United KingdomWe were blown away by the room when we arrived- we stayed in one of the Tiki houses and the veranda with a hammock to sit outside without getting bitten my mosquitos! The room itself was beautifully furnished which made for a lovely romantic stay.
The pools were also great, the moment we arrived after a hot and sticky journey- a dip in the pool was exactly what we needed!
Great location too for fabulous restaurants/bars and of course the Cahal Pech ruins which are next door

GermanyThe staff were incredibly friendly. I was bitten by a stray dog, and they took me to the hospital immediately that same night. Over the following days, they also accompanied me to the hospital for further medical appointments and waited for me there. On top of that, everything was very clean and everyone was extremely attentive and helpful.

Here’s a polished and engaging travel review for Banana Bank Lodge:
A True Gem of Hospitality and Community
My stay at Banana Bank Lodge was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warmth and genuine care. The staff couldn’t do enough for me—attentive, kind, and always ready to assist. Their dedication to guest satisfaction truly sets this place apart.
What makes Banana Bank Lodge extraordinary isn’t just its breathtaking surroundings or the comfort it offers, but the passion and heart that go into every aspect of it. The owner is a true gentleman, going above and beyond to share the incredible history of the lodge and the meaningful work he and his wife have dedicated themselves to. This is far more than just a lodge or farm; it’s a living testament to their deep-rooted commitment to the land, the people, and the culture.
Their philosophy is evident in every detail—from their respect for nature to their efforts in uplifting the local community. They don’t just run a business; they are actively making a positive impact wherever possible. It’s a shining example of how tourism can be a force for good, blending sustainability, hospitality, and cultural enrichment.
Thank you, Banana Bank Lodge, for an unforgettable experience. I left not just with wonderful memories but with deep admiration for what you stand for. If you’re looking for a stay that’s more than just a vacation—a place that truly touches the heart—this is it.
Highly recommended!

Everything. It was flawless. Understated elegance and the highest quality abound. The villa was vast, the private plunge pool was great, the food in both restaurants and the pizza place was really good.
It was a privilege to eat wonderful food whilst immersed in nature.
The trails, rope bridges, etc were superb.
The people were, without exception, courteous, friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable.

We loved everything about this place! It is an oasis and a little slice of heaven after 3 days in dusty San Ignacio. The staff bent over backwards to make our stay wonderful, the swimming pool is incredible, dinner was absolutely delicious, and we ate it on the veranda overlooking the Belize River. What's not to like? It was amazing. We only wish we could have stayed longer.

The food was made to order and very good. Staff very friendly and attentive. The coffee, Garlic Tea and Ginger tea very good. Chena, the owner, sorry if I misspelled her name is so personable, she baked a chocolate cake for my birthday and made it Vegan so one of my daughters could eat it. It was yummy!

Vanilla Hills Lodge is absolutely beautiful. The food is definitely a big highlight. We were there for Christmas and enjoyed the 5 course meal prepared by the owner, chef, and staff.
I highly recommend Vanilla Hills for a peaceful retreat while touring all that the region has to offer.

The people there were so incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile. I loved experiencing some of the local traditions and celebrations that were happening while I was there. Even though my Kriol is not fluent, I managed to get by and learn a few new phrases, which was fun And the food? Oh my goodness, it was absolutely delicious with so many unique flavors. The scenery was breathtaking too, with lush greenery and amazing natural wonders to explore.

it seems to have many good restaurants. I had great tacos at 822 Tavern (twice) once on another visit. The Garage was another good place to try.
Didn't find a lot to do in town but, did get out into the area for some hikes.

Its a great base for many of the outdoors tours, which should be taken advantage of, but if you don't have a tour booked for an activity, there's nothing to do in the town itself besides the iguana sanctuary or chocolate tour. Recommend 3-4 days. We stayed 5 and it was a day too much.
ATM cave is a must, as well as xunantunich and a day trip to Tikal if time.

Stayed for 6 nights total: 2 in San Ignacio, 1 at Rainforest Inn on Butterfly Highway, and 3 at the beach in Hopkins. The Rainforest was awesome and we did some cave exploring on tours. My husband and I enjoyed the cave tube float and our friends loved the ATM cave. Of course there are a number of Mayan ruins to explore without having to cross into Guatemala. Belize is a small country but from the Cays to Belmopan city and beach areas the culture is varied. The Garifuna culture around Hopkins is quite interesting and different from San Ignacio, which is more Mayan.

San Ignacio is the ideal starting point for tours to Mayan ruins Cahal Pech, Xunantunich, Caracol, and also Tikal , across the border in Guatemala.
Hiking, cave exploration, river and cave tubing, horse riding are among the most popular here. Plenty of tour companies offer 1/2 day and full day trips. All guides with good English and Spanish!
