The breakfast and dinner were very delicious and there was a large selection. Ian is an excellent cook 😀. The room with a window like a triangle was very special, it had a comfortable bed and an extraordinary view. Supun and Ian, who operate the resort, are very friendly and nice hosts. Supun also helped us to see the beautiful nature there, nice ricefields and unfortunately Riverston in mist. We want to return if it's possible

My stay at Ferndale Retreat Luxury Eco Resort in Kandy was phenomenal. Having traveled to more than 10 countries, I have never experienced such exceptional hospitality. From the moment we checked in, the service was outstanding. The owner, Chaminda, personally welcomed my boyfriend and me, offering us a complimentary trekking excursion to a nearby waterfall where we enjoyed a refreshing dip in the natural pool. This unexpected adventure was truly amazing. We had the pleasure of enjoying home-grown, garden-fresh vegetables from Ferndale's own organic farm. We even picked them ourselves! The in-house chef prepared a wonderful Sri Lankan meal inspired by the farm-to-table concept, and all the food was organic. The meals were delicious and showcased the fresh ingredients beautifully. The rooms were incredibly comfortable, with super cozy beds and a balcony view that transported us to another world. The bathrooms were spotless and the water was incredibly refreshing. If I could, I’d rate my experience 100/10. The resort employs local staff from the nearby village and is committed to 100% sustainable practices. They use eco-friendly materials, conserve water, and support the local community in every possible way. Staying at Ferndale Retreat, you can really feel their dedication to preserving the environment and promoting sustainability. Anyone visiting Kandy should stay at this remarkable place for at least one day—though I highly recommend staying for at least two days to fully experience the beauty and tranquility of this amazing property

The cottage is one of the most beautiful one because of your in middle of nature. It's next to a wonderful waterfall, surrounded by jungle. The beds are super comfy and huge. We really enjoyed our 'jungle stay', especially the morning swims. So happy we found this magical and peaceful place!!!

Beautiful property, in the middle of nature and the tea plantation. The room was super large, with ceiling fan and mosquito net.
Terence and the rest of the staff were really the highlight of our stay. They took such good care of us and treated us with such kindness, bringing us tea and fresh juices throughout the day. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner there for two days (always different), and this was really the best food we had in Sri Lanka. We could also fill up our water bottles at all time, which was very appreciated.
Magnificent furniture, all from the colonial times, though it could be a bit cleaner (cushions and fabrics of the different sofas).
The swimming pool was the perfect addition, after walking around in the hot weather.
Finally, our visit to the tea factory was very interesting: we learnt a lot and were so happy to be able to buy their tea at the end, for a very decent price.

The town is a little gem.
The town is a little gem.
Small enough to walk, easy streets to negotiate, great views, moderate temperatures, great food at half Kandy prices, a harmonious mix of Muslim, Tamil, and Sinhala citizens, there is a lot to appreciate in Matale.

Our stay at Royal Mountain Edge, Knuckles from 16/05/2025 was an unforgettable experience! It began with a guided hike organized by the team, tailored perfectly to our preferences. The hike was magnificent, with an excellent and caring guide. The packed lunch provided during the hike was both delicious and energy-packed—just what we needed.
After the hike, we returned to Royal Mountain Edge, where we enjoyed a refreshing dip in the infinity pool followed by warm tea and local snacks. In the evening, they surprised us with a cozy bonfire, serving local brews as we warmed ourselves by the flames. For dinner, the BBQ platter was absolutely delicious and satisfying.
The silence time began at 11:00 PM, but until then, we immersed ourselves in the serene forest surroundings and its enchanting nightlife. The rooms were spacious, cozy, and impeccably clean, offering a perfect retreat after an adventurous day.
The next morning, we woke up early to watch the sunrise near the pool, accompanied by a hot cup of coffee graciously served by the staff. Breakfast was a delightful spread of local delicacies, including milk rice, lunu miris, chicken curry, and fresh fruits. It was the perfect way to end our magical stay at Royal Mountain Edge, Knuckles.
Highly recommended for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike!

A beautiful place on earth that there are lots of 360 degree...
A beautiful place on earth that there are lots of 360 degree view points. But if it rains it will ruin your plans. So make sure you depend on weatherly and visit Matale when it shows many continuous sunny days. Even on cloudy forecasts do not visit as all mointain tops then will be covered and you will not see the sights. when it is humid leaches also will be active and will become a painful experience.

Mainly there are 10-12 attractions in Matale.
Mainly there are 10-12 attractions in Matale. As I just stayed one day which was not sufficient to visit all the places. Among them where I went were also hampered due to the rain at time to time. Generally Matele was quit good tourist destination if it is planned well with couple of days.
