El Médano is a coastal town located in the south of Tenerife belonging to the municipality of Granadilla de Abona. It is just a few kilometres from Tenerife South Airport, and is well known as a windsurfing and kitesurfing destination. It is a welcoming, cosmopolitan place with many places to eat and enjoy spectacular sea views. El Médano used to be a small fishing village but experienced a big development in the 80's with the construction boom. Even so, it still retains a certain village atmosphere and has not become as touristy as other nearby towns. One of the best things to do in El Médano is to visit La Tejita Beach, which, at over a kilometre long, is one of the wildest and most beautiful beaches in the whole of Tenerife. It is located next to the Montaña Roja Nature Reserve, an ancient reddish volcanic crater. If you like wild beaches you can also go to Playa de la Pelada. It is another of the best things to do in El Médano, for the intimacy it offers and the contact with nature. As for its gastronomic offer, El Chiringuito Pirata is an excellent place to eat and have a few beers. All while enjoying a pleasant view of the ocean. There is also Manfred's Soul Café, which offers live music and one of the most beautiful views of the sea. On the other hand, Veinte 04 Surf Café combines healthy cuisine with regional products. All in all, this is an idyllic destination if you are looking to enjoy the sun, the beach, the tranquillity and the marvellous views that the natural landscape has to offer.
