The hotel is situated next to the beach. There is no street between the hotel and the beach. The location is very quiet. The very large room is well equipped. The room has a balcony with two chairs and a table. From there you have a wonderful view. Large bathroom with good shower and good quality towels. Very comfortable bed with good quality bed linen and pillows. Good aircon. Good lightning. Excellent breakfast buffet with a huge variety of food, fruits, juices and specialities served in a nice room with a view to the sea. Friendly and helpful staff. Strong WiFi everywhere in the hotel. The hotel is excellent value for money Next time in São Luis we will definitely stay there again.

A new, clean, lovely hotel. The rooms are nice, bed is comfortable and on the roof you have a nice and relaxing sitting area. The owner and his son are lovely people, trying to help and accomodate your needs. It is in a quiet part of town. There is a bus stop just outside the building, but we used Uber - so distance from downtown was not an issue. Breakfast is served in your room if you wish (extra) and there are basic cooking and fridge facilities. Recommended.

Great choice in Santo Amaro considering price and value for money. We arrived late evening and left early so didn’t stay long but for us it was a perfect choice. Nice simple clean room set in a lovely garden and the restaurant had very nice breakfast, beautiful view of a lake and very kind and willing staff.

The room was immaculate, air conditioned, and very clean and beautiful to stay in. The bathroom with plants and a big shower head was amazing and all aspects of the pousada were thought out with true care in their design. The bed was very comfortable and the spa was a perfect place to sit and enjoy a beer on a hot day. Breakfast needs to be talked about: the pão de queijo was unbelievable and the omelette might be one of the best I’ve had. The offer alternative milk options, and snacks you can take with you when touring the dunes, which we thought was a nice touch. Friends who stayed nearby came over to drink with us at the bar on several afternoons, and we couldn’t get enough of Franz and Katarina’s caipirinhas and company. Truly one of the highlights of our trip was meeting Franz and Katarina, they are amazing hosts and we loved that they sat and drank with us and talked to us about the local history of Maranhão. They were more than helpful, taking us where ever we needed to go on quad bikes (the importance of this in Atins needs to be said) and recommended us fantastic options for food and activities. The pousada amenities are fantastic, with even a basic gym, this place has everything you need to enjoy a stay. We would stay here again, and will recommend this place to everyone who is looking to head to Atins. Thanks Franz and Katarina!

The building is really nice made of concrete and exotic wood with open shared spaces at every floor. We had the large room for the 4 of us. Beds were super confortable, large connected tv, efficient AC. Location is very close to the beach and a couple of good restaurants which is nice as it’s hard to walk in the very soft sand of Atins streets and people mostly move around in 4x4 or ATV. We loved the simple food provided by the property. Employees were super nice and helpful with one of them speaking excellent English. They’ll answer all your questions.

Highly recommend. The owners are a beautiful couple who welcomed us into their home. They were able to assist and book all our tours, including the scenic flight. There was always delicious cake and coffee available. On our check-out, we had to leave at 5am and the owner got up to make sure we had coffee and cake before we left (even though breakfast didn’t start until 7am).

Really nice room, the bed was soooo comfy!! The food was unreal and the views from the room and from the restaurant were amazing. Staff were brilliant, maintenance guy came and sorted out an issue with our safe straight away he was great. Reception was super nice and friendly, couldn’t fault it!

I was very disappointed by the run-down state of the historical quarter; it has a lot of potential but no restoration is being done at all. Streets are dirty and smelly and poverty omnipresent. I heard no reggae at all... and Sé as well as the reggae museum are being redone - no visits possible 😔

It’s a small Poor little town.

It’s a small Poor little town. The people that own business there are very unprepared for tourism. The food takes to long about 1 hour to be served and is not for the fact the places are packed with people it’s the culture and nature of the people there. Things are really over priced for the quality. The people are honest and you feel secure walking around the town. Barrerias Mayor have to work on infrastructure and hospitality.

We had a great time in Atins and would definitely recommend...

We had a great time in Atins and would definitely recommend it--though next time, I would come in May or June, when there are plenty of pools on the dunes but before the crowds arrive in July. Do be aware that the ONLY way to get to Atins from Barreirinhas is by boat, ATV, or 4x4. All the roads are sand--so I definitely recommend renting an ATV while you are there. It was one of the highlights of our trip!

Every base in Lencois Maranhenses is special for different...

Every base in Lencois Maranhenses is special for different reasons. But Santo Amaro has the best views of the national park in my opnion. It was really special doing the tours from there and understanding how big this national park is. The town itself is very simple, but cute. We were lucky to be there during the Festa Junina.

I would not have stayed in Sao Luis if I had had the choice.

I would not have stayed in Sao Luis if I had had the choice. We stayed one nights in the historic center on arrival. Absolutely beautiful place but very uncomfortable hotels and few places for tourists. A 1h walking visit is probably enough. We stayed another night on the way back from a trek into Lencois national park on the beachfront. More confortable but nothing really interesting for foreign tourists. There is potential to develop this city into something attractive for tourists but it’s not yet enough to justify a stay.

From Barreirinhas, you can easily enjoy all the region’s main tours, including trips to the Lençóis Maranhenses dunes, Atins, and Santo Amaro. You can also experience the exciting river float experience, visit local villages to discover the region’s culture, watch traditional handicrafts being made, and see how cassava flour is produced. But the best part is the thrilling off-road 4x4 journey itself, crossing flooded areas, rolling sand hills, and charming villages scattered along the way.

Cool place, relaxing atmosphere, friendly people. Muita Paz arranged not only the transfer from Sao Luis airport, but also 4x4 truck tour, horseback ride, quadricycle ride, etc. All the tours are totally worth taking

super close to the park entrance, very close to some favored/popular lagoons. we went during October off season but there was still a couple lagoons with surprising depths of water to them. If I ever find myself in Brazil again, I'll shoot for peak season.

Barreirinhas improved since 2022, however the city is really ugly. High season everything was overpriced. You do get whatever you need, but will pay top dollars for poor quality stuff. Food was ok, everywhere but very expensive. taxis were super priced . And the city is not a walkable city. Dirty and service, for such a touristic area is very poor. However , the Park is so beautiful that is worthy the pain of the city. People are very sweet , and kind, but not properly trained.
