Developed during the reign of Philip II, Pamplona’s citadel is one of the best examples of military architecture during the Spanish Renaissance. The pentagon-shaped fortification was designed so that its inhabitants could fend off an attack from all angles. Although now only three of the five original bastions remain, the Ciudadela is a well-used public park and the site of many cultural events throughout the year.
