Set in the historic market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, this beautiful, award-winning 17th century hotel has become justly renowned for its warm hospitality and fine dining.
Score from 361 reviews Very good
The Red Lion is a traditional Cotswolds inn with 5 rooms, located on one of the most beautiful High Streets in the UK. Oozing history and character, the Red Lion provides cosy overnight accommodation....
Score from 240 reviews Very good
Very welcoming staff, excellent food and lovely hotel
Staff very polite and accommodating. Rooms very quaint and hotel very central to everything. Food very good
Toilet system very noisy !!
We were greeted with a warm welcome and assistance getting our baggage up to our room. The the staff were friendly and caring. The food was varied with plenty of choice and cooked to a high standard. All in all a very pleasant experience.
Past reviews subsequently visited and in our opinion too critical.
Not having a resident's lounge where we could sit to have a drink.
I have stayed at this hotel previously and believe it's greatest strength is its location for the Cotswolds as a whole. The staff were friendly and the place was clean but still retaining it's olde worlde charm.
Real local Cotswold hotel quirky rooms good food warm & friendly welcome.
Food great, staff lovely, room gorgeous.
Bathroom freezing. No heating.
brilliant location,friendly staff
We were not informed beforehand that the room we were allocated was up some extremely steep and difficult stairs. The only bannister rails were two pieces of copper piping. If we had been in any way disabled we could not have stayed in that room. Also we had water pouring in from upstairs through the sprinkler systemn on two evenings when the person upstairs took a shower. We were not offered alaternative rooms although the problem seemed to be well known to the staff.
Friendly staff, great location for exploring the Cotswolds, nice bar with a great menu.
I hardly got a wink of sleep either night as the walls were paper thin (although not the hotel's fault that we had a crazy arguing couple), floorboards creaky and the village bell rang four times an hour! The bed and pillows weren't very comfy either.
The age of the hotel provoques an exciting feeling,,, the very narrow, dark and steep stairs add to such a feeling. The room facing the market square is very cosy!! The breakfast is really good with a hot English choice!
As the floor of the room is not plain, I guess to to the age of the building, I felt a little insecure!
Staff were friendly and helpful. The building was full of character, room was comfortable and charming. we had dinner in the restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. we were surprised with complementary sparkling wine. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Breakfast was relaxing, cooked using local produce and presented to a good standard. Big thumbs up from us!!!
Wonderful location. Quirky feel to hotel. Fabulous breakfast. Excellent restaurant
The staff were attentive and very accommodating. The dining room quirky but stylish and the food well cooked. Good value all round.
Our bathroom was cold but it did not spoil our stay.
The Location of the Hotel. The Menu which was available all afternoon into Evening.
Clean rooms, friendly staff, good food. Ease of access to Stow and Cotswolds in general.
Bathroom a little cramped. Noise of TV in next room very audible and not great at 1am!
The friendly staff, the food was good especially the breakfast, their own parking area
The weather was cold, the stairs were very steep.
Staff were helpful and polite. Bedroom was warm and spacious. Excellent location.
The building was wonderful and perfectly situated overlooking the market square. The bedroom was warm and the en-suite was clean and functional. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
We stayed in a cottage room which was amazing and great value for money. The staff on duty when we checked in and had dinner in the pub were extremely friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was okay, but cold coffee and only one person on duty which let things down a bit.
Staff were good although did not offer to carry bags up horrendous stairs. Evening meal good value
Room dated. Walls paper thin. Stairs horrendous. Breakfast very poor and did not serve until 8 o clock and we had to leave for a meeting at 7.30
Nice historical pub/inn that keeps in well with the features of Stow-on-the wold. Staff were friendly and The King's Arms was well placed in the centre of the town.
Internet connection wasn't very good
Beautiful old hotel in a cosy little town. Central location to discover the cotswolds by car. Very good food, beautiful and clean room and bathroom. Very nice stuff. Parking space behind the hotel. Free wlan.
car parking, sound from adjoining room
Too much furniture in room
