I stopped by as part of a longer bike trip across the region, and the quality of the facilities, staff, and breakfast far exceeded my expectations. Everyone went above and beyond when I asked for help, their hospitality is practiced in a way that feels thoughtful, holistic, and caring. A big shoutout to how well connected they are locally. They helped me connect with people and services throughout the village. Thanks to them, I was put in touch with an amazing bike mechanic. My favorite part, though? The delicious homemade cakes at breakfast! A fantastic spread: fresh, varied, and absolutely delicious!

We stayed at Piano Piano for one night with our two young children (5 and 1.5 years old) and the experience exceeded expectations, largely thanks to the wonderful host. When we arrived, the host was there waiting for us personally — a small gesture that made a big difference after a long drive. What really stood out was the care shown when they noticed our setup with a small baby: they proactively arranged a room change to one without stairs, which made our stay so much more comfortable and safe. Beyond the room itself, the host went the extra mile by helping us sort out parking (no easy feat in the Sassi district!) and providing detailed maps and local tips for exploring Matera. That kind of hands-on, thoughtful hospitality is rare. The room itself is beautifully located in the heart of the UNESCO Sassi district — waking up in a cave dwelling is a truly unique experience. Highly recommend Piano Piano to any family visiting Matera.

Very nice hotel at a perfect location. Away from hordes of tourists. Feels like almost empty whilst in fact fully booked due to big territory and a lot of staff.
