We travelled to Lumley Castle to celebrate my Sons wedding! Everything was absolutely Amazing! A beautiful setting for a beautiful day! Thank you for making a special day even more amazing!
The weather could of been better!
Location Secure Parking Quite
Very Poor Lighting in Bedrooms unable to read! Breakfast at £14.95 excessive charge. Evening meal for my wife Liver under cooked not able to eat - poor !
The atmosphere and furnishings were fabulous! Rooms were gorgeous...we arrived on a not-busy night and were given alternate rooms to be near each other which we really appreciated as a family with older children.
Dinner service was remote. Not very attentive servers.
The location was great, easily accessible from A1. Beds were comfortable.
Wifi access intermittent / poor. Rooms overpriced - I have visited cheaper hotels which supply more "extras" in the room, eg bath robes / slippers. Breakfast service - total chaos. Bar prices were extreme.
Awesome location and venue for my sister's wedding, the Castle really is incredible. You could spend a week, if not more, exploring all its nooks and crannies!
Getting lost... More than once.
The staff & service were excellent - despite being very busy - very friendly, helpful and efficient.
I couldn't really fault anything other than I just felt the room rate was very over priced for what you got.
Everything it was perfect
The room we were in had a very poor WI-FI link but who cares it didn't affect a perfect break
Lovely historic building
The general style of the place
The service is way below what you would expect for the prices charged. The food was also not up to scratch. An example of somewhere that commands the same price is Cameron House in Loch Lomond in Scotland, where the service/food and decor and exceptional in comparison.
The surroundings and gardens outdoors. Food in the restaurant.
Staff was rude at times, an attitude changed when we ordered a bottle of expensive champagne. Had to ask 3 times for champagne glasses to be in the room. Room 50 smelt like sick an smelly feet odour. Found a silver fish in the bathroom.
Loved the feature room, were you had to walk through the wardrobe to use the toilet. Also the deep bath was fantastic. The bed was extremely comfortable and the food was amazing. Wish there was more details on the history (we only found this on our way home) plus more details on the apparent ghosts, experiences and sightings.
the bedrooms were small but comfortable. the breakfast was very good with a wide selection of cooked breakfast options swell as cold /continental and cereals.
The hotel is definitely not suitable for those with walking difficulties , the rooms are difficult to find and not easily accessible due to stone spiral staircases that are very narrow, our room was close to a wedding function room to which we were not attending..the disco didn't stop till 01:15 and the sound resonated through the bedrooms.
The way the basis of the castle has been maintained, whilst providing comfortable, modern hotel facilities makes for an enjoyable stay.
If you are tall or prone to banging your head you probably will in the courtyard rooms.
The castle is nice and in a good location.
Breakfast very poor, disorganised, toast cold and service very poor. Wifi poor. Didn't manage to use it for the duration of the stay due to it constantly being unavailable due to the volume users. I feel they need to seriously look at obtaining a better system.
Location for cricket ground , comfortable beds and great service.
Priced a little highly for facilities available , high reliance on the drama of the castle , wifi too poor to use .
We loved our room in the castle itself, where we moved from our first room in the Mews (The mews rooms are lovely but are much too modern if one is looking to have a castle stay experience). The restaurant was fully booked on the night but we ordered room service and it was absolutely lovely so we would definitely recommend that.
Our request for a ground floor room was observed & was very convenient & extremely comfortable. The evening meal in the Black Knight restaurant was superb, Michelin class. My pigeon breast starter melted in the mouth & the duck main course could not be surpassed on Masterchef! We were given an elevated, secluded table in the corner of the medieval styled restaurant which was perfect. The service was attentive & professional. We had an idyllic evening. Next time I will take my binoculars as the bird watching in the surrounding grounds looked promising. We can't wait to return in the autumn.
The coffee at breakfast was stewed & undrinkable.
Hotel was lovely and the staff friendly and helpful.
It would have been helpful to have the same internet access throughout the hotel. Also it would have been nice to have been warned that it was advisable to book the restaurant for dinner in advance as it was not possible to book a table when we checked in at 4pm that afternoon. This meant that we had to get a taxi and find an alternative - no help or advice was given to find anywhere else!
Poor wifi in rooms, bar closes early although porter service after 10.30 would have prefered bar to remain open till approx 11.30
fantastic stay ,staff very helpful, room 10/10.can not wait to go again
I have been to quite a few country hotels in Britain, but this was really special. The public rooms have real atmosphere. The restaurant is something not to miss. What a room! It is dark and it feels haunted, just as it should. It is very nice that the hotel displays so much flowers outside in the courtyard. It makes you feel welcome. I travelled alone with my two year old son and I felt welcomed.
The excellent service from all the staff and how do you get the breakfast plates so hot they keep all your breakfast hot to the last mouthful.?
My only complaint was my dinner on our first night, I asked for my lamb to be cooked well done..... and sadly, it was cremated almost to charcoal. And no, I didn't complain at the time, I did not want to spoil our special evening.
Location for visiting family Atmosphere of staying in a castle Breakfast pretty good
Room a bit dark Good light above mirror in bathroom
