The staff, firstly. A bit of a language barrier but so helpful. The guesthouse is just lovely. You get a real rustic feel. Extra padded mattresses too. There is an onsen on site and, you can book to have a traditional Japanese breakfast too. Be sure to visit the owner’s restaurant next door. The tuna is epic! We enjoyed 2 nights here to see Nachi Katsuura waterfall and we loved the sleepy town. You’ll have a relaxed stay here.
Hot-spring baths and massages can be enjoyed at Nakanoshima, located a 5-minute ferry ride from Kanko Sanbashi pier. Traditional Kaiseki dinners and rooms with views of Nachi Bay are featured.

The apartment was not clean but reasonably well set up. It is not easily assessable with limited public transport. Took me a long time finding it. DO NOT use this place if you are not familiar with it's location. Taking taxi will be very costly. Wifi was intermittent & AC was not working
Located a 5-minute drive from JR Kiikatsuura Train Station, Hotel Nagisaya offers a free shuttle service, and hot spring baths with an ocean view.

The view from our room was lovely and there was a feeling of old style elegance. The staff were polite and went out of their way to help when we left a pair of sunglasses in town - they immediately went to fetch them for us saving a hot walk. Very good service.
The outside onsen was also good to have and we enjoyed a small walk along the rocks.

1. Good Sea view especially sunset (even though I am too busy outside and no chance to see it.)
2. 1st floor room size is big that including a living room with a sofa, refrigerator, TV, Drying rack and also a Queen size bed which I feel very comfortable.
3. They have 3 washing machines and 2 drying machines that is free to use
That helped me a lot to wash my sweaty clothes.
4. Price is cheap.
5. Owner is a old couple but very nice to introduce their property as much as they can in Japanese.
6.Quiet
Set in Nachikatsuura, 6 km from Fudarakusanji Temple, Kyukamura Nanki-Katsuura offers accommodation with a terrace, free private parking and a restaurant.

one of the highlight of our staying in Japan! The entire cottage at our disposal, amazing view of mountains, and the see on the horizon...birds singing, calmness and super friendly host. We will come back for sure!

Katsuura is very scenic with beautiful bays, and a backdrop of mountains and small towns. Kii Katsuura is renowed for tuna fishing and so the freshest tuna sushimi can be found everywhere. Accommodation places are not far from the train station and local bus transport is available. While there are beaches as well as opportunity for recreational walking, we didn't have time to explore these options.

Only had half a day & 1 night but wish I had more.
Only had half a day & 1 night but wish I had more. Convenient JR station with excellent help and support from train staff & information centre. With the fish market there it was a hotspot for locals enjoying fresh fish and sushi. Few other restaurants to choose from for more variety. Great spot for sightseeing if ocean views are your thing. The next suburb approx 5-10min away even has a shopping complex including cinema and western fast food (if you’re so inclined). Seemed like a good base to explore southern Wakayama and it’s not full of western tourists (yes I am aware of the irony leaving this review being a western tourist 😂)

Near the Kumano national park, a seaside town known for tuna and onsens.
Local fish market near the harbour has fresh tuna sushi/sashimi. The big cave onsen inside hotel Urashima is a must visit, doesn't have to stay overnight, can visit via a day pass.
Kumano Nachi Taisha shrine (part of Kumano Kodo hiking route) and waterfall is nearby. There are buses between Katsuura and Nachi. The visit takes around half a day.

Amazing tuna sushi from fish caught the same day!!
Amazing tuna sushi from fish caught the same day!!
Nachi no Ogi Matsuri (Nachi Fire Festival) was really impressive and the mountain surrounding it is beautiful with giant trees and Japan's largest waterfall!
Really friendly people and easy to get around too!
The lady in the tourist information booth was really nice and they even have special local anime mascot goods available there so check that out too!
Overall this little fishing town is fun to explore with lots of local charm, great cultural experiences, and beautiful nature to admire. I definitely recommend visiting for a festival and checking out the daily tuna auctions in the morning. Eat maguro everything and be happy!

Kii-Katsuura is an attractive fishing village, with many interesting and relatively inexpensive restaurants specializing in tuna dishes, mostly raw. It is the gateway to a number of the most important Kumano Kodo sights such as the Nachi Taisha grand shrine, and the Nach no Taki waterfall, the highest in Japan.

A charismatic little fishing port, with a clean and interesting functioning fishing harbour. The morning's fish market auction is worth seeing.
Plenty of good Tuna-specialist restaurants.
An ideal place to spend the night after finishing the Kumano Kodo, and then catch a train the next day.
I was running late at check-out and was given 30 extra minutes, which was very generous of the host. A free bicycle was also available, which was very convenient. The house has plenty of space and a full, well-equipped kitchen. The neighborhood is very quiet, about 2km away from Kii-Katsuura Station. The taxi ride from Kii-Katsuura Station to the house on the day of my arrival was ¥1,120.
Great views of the beach and surfers. 2 minutes from kii-temma station.
The bedrooms are smallish, but have everything you need. And the beds are super comfy with very nice duvets & plump pillows. The bedroom window that is the width of the room and shows off the stretch of coast, is lovely……along with a tiny balcony.
The breakfast is also great quality- tuna sashimi for breaky!!
The onsen in the cave overlooking the sea was a fantastic experience; the food was good; there were so many things to keep everyone entertained; the massage was very relaxing; the staff were very friendly and prompt; the boat ride to the hotel also added to the uniqueness of the experience. Would recommend it to everyone.
Very exclusive and beautiful hotel
:the outdoor onsen on the sea is a must see
Service top notch , we have been assisted by the staff at every level , especially Ms Kougo who tried her best to make our stay the most enjoyable possible.
The food was excellent
+ complimentary drinks and snacks
Wonderful views
Great last night during the kumano kodo. This hotel is located right next to the train/bus station, which made it very convenient to arrive/leave. The rooms are comfortable and the shared onsen and bathroom facilities were very clean. The dinner was fantastic, highly recommend staying here just for that!
The hotel is beautifully sited on an island and we had a very fine view from our room. We used and enjoyed the onsen, particularly the outdoor public bath. The food, of course, was excellent and the service and attention to detail outstanding.
The hotel property, views, and Onsen are magnificent. Both dinner and breakfast were exceptional and there was a huge variety in fresh, well made food. We had a wonderful time walking around in the evening.
It's definitely the most beautyful onsen I've seen so far. Very nice location, hotel and staff.
Massage seat in the room was great!
My girlfriend could join the onsen even though she was tattoed.
The view from the balcony, amazing! They also offer a free shuttle to go to the hotel in the afternoon and go to the city in the morning. The room was very nice, Japanese style.
Good location with sea view. Walking distance to Kii Temma train station. Very peaceful surrounding and town. Room was spacious and clean. Very friendly and helpful hotel staff.
Best place you can rent to see the area, specially if you prefer apartments to hotels. The staff is very professional and kind, you cannot go wrong renting this place.
The cave onsen was special (but the smell need some getting used to)
Lawson store in the hotel was very convenient.
Good view from various locations of the hotel.
