The location is excellent. Great area, safe to walk and close to many restarurants, coffee shops and local parks. Rooms are clean and spacious. Lobby is also very inviting and we liked that the parking space is easy to access.

This is a brand new hotel, it opened in early 2025. The WiFi is fast, the rooms are clean, the shower has great pressure, and the breakfast is good. The bed is comfy, and the AC works well. My room had a desk I could work at, but they also have a small conference room/breakfast area you can use. It's new, small, and low-key. I like it.

Bucaramanga is a jewel. No foreigners, no whitey's, no arrogance, no attitude, only local colombians. Perfect! A tiny bit more mosquitoes than Medellin, but hardly any compared to most tropical places. The weather is perfect, of course, no rain, 18 to 29° each day. The country club is mecca, an oasis, all encompassing luxury experience. The fine dining is unlike what I've experienced in paris, new york, toronto, Vancouver, other big cities. Unbelievably extraordinary quality and flavors of food. The service impeccable. The gym world class. The golf course amazing. The squash courts, oh my god!. The tennis courts were the best of the best, 14 red clay courts with a cadre of professionals to cater to your every need, ball boys, referees, instructors, professionals. Unbelievable. The room overlooked the golf course. Super quiet. And you cannot spend more than $200 Canadian dollars per day. The resort cost with the all you can eat buffet breakfast was $147 canadian. The massage 30 canadian. A latte $2.50 canadian. A bottle of wine, a reserve bottle, $30 canadian. Like I said, this place is more than half the price of Medellin, and three to four times cheaper than anything you'll find in the Caribbean or america. This place is golden. I will be living here for the next few years for between 1 and 2 months per year.

Barichara is a very picturesque and relaxed pueblo located in a beautiful region surrounded by mountains. The drive from Bucaramanga was spectacular along the Chichamocha canyon. The 9km, two hour walk along the Camino Real from Barichara to Guane was a highlight with an amazing view point with a restaurant in Guane overlooking the canyon. The trail is mostly downhill, and path is made of stone, but you do need to be careful with your step. Good walking shoes are a must and a bottle of water are recommended as well as a basic degree of fitness. It was, however, quite manageable for this 63 year old with two hip replacements. Guane itself was very small (400 residents) but nevertheless also had a beautiful colonial era town square. There were a number of 3 wheeled moto taxis (Tuk Tuks) for the return trip (cost 15,000 COP). We also drove about 35 minutes to San Gil on the second day to do an amazing tubing adventure in Rio Fonce. This region is highly recommended and I can easily see myself returning here again sometime.

It's a very beautiful city, with large parks like La Flora and great local cuisine and fashion. It has spaces for walking, having coffee, and enjoying the scenery. It boasts good restaurant options and natural beauty. Overall, it's a very good area to live and enjoy. The Cabecera del Llano neighborhood seems to be one of the most sought-after areas to live in, due to its tranquility and convenience. My favorite places: La Flora Park, San Pío Park, Café Mesa de Los Santos, and Café Horneu. I ate at Yakusa Restaurant, Casa Cartagena, and Zekkei, but I didn't like the appetizers. Getting around Bucaramanga is easy on foot, but a bit complicated by car towards Floridablanca or the Chicamocha exit, especially on the way back in the afternoon. A fun activity is visiting La Flora Park; it's a large ecological park with a picnic area and walking trails.

If you have business at the oil refinery, you are in the right place. Otherwise, a typical small Colombian city. Nothing bad, but nothing amazing. I was passing through with family, and I insisted we stay in Barrancabermeja because I knew we could get a decent hotel here, rather than close to the highway. I was correct. If you are here, you probably have someone to see. It isn't bad, but it isn't really a tourist destination. Nice people and lots of civic pride. Taking all this into consideration, I give it a thumbs up.

A walkable town best seen on foot, that requires comfortable footwear and stamina. Or take tuktuks or Chivas (the local, colorful bus) on a tour around town. Visit the main square, the best bread store (panaderia) on the Eastern corner of the main square, the miradores (overlooks on the western side of town facing the drop to Rio Suárez) where there are great spots for drinks and/or a meal. One main attraction is the Camino Real (5.0 km one way) from Barichara to Guane, a tiny sleepy hamlet where you can get the cheapest Sabajón (alcoholic extra sweet beverage) in the state before heading back to Barichara on foot or via TukTuk ($20-$25,000 pesos). Make sure to take hiking boots for the trail and hike early in the morning due to the intense sun. Take water along and be prepared to see plenty of birds including the gorgeous Barranquero. Avoid eating at Elvia, the highly overpriced and minimalist famous restaurant in town which is a tourist trap. For great desserts visit Cafe Angel, next door to Elvia, in a magical garden setting. Order the almojabana torta. You'll love it!

Great and authentic colonial village.

Great and authentic colonial village. Ideal to walk through the streets and browse the different shops. has lots of amenities for tourists, such as electric tuc-tucs for those who don't want to walk the steep streets, but is a lively and living rural Colombian village and you get in touch with locals easily. Arts museum is wonderful, the camino real was too wet for me to walk it all the way.

Bucaramanga and, in particular, Ruitoque, is a fantastic place! The location, the vegetation, the new developments, and the great clinics and medical centers make it an extremely great place to retire. But there is little respect for seniors. Shopping centers and restaurants have extremely noisy environments. We visited several good friends in their homes and had a wonderful time with them. But the public places we visited were torturous due to the extremely loud environments.

San Gil is very turistic and influenced by that.

San Gil is very turistic and influenced by that. Excellent opportunities for recreation and extreme sports, but the horrid traffic can impact travel. The main route from Bogota' to Bucaramanga goes right through it and can really congest the streets. These are old "horse" cart roads in town and the traffic can be "impressive" and difficult to manage. Quaint charm with amenities, a commercial mall and plenty of food and drink around the central park.
