At Ali's Underground Studio, Coober Pedy, you will enjoy a unique experience of staying underground, with the choice of sleeping in a queen-sized bed dug into the wall or in the open plan area of the studio. Ali's Underground Studio, self-contained studio has a fully equipped kitchen with a microwave and cooktop. Towels and bed linen are provided and there is a private bathroom with a small bath. Guests can sit above ground in the evenings to star gaze and chat.

Staying in Ali's Underground gives you a chance to tick this amazing experience off your Bucket List! Our guests have rated us highly for all aspects over a 2 year period. Totally relax in the silence and majesty of the outback! With natural rock walls with many unique features, this Studio stands out from the rest. Please note that all beds are in the same space as the living area. As a fully self-contained studio, you will relax in a modern, clean yet full-of-character dugout - an underground home. Live like the locals do! Temperatures all year around only vary underground from between 22-26 degrees, but in really hot summers, air con is provided to get the air circulating and also refresh you when coming in from the heat. All linen is provided. Washing powder is provided for the washing machine. Dry your clothes inside on a clothes' airer, or in the garage using pegs provided. With your personal 4 digit KeyCode, you can check in at any time 24/7 to this secure, peaceful and private spot with 180degree views out to the iconic BreakAways. All that's left to do is to drive safely and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime. Thanks for choosing Ali's Underground.
After living 8 wonderful years in this amazing community of Coober Pedy, hubby and I have now stopped paid work and are Happy Wanderers in our caravan...enjoying the great outdoors! We love to travel too. Our fabulous cleaners live in our dugout next door to Ali's Underground. I enjoy doing all the fun stuff of relating to bookings and guests' questions so please phone me should you have any queries. I loved taking photos of the unique features of this region. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised by your adventure to Coober Pedy. Can I encourage you to stay at least 2 nights to give yourself time to relax from the long drive up and experience this unique place for at least one full day? If you provide me with your personal email, I will send you a 2-page Tourist Tips sheet I've created to support you in fitting the most in while you visit...I know you'll thank me once you take time to explore this
Coober Pedy is the opal capital of the world, with an amazing lunar landscape, an underground lifestyle and fascinating natural history. Free Underground museums/displays are found at the Desert Cave and Umoona Museum, both in the main street. Opal shops abound on both sides of Hutchison Street and each as very different. A MUST is a visit to the Serbian Church - make sure to switch the lights on at the front to the left of the stained glass + venture upstairs to find another carving in the wall past the baptismal and get a stunning view back down on the carvings at the front. Ali's Underground is right above the Catacomb Church. Visit 24/7 and go right up to the wooden cross and 'look up' to see how far underground you actually are! These, and the Catholic Church never. close. A drive out to the beautiful Kanku-BreakAway Park is best in the mornings by heading (have the sun on your back for best views) towards Oodnadatta then turning left through the BreakAways and along the Dog Fence. The second lookout, just down a track to the right of the big first one, will take your breath away. If you're heading north afterwards, keep driving west to the Stuart Highway.
