The original inhabitants were the Tharawal and Gundungurra people. Another group in the area were known as the Cubbitch-barta, the name coming from words for white pipe clay. The Hermitage, a 250-acre heritage property bought by Eugene Chuang in 2010, had no horse facilities, just a hay shed and a few buildings. Originally bought as a retirement spot for racehorses, it's now a top-notch farm with advanced facilities for animals and guests, with Chuang ensuring it prioritizes the welfare of its animals and community. The Picton Botanic Gardens, a local favorite near Picton's main shopping area. It offers a great spot for walks, picnics, or relaxation.
