They really did me a solid there! So, yeah, if you want to have the opportunity to interact with people who have a true sense of hospitality and community and are looking to hear about the city from the perspective of people who live there, you cannot go wrong with Kokonoe Michiya. Plus, it's close to what turned out to be my favorite part of the city; the northernmost areas.

They are super friendly and make your stay so special. The food that we were served was the best that we have eaten in our 3 weeks of traveling in Japan. As well as being very tasty they were keen to help you understand what we were eating and traditions behind it. It is just opposite the ferry terminal. Once the tourists had left the island we could wander the streets in peace and quiet and see the shrine beautifully lit at night. We would highly recommend staying g the night here rather than a day trip from Hiroshima.
