Situated along Tanohara River and surrounded by tranquil nature in Kurokawa Onsen hot spring area, Oku no Yu Ryokan offers charming Japanese-style accommodation and various hot spring baths. Service was flawless, the food was perfect, and the baths were great. My room was good for my needs, it was quiet, and the waterfall and rivers outside was a great source of white noise. Highly recommend for a peaceful stay!

Located in the heart of the city, Hotel Nikko Kumamoto features accommodations with free wired internet access and views of Kumamoto Castle. The concierge was amazing, thank you to Yamada, she was the best help with our tours or dinners our transport. They made reservations for us everywhere. Top notch staff. !!

Located in the centre of Kurokawa Onsen, Oyado Noshiyu offers outdoor and indoor hot-spring baths, Japanese-style accommodations and a traditional teahouse. This may have singlehandedly been the best ryokan I've stayed at in my few trips to Japan to date. The ryokan's bathing facilities are top notch, and having visited a few of the other Kurokawaonsen ryokan onsen before checking in (making use of the Nyuto Tegata onsen-hopping pass, which allows you to visit up to three onsens within the limits of Kurokawaonsen in the course of a day), including Yamamizuki, I believe that Noshiyu's onsens are up there amongst the best. Turning to the food, the booth allocated to me/my room in the dining room both for dinner and breakfast was exquisite, alike the cooking and the high quality ingredients used for my two meals. My room (the Yamabuki) was one of the biggest I have stayed at at a ryokan, and has its own mini onsen. All in all, an amazing accommodation experience which met and slightly surpassed my expectations.

Very nice and helpful staff (a man drove me to another village to catch a bus to Aso). Beautiful ryokan which makes you slowing down a little bit. Amazing outdoor onsen, the smallest private one was lovely too. Delicious food!

Only a 5-minute walk from the centre of Kurokawa hot-spring district, Kurokawa Onsen Ryokan Ichinoi offers Japanese-style accommodations with Japanese Yukata robes. The best hotel ever !! We loved our stay there. Amazing location, such a tasty food , so peaceful, clean and beautiful, we felt so special spending time there. We rented the private bath and also used the shared baths and it was amazing experience. I would recommend it to everyone. Magical place with super sweet stuff. It exceeded our expectations. We will definitely come back.

Boasting individual Japanese-style houses and maisonettes with a private open-air hot spring bath, Ryokan Kono-Yu is nestled in lush greenery in the peaceful Kurokawa hot spring area. We were blown away by this wonderful accommodation and staff. The team who looked after us were the warmest, most helpful people and the ryokan itself was simply stunning. Having our own private Onsen was amazing and the tatami room was very stylish . Dinner and breakfast were delicious too - we can’t wait to stay again in the future.

Kumamoto Hotel Castle is a 7-minute walk from the famous Kumamoto Castle. It features 4 restaurants and modern guest rooms with free WiFi. The hotel is in a great location, close to the main shopping malls and quickly reachable from the Kumamoto station. The hotel staff was very helpful, spoke excellent English and were very welcoming. We shipped our luggage from one hotel to another and usually we have to fill in the paperwork ourselves but they did it for us and we’re very gentle with the suitcases- little details make such a difference! Their inside restaurant and bar are also worth a try.
