our near future. We went to some bourbon trail stops and spent the day at Keenland for some horse racing. We also ventured to Red River Gorge for some hiking. So much to do and enjoy in Lexington.

We came to enjoy the fall colors and the beauty of the area.
We came to enjoy the fall colors and the beauty of the area. We weren’t disappointed! So beautiful touring around the surrounding country areas. And the city offered fun and great food. (Try Carsons on E. Main! You get great food!!! And the drinks aren’t watered down either.)
If you’re into it, make sure you enjoy a day at Keeneland race track. The facility is amazing… even when it’s not holding the races. And take a tour with Thoroughbred Heritage Tours. ( The pictures you see are mostly from Keeneland. It was exercise time in the morning. And of one of the farms where they raise the horses for racing. They also might take you to the retirement farm for champions. ) They pick you up right at the front door of the Embassy Suites off of Newton Pike. You’ll see so much… it’s hard to explain how much. But it was a definite highlight of our trip. Three hours+ and we would have liked to have continued and seen more and more. And yes, we did go back another day to take in a race… WOW!!!

Lexington Kentucky, in the heart of bluegrass country is a great destination. For those of us lucky enough to go to school there, it is always good to be back. For those of you who have not visited, a vibrant college town, Kentucky bourbon trails, future derby champions running through beautiful horse farms, and scenery like no other await you. A great restaurant scene is also emerging, along with the classics we always want to visit when we are lucky enough to be back in Lex.

WE didn't spend much time in Lexington itself, but it was a good place to stay for our main visits to the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum up the road. It is beautiful country and we didn't realize it was the horse capital of the US with 150 horse farms in the county. Driving the area was beautiful. The only negative is getting round Lexington was not easy because the two main freeways I-75 from Knoxville and I-65 from Nashville are on opposite sides of the city with no freeway loop around the city. Therefore, coming from I-65 we had to go on several smaller highways and there was always a 2 mile backup of trucks going from one freeway to another since our hotel was just off I-75.

They have some really cute coffee shops downtown if you like coffee, but they don't have a lot of places to go for shopping. In fact, I don't remember seeing any at all. There is a shopping mall not too far from downtown if you want to shop. This town seemed more like a college town rather than a tourist town. There was one attraction that was about a half hour away from Lexington in Versailles called the Bluegrass Railroad Museum, and you can take a train ride, but only on Saturdays. Overall, our family didn't find much to do in Lexington, most of our excursions were outside of Lexington. I would recommend Bowling Green, KY to other travelers over Lexington.

The area was beautiful and we enjoyed our tour of the horse farms thoroughly. We weren't in the area long enough to do much but enjoyed driving around the countryside and seeing the beautiful farm land interspersed with residential. Good eats at Ramses restaurant and Winchells. Both were recommended by locals and they didn't disappoint.

The room was awesome. So modern and stylish. Very clean and comfy. Right off the highway. Walking distance to Country Barrel. Great hot breakfast in a lovely, clean dining room. Best breakfast in all the hotels we visited on vacation. Computer and printer available. Snack store in lobby. Exercise Room.
Overall great Lexington experience.. RAILBIRD music festival was on , so there was alot of people in town.. 40-60000.
Vibe in city was top rate and no issue. Everyone was happy and playful. NO issues or incidents over drunken stupidity.
Went for the tyler childers concert at rupp. The breezeway that connects rupp to the hotel was amazing. Didn't have to get out in the cold weather at all.
