Bun Clody Manor use to be the Medical Centre of this historic town when it still was a Trading post in the late 1800 and early 1900. The interesting history of Hanover has also lead to it being one of the most haunted towns in South Africa. Some of the most known haunted building in town is Schreiner House (Home of the iconic Olive Schreiner), Hanover Museum and The Beautiful Dutch Reformed Church building, just to name a few. A stay at Bun Clody Manor is to discover a whole new meaning to hospitality. We are conveniently situated in the crossroads town of Hanover, halfway between Johannesburg and Cape Town, halfway between Port Elizabeth and Upington, and halfway between Durban and Cape Town. We are also excited to announce that we have opened our Coffee Shop/Restaurant at our establishment where guests can order breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hanover is a small town and is often described as the town in the middle of South Africa. The town lies halfway between most major cities of South Africa i.e. halfway between Johannesburg and Cape Town; between Cape Town and Durban and between Upington and Port Elizabeth. Before the arrival of cars, all roads led to Hanover and virtually all travelers passed through this little town. Nestled in the southeastern section of the Northern Cape known as the Great Karoo, Hanover is an ideal stopover for travelers driving to and from Johannesburg and the Western Cape. The town, in its heyday, was home to the wealthy and eccentric and it still has remnants of the early 1900’s architecture. The well-known Author, Olive Schreider who championed women’s rights lived here between 1900 and 1907 and her typical Karoo Cottage is now a National Monument. Hanover is a quiet and peaceful town, but it is an interesting little town that will be worth the overnight stop. There are a few outdoor activities and Nature Reserves in the area for anyone who would like to spend a little more time in the beauty of the Karoo.
