We went in November so I'm not sure if maybe they don't have lights at night during the colder months but we were bummed when we went at night and couldn't really see anything. Go during the day to see the full affect!
This place is simply too overcrowded with street peddlers and tourists. It is hard to take a decent photos. Nevertheless, it is pretty lively and vibrant. Take some time to admire the artworks of the local artists as they nimbly sketch the beautiful views from Ponte Vecchio.
Don't miss the WWII history on the Florentine bridges. The Ponte Vecchio was the only one left standing, and there's a market near the middle of the bridge acknowledging one of those responsible for helping to preserve the Ponte Vecchio. It's an odd feeling to know you are standing where troops retreated and others followed. I am so grateful it was spared.
The bridge itself looks much better from the spot along the river, as standing on the bridge is quite tiring experience - endless crowds, jewellery shops everywhere and some gypsy people following you around, and stealing money from the fountain... All in all, except the jewellery shops which attract too many people, it is a beautifully kept piece of medieval architecture.
Awesome in its architectural, historical-ness, but so touristy. It's all about jewellery, folks. Wish it was mostly set up as a sort of museum to life back in the days when the Medici's ruled. Sure, have a few mosaic/inlay shops or someone who has the old ways of making jewellery, but right now it's all mammon.
The hotel had a lovely decor with fresco on the walls and ceiling with a restored palazzo converted to a hotel. The room also had modern bathroom with a shower and a bathtub. The room was large for family of four - two adults and two teenagers. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good, even though there was not much in terms of variety, but it was enough to get us all going in the morning. It is very close to Ponte Vecchio and other Florence attractions. We walked to all the attractions in town.
A beautiful hotel with a view of the the Ponte Vecchio Bridge. The staff was so helpful, immediately making reservations for us at the famous sites. We got upgraded for free with a view of the Arno River and the bridge. We booked a room which included breakfast. The breakfast buffet was a feast and we enjoyed sitting in the room at the back with a view of the courtyard. The Foody Restaurant adjacent to the hotel was reasonably priced for drinks and food. We ate there 2 nights in a row. I highly recommend this hotel.
The hotel is on the third floor of a historical building and has a character and ambiance. It is right on Piazza Santo Spirito in Oltorarno, a very interesting area. There are many good restaurants and it is short lovely walk to Ponte Vecchio. The staff is friendly, speak good English and helpful. They offered 10% discount if we paid cash, which was nice.
The hotel is in a great location very close to the Duomo. It is located on a very upscale street. From the hotel we could easily walk to all the famous places in Florence including the Ufizzi Gallery, the Ponte Vecchio and the Pitti Palace. No question, we would stay there again. The buffet breakfast offered a great many delicious choices.
The apartment owner, Eleonora, was very accommodating and helpful. The apartment was very clean, the kitchen was fully equipped and the location (near the Ponte Vecchio) was excellent. Highly recommend this place for your trip to Florence!
Lovely clean apartment, perfectly situated just a stones thrown from the Ponte Vecchio bridge and a short walk to some fabulous restaurants. Perfect for couples looking for a short stay in the beautiful city of Florence.
Fantastic location right at the Ponte Vecchio bridge. Incredible views from the terrace restaurant. Nice, clean hotel with friendly desk staff.
Either climb up to Piazza Michelangelo to watch the sun set over the whole city or walk to Ponte Vecchio and watch the sunset over the water and other bridges.
Taxi to Piazza Michelangelo, walk back down over Ponte Vecchio and through the historical quarter passing La Duomo. Fantastico!
Ignore the tourist traps, walk over the Ponte Vecchio to the old quarter you'll find amazing restaurants and pizza. Cheap.
It is full of high end shops and you only need to visit the Ponte Vecchio with its end to end jewellery outlets to do that!!
