Painswick Rococo Gardens, a unique and a fanciful pleasure garden designed in the 1740s, is one of the Cotswolds best kept secrets. Visitors can roam free and discover its magical follies, while taking in the stunning Cotswold countryside views. Chavenage House in Tetbury is an Elizabethan house, virtually unchanged for 400 years and often used as a film production location. In fact, it was used as 'Trenwith', the Poldark family pile in the popular BBC historical drama series. Discover Britain's Roman past at Chedworth Roman Villa. While most of the villa is outside, there is also a museum, shop and café. You are also welcome to bring your own picnic for those sunny day trips. Get closer to nature at Slimbridge Wetlands Centre. Run by the Wetlands and Wildfowl Trust, originally set up by Olympic Gold medallist Peter Scott, son of Captain Scott of the Antarctic, who passed down his love of natural history.
