During this one-hour guided horse-drawn tour, you will pass by Charleston’s historically significant homes, churches and gardens while listening to commentary about the city’s role in American history. First, you will meet your guide at a local stable where you can meet the Belgian and Percheron draught horses and watch an educational video. Then, you will board the carriage and ride to the city gate, near the Charleston City Market. The carriage will briefly stop at the city gate to get a route assigned by the City of Charleston, which ensures carriage traffic is dispersed more evenly throughout the city. While the tour route varies, each tour passes by sights that give Charleston its unique charm – custom wrought iron gates, well-manicured gardens, historic mansions with picturesque piazzas and many church steeples. Your carriage tour will cover 30 blocks and 300-plus years of history.
