The initial smell of horse poop gets in your nostrils when you first arrive in town but you get use to it. We went in the beginning of August and stayed 2.5 days which was plenty of time to explore and relax. Weather was beautiful. If you have a bike I would advice bringing your own if you want to save money. Try stopping by Kilwins Fudge shop and picking up their fresh fudge and caramel apples. Overall, wonderful experience of the island. I would definitely return and recommend others to go.
Wonderful place to go to step back in time. It’s nice to stay over night for when it quiets down after most of the day time travelers leave. There are fun places to explore and things to see. It was fun taking a taxi with our small children to our destinations.
Our trip was in mid August. We arrived on the island by 11am on a Sunday, stayed overnight and departed by 1pm on Monday. The stores were open until later in the evening Sunday. We had time to tour the Fort and several museums. We took the carriage tour of the island, as well--booking that at the same time we booked the ferry passage and got a discount. We didn't rent bicycles--we chose to walk. The gardens were amazing and the museums and historic buildings very accessible. We didn't feel rushed and enjoyed several meals during our short stay. You can see quite a bit of the island with just one overnight visit. Highly recommend and we will consider coming back to see the fall leaves or the June lilac festival. The weather was great--light long into the evening and no mosquitos!
Biking the trail system in the forest was quiet, peaceful and beautiful. I liked exploring the woods and the points of interest along M-185 and bike roads. The main area of town is overcrowded and overpriced. There is not much variety for food on the island. Overpriced mediocre foods. Scenery of Lake Huron is wonderful and the ferry ride was fun. The Kingston Kitchen Jamaican restaurant is delicious; I would eat there again! Friendly hospitality from hostess and Andrew our server was pleasant and very helpful.
It was great to be transported back to the late 19th century for a few days. Weather during our stay was great, We had a great time, biking, trekking and horse back riding. Great choices for food and drinks and of course the endless options for fudge! Bike rentals and horse rides were somewhat expensive.
Lots of history and charm! loved having no cars on the island, made it very relaxing and quiet! The forts were interesting to learn about! There is a beautiful view no matter where you go. Enjoyed all the biking, horses and walking around town! There are plenty of restaurants and shops. Would love to go during the summer, the water is beautiful and crystal clear! The fall was lovely for foliage and the weather was perfect for walking and biking. Need a light coat!
This is personally my favorite hotel on the island. It is clean quaint and has numerous amenities. Their main restaurant is the best on the island.
