Score from 700 reviews Very good
Food and service was great with good choice. Rooms are roomy and comfortable. Good location for going in and out of Durham and surrounding area.
Nothing,would recommend hotel to anyone
Excellently situated for access to Durham City. Very comfortable, very clean and great value. Nice restaurant, excellent carvery and great breakfast. They are adding a spa with quite major building works going on at the moment. This is being excellently managed so that guests are not disturbed and there is the minimum of inconvenience. Recommended
location,enviroment, public transport all excellent
Location for exploring Durham and the surrounding area was excellent. Staff could not be more helpful and gave some great tips on places to visit and modes of transport. No time for golf but course and facilities looked good. New leisure centre being built, ready for spring 2015, we will be back. Food, choice and cost excellent.
No moans, resident car parking was a bit restricted, but this was due to the on going works, just walk further.
Tremendous food with top drawer service. Very helpful reception staff.
With minor exceptions staff were unsmiling and not very welcoming. Food at Bistro was mediocre. Guests were encouraged to reuse bath towels however towel rail on enquiry to staff were intentionally kept switched off.
Comfortable room Good food Friendly staff
Friendly staff and welcoming environment. We had a small issue with one of our rooms because of torrential rain and the response to sort things out was immediate and professional. Great breakfast selection and well cooked. The hotel is just on the outskirts of Durham so you ideally need a car. There is beautiful art in the old areas of the hotel, take the time to see their fabulous collection of art from the local area spanning a couple of hundred years : )
all good apart from the cost of breakfast
£25 odd for breakfast is well over the top. Most I have spent in the past was £10 in a top hotel
The staff involved in the fountain room were friendly and did all they could to make our function go smoothly. The reception was excellent.
The bar staff were surly at times, the carvery food was awful, cold and congealed it had obviously been there a while. I also felt that £2.50 per person for room service was excessive that made a pot of tea cost £10.50
Staff Bedrooms Food
Accommodation good. Steak restaurant very good. Lots of car parking spaces available.
Poor breakfast: cold buffet and stale Danish pastries; coffee weak and cold; staff not very helpful.
large comfortable room, choice of restaurants - excellent wine list in the a la carte restuarant
When we checked in we had been delayed on one of our flights , having been up over 28 hrs we were a little tired to say the least. The desk staff where wonderful polite very friendly and any.problems , questions over our stay they helped in every way possible. I would like to say Victoria ( Vicky ) on the front desk was especially helpful and was a.breath of fresh air every morning or evening or whenever you past coming in or out off the hotel. Due to the quality of the service and hotel we extended our stay by another week as location wise , it is an ideal hub for the north east . Mrs J E Morrell
Waiting staff and food was awful... not what you'd expect at a 4* hotel. Lady at the meat section inserting her finger inside my chicken to remove a bit of string bare handed isnt my kind of thing.
The ambiance of the hotel Staff were very nice Good clean room
The only minor problem was wifi in the Cavery restaurant very patchy
I have stayed at the hotel several times and intend to book again in the future.
I wasnt aware of the extensive building work alongside the main hotel.
There was a slight problem with the room allocation that the reception quickly resolved.
I've stayed here previously as I love this place which is set in huge big grounds with plenty of parking!! My room was upstairs this time and of the same high, immaculate standard and lovely views with a huge room and ensuite which are peaceful, tastefully decorated, lovely big comfortable bed with big tv on wall, complimentary hot drinks facilties / biscuits / bottled spring water / toiletries and lovely big lounging chairs and desk / work place facilities with free wifi throughout complex. Staff very professional, welcoming, especially as I was a returning guest which they noted and food / service in Rib Restaurant was excellent! Can't wait to stay again!!
We booked a four poster bed and room the room was amazing The hotel was the same .I had been traveling for 4 hrs to get to hotel as I was visiting family in Durham. I will definitely booking again .
Foods was lovely service was excellent. I liked every think about rams ide hotel.
Cosy corners in bar; large bedroom with wow factor; meals available all day; nice view over golf course and all just three miles from Durham city centre. Have not given facilities 'excellent' markbecause they are in the process off building new swimming pool and other leisure facilities, so hope to return when completed and give it full marks.
Carvery could have been hotter, but it was middle of the afternoon and staff very happy to cut off dried ends of very tender meats. Accommodation a bit pricey but meals and drinks very reasonable so overall good value.
location, staff, and food.
Room 235 was situated above the kitchen and the kitchen fans made a constant noise in the room until 10.30pm. Avoid booking this room When water was run in the bathroom during the night there was a constant noise from vibrating pipes in this room.
