Four poster bed has seen better days.
Nice property. in the middle of the shopping area. staff are very friendly and helpful. I felt very comfortable an happy.
The property needs renovation as it is very old in every thing.
location Typical English style
cleaniness bed food
We liked checking out of this hotel . Ambleside is great but the hotel isnt
The food was cooked using a microwave the staff were poor got offered a refund and still waiting for it. Dont stay here if u if u do dint eat here
Excellent location in the centre of Ableside
The car park at the rear was very small and difficult to manoeuvre into and out of parking spaces
LOCATION AND FREINDLY STAFF,EXELLENT BREAKFAST
All staff were friendly and professional. Most interaction was in the bar, which is a lovely wood panelled room nice and light and well lit WITHOUT loud music, etc which suited my friends and me so we could sit and enjoy talking with one another. The bar staff were excellent bringing drinks to our table when they'd had to change a barrel or when one had too many drinks to carry back on ones own. I'll happily stay there again.
There was nothing not to like.
Excellent staff, good location for both the centre of town and walking in the hills. Excellent breakfast and a good selection of supper dishes. The single room was comfortable , functional but not luxurious.
The room is neat and tidy, the hotel staff can offer great help if needed.
The breakfast is single and less choice, the wifi and some facilities such as the heating are not work in the room.
Location & Staff
The water system made a horrible howling noise after flushing the toilet Which woke everyone up if used early hours
-Blonde haired receptionist was absolutely non-cooperative -In a single room it was very cold. I asked for a heater and got a fan!!! That lady really didn't care: 'take and go approach'
Location was excellent.
Hotel has a distinct 'tired' feel about it. We arrived on a cold wet and windy afternoon and upon entering into our room, it was freezing cold. Nobody had thought to turn the radiator on in preparation of our arrival. When we mentioned this to the guy on reception, he wouldn't take ownership and stated that he had been away for the past two weeks. Needless to say the heating was turned on but by that point we'd decided to find alternative accommodation. The bar completely lacked a homely feel about it. The 'big light' was on and it was seemingly frequented exclusively by certain members of the local male population.
Hot water and heating did not work. Reported, water then working too late to have a shower after day walking. Heating did not work for all of the rest of two day stay. Hotel provided two portable heaters one which was already there I suspect it had been broken for a while.
Good to be right in the heart of Ambleside
Not enough parking. Amenities clean but in need of modernisation.
NO HOT WATER
Location and a nice lounge and bar area
Room was disappointing have stayed at this hotel several times and always been pleased. Stayed in room 10. Pine toilet seat had split on front. Shower full of hair from previous guest and shower controller broken therefore took pot luck on what was hot or cold.
Lack of parking opportunities
good food Great to relax in the bar with good selection of drinks in both bars. Good central location. Plenty of character
No double glazing so noise of rain water could be heard as pipe work was leaking right outside of the window. Could do with more parking spaces
Excellent choice of cask ales food improved a lot since our last visit and service excellent . The position of this hotel is also very good. Very good value compared to others.
Needs an update like yesterday but you know what to expect when you book the queens.
Location excellent and hotel lovely and warm,
Breakfast a bit cold though did get a veggie sausage which was hot. would prefer a pot of tea rather than having to just get hot water from a flask. Had to wait at reception for ages as no one was there. When the guy did come though he was very pleasant and friendly.
Good location Friendly, helpful staff
Tired and somewhat dirty rooms - mouldy bathroom, black mouldy windows, broken light fittings. Awful over microwaved food
1) Cheap (by Lake District) standards 2) Convenient for buses 3) Friendly helpful staff 4) Ample breakfast portions 5) What my mother would call 'wholesome' 6) Full range of digital channels on television INCLUDING RADIO 3 and 4
1) Beery smell throughout public areas (it is essentially an inn) 2) Room rather cramped 3) Breakfast not very hot
The food is good and wholesome, but limited. I love the beers. I also loved the breakfast. The staff always friendly. Its a quirky old hotel, which has it's charm in a charming village, but it needs to improve and to be updated if charging £78 for a double room for a single traveller.
The rate for a four night stay worked out to £78/night/person for a standard double room. I booked in advance. Compared to the displayed rates at the reception desk this was higher. There was no soap on the first night, awaiting delivery? I had to ask for some the following morning, which was met some bewilderment by the non english staff. The room didn't seem to have been cleaned every day?
Staff friendly and courteous , room clean and bed very comfortable,
No negative points.
