- From $112.86 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 6.7Pleasant - What previous guests thought, 251 reviewsThe Thunderbird Motel without a doubt is one of the very best budget motels I've ever stayed in. Obviously they've refurbished the place not too long ago, of which they've done a really nice job. The rooms looked modern, were very clean, spacious, great bathroom and shower, very comfortable bed, good refrigerator and microwave. The owner was friendly and super helpful. Spoke to a guy who cleans the rooms who was really conscientious about the quality of his work which was awesome too. Good wifi, great location in the middle of Bishop.Guest review byJosh LucasUnited Kingdom

As advertised, the heating unit only took a little edge off the cold, but there were plenty of blankets to keep warm in bed.Guest review byNathanUnited States

We loved the raw beauty of the mountains, lakes and geologic features in the area. We didn't bring or rent bikes, but will the next time. An e-bike would be great for riding up to the Mammoth Lakes and touring the whole area. We will be back again, possibly during ski season as well.Guest review bySTEVENUnited States - 8.0
To truly appreciate Bishop you have to slow down.
To truly appreciate Bishop you have to slow down. It’s best experienced not just looked at. Rich cultures, good food, and beautiful scenery that can be explored in numerous ways. I understand economics but it is losing its charm chasing the quick $. It used to be a nice place to go overnight to just relax, that’s gone. I hope that a better balance of expectations for the town can be found. Progress can and will happen, but having a place that forces you to slow down…has potential in this world of non stop and go go go.Guest review byAnonymousUnited States - 10.0

There's a McDonald's which is always good for feeding children at a reasonable price. There's a good Mexican restaurant in town with a very friendly waitress. The motion picture museum is well done. The Alabama hills are very interesting along with Mt Whitney.Guest review byunclexeres - 10.0
Lee Vining is a cool small town with a vintage vibe.
Lee Vining is a cool small town with a vintage vibe. It has a couple of great casual restaurants, shops with local Yosemite / Eastern Sierra themed merchandise, fishing/hiking gear and a gas station. It is the ultimate gateway stay for a trip into Yosemite National Park.Guest review bySandraUnited States - 10.0

We travelled out of Yosemite towards Lee Vining and travelling that little bit further north. That extra bit of driving was well worth the landscape and facilities of Bridgeport. Although small, had excellent facilities, restaurants, bars, shop and historical info. Felt totally safe there and it was only a fairly short drive back down to Mono Lake. Do stop at the viewing point on the way down for pictures and Bodie is definitely worth a stop if interested in the history of mine towns. It was better than others we have been to, like Calico near Barstow. Will need to engage the 4 wheel drive to negotiate the road though!Guest review byRichard BillingtonUnited Kingdom - 10.0
My husband had a great day of fly fishing.
My husband had a great day of fly fishing. I relaxed on the deck with a good book. There are so many things to do in the June Lake area. We did some sight seeing. We usually come to relax, swim and fish. We ate at the Tiger Bar for dinner and as usual, it was delicious! We hope to be back soon!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Great coffee shop in town, I think it was called Brewed Awakening, excellent coffee, food, and atmosphere. I had the fruity waffles which were super yummy! Big Pine is a great launching pad for the Ancient Bristlecone Pine forest, 4,000 year old trees just off the first exit off of 395 north!Guest review bySocorro ManUnited States - 4.0

Booked to stay in Independence as we wanted to visit Manzanar on our way south. But we wished we had gone further south to Lone Pine and then doubled back north in the morning as there was much more choice of accommodation in Lone Pine. Manzanar is worth visiting as is the Film Museum in Lone Pine.Guest review bymandk88United Kingdom - 8.0

It was in a great location for us, the views were beautiful, the access was great - straight off the highway, the 'wigwam we stayed in was very comfortable, the people were very friendly and helpful. We had great food at the café, the pool was lovely (although we wish it opened a little earlier in the morning). However we do have to mention the toilets. The ones we used were rough and ready but were mostly ok. However, of the 4, one was out of order and one was blocked and had no running water at the hand wash basin. We picked one that was clean and did work though .Guest review byStephenUnited Kingdom - 2.0

We stayed at this hotel before when Sam the previous owner was there. Now it’s under new ownership. It’s was not the same. We booked two rooms. One of them didn’t have hot water. The ac didn’t work well since they use swamp coolers. The owner has been there for only a few months and I think he is overwhelmed. As far as the room himself, it needs new curtains the ones that we had wooden close right they were pretty old ann Cow webs all over the ceilings. It wasn’t very clean.Guest review bySamUnited States
