Rooms were rather sumptuous, warm and welcoming. The castle itself was quite amazing.
Although our rooms were very atmospheric and in keeping with the period of the castle, the lighting was poor for practical purposes.
pure excitement of staying in an historic castle and was made to feel special, and the staff dressed in costume.
noise from other guests wine list expensive
Needs a freshen up
The location, the food, our bedroom (Room 51), the staff
Some of the areas leading to Room 51 are in need of some TLC - the room between the landing and our room was less than inviting
Clean room Modern clean bathroom with decent sized fluffy towels. Atmospheric surroundings Evening meal in Black night restaurant. Pleasant staff
Broken windowpane in room Unable to turn radiator down. Breakfast- Not a good start when a huge spider dropped into my husbands breakfast cereal from the nearby curtains, The speed our order arrived made us believe it was being pre-prepared and kept warm. Confirmed to us by the fact that the muffin base was tough and chewy. The plate was much hotter than the food. Had it not been included in the tariff we would not have been happy paying for the cooked breakfast. A shame as the previous evening meal in the restaurant was really good.
Room very dark
The whole ambience of being in such an old building - the unusual shaped rooms, the decor, the great doorways... We also enjoyed the food.
Slightly disappointed by lack of local interesting beers served in the bar. The range on offer was small and unimaginative.
Stayed in a castle room overnight for my partners 40th birthday.... Lovely grounds.... Comfortable double bed.... Fabulous breakfast.... & 1st class service.... Beautiful castle.... Tastefully decorated! Highly recommended! :)
Loved the feature rooms! The walks around the castle were very picturesque.
The staff were ignorant and wernt interested in helping at all. Breakfast was definitley not up to scratch! I paid £179 for a feature room and the room was amazing but that was unfortunately the only thing.
Friendly staff Nice clean room Great location
The Wi-Fi is very unreliable and if you need to access it for business purposes it is not acceptable (second visit this year and same problem both times).
We travelled to Lumley Castle to celebrate my Sons wedding! Everything was absolutely Amazing! A beautiful setting for a beautiful day! Thank you for making a special day even more amazing!
The weather could of been better!
Location Secure Parking Quite
Very Poor Lighting in Bedrooms unable to read! Breakfast at £14.95 excessive charge. Evening meal for my wife Liver under cooked not able to eat - poor !
The atmosphere and furnishings were fabulous! Rooms were gorgeous...we arrived on a not-busy night and were given alternate rooms to be near each other which we really appreciated as a family with older children.
Dinner service was remote. Not very attentive servers.
The location was great, easily accessible from A1. Beds were comfortable.
Wifi access intermittent / poor. Rooms overpriced - I have visited cheaper hotels which supply more "extras" in the room, eg bath robes / slippers. Breakfast service - total chaos. Bar prices were extreme.
Awesome location and venue for my sister's wedding, the Castle really is incredible. You could spend a week, if not more, exploring all its nooks and crannies!
Getting lost... More than once.
The staff & service were excellent - despite being very busy - very friendly, helpful and efficient.
I couldn't really fault anything other than I just felt the room rate was very over priced for what you got.
Everything it was perfect
The room we were in had a very poor WI-FI link but who cares it didn't affect a perfect break
Lovely historic building
The general style of the place
The service is way below what you would expect for the prices charged. The food was also not up to scratch. An example of somewhere that commands the same price is Cameron House in Loch Lomond in Scotland, where the service/food and decor and exceptional in comparison.
The surroundings and gardens outdoors. Food in the restaurant.
Staff was rude at times, an attitude changed when we ordered a bottle of expensive champagne. Had to ask 3 times for champagne glasses to be in the room. Room 50 smelt like sick an smelly feet odour. Found a silver fish in the bathroom.
Loved the feature room, were you had to walk through the wardrobe to use the toilet. Also the deep bath was fantastic. The bed was extremely comfortable and the food was amazing. Wish there was more details on the history (we only found this on our way home) plus more details on the apparent ghosts, experiences and sightings.
the bedrooms were small but comfortable. the breakfast was very good with a wide selection of cooked breakfast options swell as cold /continental and cereals.
The hotel is definitely not suitable for those with walking difficulties , the rooms are difficult to find and not easily accessible due to stone spiral staircases that are very narrow, our room was close to a wedding function room to which we were not attending..the disco didn't stop till 01:15 and the sound resonated through the bedrooms.
