The lobby is clean and comfortable with an original design. The room is big with two separate beds, a wardrobe, a fridge, a TV, a regulated radiator. A good bathroom has a floor with regulated heating. We were in winter (-18 C⁰) and it was very warm and comfortable. There is a lift that is very important when you are with suitcases. Moreover, the place of the hotel is marvellous. Last but not least the girls at the reception are always kind and helpful.

My room was very cozy. It was like a dorm room, with twin beds and two working spaces, a kitchenette. I really liked it, one of my favourite stays in Tartu. I booked it on purpose to be a nice hour's walk from my university. Most people would take the bus (stop's very close), or drive, or whatever. And you guys, there's a legendary fast food place called Sirius close by, and the food is really cheap and really tasty. No joke.

Tartu is enchanting!
Tartu is enchanting! It beautifully combines a sense of history with modern architecture, culture and education. There are excellent restaurants and bars, as well as the opera, the Botanical Garden, the Estonian National Museum and so much more. Take your time strolling along Tartu’s hilly streets and riverbank, exploring the Old Town and Town Hall Square, and soaking up the city’s atmosphere and understated Estonian charm. The city is very clean, and its infrastructure is constantly being improved.

The hostess was great.
The hostess was great. They provided additional information regarding a tour of the castle and the area. The breakfast menu was provided the evening before and it was extensive. I checked off just about everything on offer and then worried it would be too much, but the portions were adjusted accordingly, and thus I was delighted to have been able to taste all of what was offered. As for the area...restful.

This can be dubbed the garden town of Estonia (which in itself could be named the garden country of Europe). Every detached house has an immaculate garden with lots of flowers in the summer and the town government does not save pennies on making streets floral and beautiful. There are small and larger forests in the neighbourhood and there are two small beaches bordering natural lakes in the town centre. For those looking for vibrant nightlife, this is not the place to be. From Elva you can take the train or bus to Tartu from the 19th century wooden train station. In the other direction, the train goes to Valga from where you can travel onwards into Latvia. Overall, i would think that 3 days is about right to explore Elva (and its excellent small scale restaurants) and the surroundings.

In addition to the well-known sights, I would also recommend the following: 1) Supilinn – a neighborhood of new and restored wooden houses that will appeal to architects and designers; 2) rent an e-bike (Smart Bike Tartu app) to explore more distant areas; 3) go for a swim at the beach near the city center; 4) take a photo at the Upside Down House - that is funny; 5) among the cafés in the center, we liked Gustav – the warm salad was delicious!

Tartu is a beautiful, peaceful, and welcoming city with a charming old town, lovely riverside walks, and a relaxed atmosphere. We really enjoyed exploring the city and would love to visit again. The AHHAA Science Centre was one of the highlights of our trip. It offers fascinating interactive exhibits for both children and adults, making learning fun and engaging. We spent several hours there and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
