Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe bed frame had ornamental corners which stuck outward and cracked shins! A couple of cushions placed at the corners solved the problem.
The breakfasts were excellent. The variety leaves no-one disappointed. The price at £15 was excellent value. The hotels proximity to the Beamish Museum Park is the best in the area.

United KingdomEvening meal in the Stables was very disappointing. Bed was too small and had a footboard (I'm 6ft1 and couldn't fit in it). The room was uncomfortably hot.
Staff were all lovely, it's a beautiful building and the wedding I attended was fabulous. Breakfast was very nice, room was clean and had a nice view from it.

United KingdomRoom advertised with garden view, but when we arrived it was a small room with a view of the fire escape/roof, which wasn't great for child with claustrophobia. We spoke to the incredibly kind and helpful receptionist who explained that this was a reoccurring issue with Booking.com bookings - apparently rooms are advertised as having a garden view when they don't. This is obviously something that Best Western have to sort out directly (and soon) with Booking.com, but on explaining our issue the receptionist kindly changed our room so we could indeed have a garden view. The room we had was ample, with an antique bed and wardrobe - however, the bureau had peeling wood which hadn't been polished/repaired, and which snagged the material on an item of clothing. It would be a quick fix to sand. Windows were beautiful original sash, but the pulley/weight system wasn't working properly, so risky for little fingers and hard to control fresh air flow. Lift wasn't working when we got back from restaurant in the evening, so had to use stairs - no problem usually, but as a disabled person with fluctuating physical capacity, this presented an additional challenge. TV was small, and far from bed with limited services (terrestrial) - minor detail, but not in line with other mid/higher range hotels. All in all it's a beautiful building with great staff, comfortable beds and a nice restaurant, good food etc... but it would benefit from some updating and maintenance.
Great location; kind, helpful and friendly hotel staff. Good dining facilities, beautiful breakfast & dinner. Attentive wait staff. Nice grounds to walk around. Peaceful.

United KingdomThere is no mobile reception what so ever, and when I asked at reception if they had Wi-Fi I was told to go on their website and logon as a guest, but this was not possible. There was no information in the room how to do this. And keys all the rooms still have brass keys with huge key rings that you have to carry around
The meals in the restaurant were great, and very good value. Grounds of the hotel are stunning, but parts of the hotel are a bit tired.

United Arab EmiratesThe elevator door closes with a big bang ; could be rectified. The exhaust fan in the toilet made a lot of noise (rather eerie & disturbing) .
Big and comfortable room with a decent bathroom. Garden view from window. Ample space in room with a cupboard and a writing table. Quiet at night. Good breakfast options. Helpful staff. Grand 12th century manor well maintained and equipped with all modern facilities. Well manicured lawns too.

United KingdomOnly got lost once trying to find room. It's an unusual layout. Would have liked to spend time in the grande entrance lounge, lazing with a book, drink, and log fire. However, each day it was busy with a wedding. I do appreciate this would be a fabulous venue for such an event.
The location was stunning, and I would love to return in the summer to see the garden in colour. This would add to the grandness of the setting. Inside the adaption to a hotel was tasteful and sensitive, the rooms had the height and elegance of a grand hotel. The windows seat in our room added to its charm. Initially, the access to the restaurant was unusual, crossing the courtyard, but soon realised this was a necessity for the stables and hall to be kept true to their architectural original plan.

United KingdomThe lift door on the first floor could be difficult to open when in the lift, and as we normally travel with our scottie dog,the hotel becoming dog friendly would mean we could come again.

United KingdomProblems with the wardrobe door which the hotel were aware of, but we were still allocated the room. Doors were removed on the following day after more problems. Bar ran out of bitter early on Wednesday evening with no alternative to offer. Requests for condiments had to be repeated and items not required with the meal were still served.
