The location on top of the hill meant that the views during the day and at night were quite beautiful. The restaurant food for breakfast, lunch and dinner was very good - tasty, well presented and quite good value. There is also the option of the hotel next door for an evening meal. The hotel is only a very short walk to the impressive Cahel Pech Archeoligical site where you can easily spend 2 hours exploring. Being on top of the hill it required a VERY steep hike back up after checking out the town centre. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend.

Spacious room with good facilities for the price - fridge, microwave, kettle, ironing board, aircon and fan. Convenient location to walk into town but be aware it's classed as outside the main town for many tour / shuttle collections. They will normally pick up but you need to check / agree it with the operator to make sure.

Accommodation and the whole property was amazing, all staff were friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. Food was great, tours were well organised. We stayed in the jungle bungalows and one night in a treehouse which was brilliant. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Literally could not fault this hotel one bit. We were very worried about booking it as it was our first time in Belize and thought it would be a scary place to visit. How wrong we were. The hotel obviously is not the Hilton but if you’re there for 4 days like us it’s exactly all you need. You’re smack bang in the middle of everything and a 1 minute walk from the bus stop which takes you to Belize city (same travel time as taxi but only 10BZE as apples to 120USD). The same bus stop also takes you to the ruins in Xunantunich. It’s the Benque Bus (the same bus you get from Belize City to San Ignacio) and stops right outside the entrance and cost 2.5BZE. The entry fee is 10BZE. The buses come very frequently and are great fun. If you haven’t booked your next area like we did don’t book San Pedro. It’s really super expensive, more expensive than London prices and really boring. Jump on the bus and go somewhere else. We wish we had.

Here’s a polished and engaging travel review for Banana Bank Lodge: A True Gem of Hospitality and Community My stay at Banana Bank Lodge was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warmth and genuine care. The staff couldn’t do enough for me—attentive, kind, and always ready to assist. Their dedication to guest satisfaction truly sets this place apart. What makes Banana Bank Lodge extraordinary isn’t just its breathtaking surroundings or the comfort it offers, but the passion and heart that go into every aspect of it. The owner is a true gentleman, going above and beyond to share the incredible history of the lodge and the meaningful work he and his wife have dedicated themselves to. This is far more than just a lodge or farm; it’s a living testament to their deep-rooted commitment to the land, the people, and the culture. Their philosophy is evident in every detail—from their respect for nature to their efforts in uplifting the local community. They don’t just run a business; they are actively making a positive impact wherever possible. It’s a shining example of how tourism can be a force for good, blending sustainability, hospitality, and cultural enrichment. Thank you, Banana Bank Lodge, for an unforgettable experience. I left not just with wonderful memories but with deep admiration for what you stand for. If you’re looking for a stay that’s more than just a vacation—a place that truly touches the heart—this is it. Highly recommended! Micheal 🇮🇪

Stunning Riverside lodge, family-run (and built!) Miss China, her family and staff plus Clarissa Cookie (the cat) 🐈 made our stay so special. It’s a beautiful location, great food & rooms are comfortable and clean (rustic & authentic lodge) The staff walked us along river with machetes to reach Amazinf Mayan Ruins & we also had great fun tubing on the river. Really appreciates being droppped at the Belize Guatemala border too. 🙏❤️

The sunset view was spectacular, the main pool was great, excellent for swimming laps. The second pool was half empty, perhaps for insurance reasons as it was unattended. Landscaping was incredible. The room was excellent, the bathroom is amazing, and the A/C worked great. The staff are very professional, friendly, and helpful.

The staff knows what you need even before you need it! Absolutely fantastic. This was one of our best experiences with truly professional and attentive staff. Property is gorgeous and does not feel crowded evenn at full capacity. The perfect place if you are looking for a quiet hideaway in the jungle.

San Ignacio is the ideal starting point for tours to Mayan ruins Cahal Pech, Xunantunich, Caracol, and also Tikal , across the border in Guatemala. Hiking, cave exploration, river and cave tubing, horse riding are among the most popular here. Plenty of tour companies offer 1/2 day and full day trips. All guides with good English and Spanish!

Stayed for 6 nights total: 2 in San Ignacio, 1 at Rainforest Inn on Butterfly Highway, and 3 at the beach in Hopkins. The Rainforest was awesome and we did some cave exploring on tours. My husband and I enjoyed the cave tube float and our friends loved the ATM cave. Of course there are a number of Mayan ruins to explore without having to cross into Guatemala. Belize is a small country but from the Cays to Belmopan city and beach areas the culture is varied. The Garifuna culture around Hopkins is quite interesting and different from San Ignacio, which is more Mayan.

We enjoyed going to three Mayan archaeological sites, Xunantunich & Cahal Pech which are close to the city & Caracol which is a little over an hour away. Also the 1000’ Waterfall, the tallest in Central America, which is just off the road to Caracol complicated.

Authentic Belize and great home base for Mayan ruins and caves. Easy to get around with a car. Lots of small groceries but don't expect american style grocery. Going to Xuna and cave tubing was a one of a kind experience. We tried for 2 days to go to ATM but it was closed due to rain.

I specifically went to see the Thirsty Jagwar (yummy fruit wines) booth at the Day & Night Market at Mae Gordon Park in Belmopan. It was a rainy day and the grounds were a bit wet and muddy, but there was a good variety of friendly vendors, so it was fun to shop around. They also had a good DJ and live music so it was entertaining as well. There was also a good variety of food vendors to choose from. The highlight of my visit was my stay at the Kiki Witz Resort. It was only 5 minutes drive outside Belmopan. Easy to find right off the highway just past the ArtBox store, but GPS was off. I had the cutest little Glamping Cabin in the woods! I will definetly come back, stay there and do little excursions out from there.
