Torrey is a small town in central Utah. It is 10 miles west of Capitol Reef National Park. There are not many facilities to accommodate the ever growing number of visitors. Unfortunately, prices for lodging, food, camping and services keep rising at a faster rate than inflation. The attraction is the nation park and BLM recreation lands, such as Grand Staircase- Escalante National Monument, and the scenery. The restaurants, and now food trucks, charge above average prices for average food. The best value in town is the Chuckwagon Deli and Grocery Store.
For those who live within 3-4 hours from Torrey, this is a great weekend get-away. Capital Reef is very understated. Most travelers end up in Zion or Bryce Canyon. Capital Reef has fabulous scenery and vistas. The sunsets, sunrises and the stars at Promontory will be forever stamped in my mind. Capital Reef is on the national night sky list and you can see why when you visit. This is an amazing park, has trails for all levels of hiking, petroglyph's right off the road. In addition, it is the gateway to Goblin Valley, Bryce Canyon and Canyonlands and hop on over via 70 to Moab.
Torrey is only about 10 miles from Capital Reef NP so it is close. It had enough food options along with a nice little grocery/deli/bakery store for supplies. You are only in Torrey for Capital Reef NP.
The main reason to stay here is because of its location -- Torrey is roughly midway between Salt Lake and Zion (about 3 hours' drive to each). It is a huge complex with motel rooms, cabins, teepees and Conestoga wagons; a pool, fire pits, a restaurant and probably other things -- good for families, less so for travelers who want a quiet destination.
Great place to stay with friendly staff. Rooms very clean. Microwave, fridge, hair dryer, iron and board. Indoor pool spa was nice after a long day of exploring capital reef just a beautifully area in our country.
Torrey is a lovely little farming community. It has several hotels due to its proximity to Capitol Reef. Bryce Canyon is a couples hours away & the Aquarius Plateau is just up the road. We especially enjoyed our dinner at "Hunt And Gather". Make reservations ahead for any of the restaurants, as the number of tourists seems to exceed available tables currently.
Torrey
This "resort" is located at a breathtakingly beautiful and very quiet spot outside of tiny Torrey and a few miles from Capitol Reef NP. It is a rather large resort that offers unique Tipis and Wagons for lodging as well a nice new cabins. It also offers motel-type lodgings. There is a newer motel building as well as two older motel buildings. Torrey offers a little jewel of a restaurant -- Hunt and Gather -- which provided us with a surprisingly excellent meal.
it’s a large property with beautiful surroundings, very peaceful, loved the animals on the farm, the staff were very friendly, great food/ snack selection in the common area/kitchen, room was very large, very nice modern bathroom, the town of Torrey had great restaurants and surrounding area had great hikes.
